In the video, 1A Auto shows how to remove and replace a faulty fuel pressure regulator. The video is applicable to the 1996 GMC Sierra K1500.

I literally just finished doing this job 20 minutes ago then I came across your post here and hit the floor laughing. Your so right this job was a ball buster. 95 degrees heat too I'm completely beat down thanks for the laugh.
Speaking of heat, one of the worst jobs I took on was changing heads on a neighbors Chevy van. 100,000 miles all boxed in and running maximum temperature made every bolt in the intake manifold like an old exhaust manifold bolt. Plus totally baked grease and sludge filled all the pockets around the bolt heads making it impossible to put socket on until you chiseled it out with a chisel.
I spent a whole day just trying to get the intake bolts all out. On of his friends who was a diesel mechanic came by and said he would have had that done in 20 minutes, I handed the hammer and chisel to him and said " here you go ".
I couldn't imagine one of these in that van. Everything would be breaking like it were made of glass.
Finally someone actually taking the time to show how to remove the fuel pressure regulator and how to put it back on .

How does that fuel regulator plug into vacuum?
I was wanting to replace just the regulator but once I got to it, I saw that I needed my fuel injector assembly also, I replaced it, came with the regulator so I did the whole thing. Thank you, I did everything the way you said, it all worked out great.

...I clicked on your link below, I hit the 3 drop-downs, 1997, Chevrolet, Suburban K1500, typed in injector manifold. No results, I watched the video, upon removing the part, he called it an injection manifold, typed that in, that gave me the option to click on 'injection manifold' and 2 other options, I clicked on that, that brought up exhaust manifolds. Does 1AAuto have this part, the regulator, and gasket?

Excellent video… I’m not much of a mechanic, but this went much easier than I thought… Unfortunately, the fuel pressure regulator was not my problem after all of this I still had very low pressure until I found an open ground between my firewall and my frame …soon as that was replaced my pressure went up and my truck started

After 2 whole years of my truck hesitating i finally got it! I was able due to without disconnecting the rear fuel lines. Truck starts like it's brand new!
If you are having trouble starting your truck after installing this, put a bit of oil on the o rings and really try and create a good seal. It is harder than it looks to put back in place. Twist and push. Also, be careful with the small o ring. I dropped mine in the fuel rail and it was a pain to get out.

Some of the chevy trucks of this same time frame have it on the side of the motor, within easy reach , go figure. Couldn't get that lucky myself.
The real question is.
What else should we replace while we are in there?
I didn't read all the comments, so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but if you are doing this job on a V-6 engine- the forward throttle body bolts hold down the manifold too. You need to remove them before trying to remove the manifold.

This video is for 1996 to 1998 chevy pickups with the vortec. 1988 to 1995 tbi engines have the fuel pressure regulator actually inside the tbi unit itself. Since the vortec works off a spider style injector system that leads to a set of fuel rails while the tbi only has two injectors that are actually in the throttle body the regulator cannot be past the injectors. Please start making these distinctions between these trucks, body styles are the same, but interior(yes referring to your radio installation video) and fuel and ignition systems are completely different.

This video took all intimidation out of this job. My engine was the 4.3 V6 but basically the very same setup minus 2 cylinders. I also replaced the spider injector assembly while I was in there. I left the old spider assembly on our porch and my wife killed it with a broom. JK. Lol.

May I ask i have a 1996 chevy suburban 5.7 k 1500. Starts and runs like new unless its summer time. Turn it off to run in the store and come out and it won't start until the next morning,fires right up then! The fuel pressure is perfect and it has a new distributor,plugs,wires,coolent temp sensor none of wich fixed this issue. NO check engine lights on! In the winter months this problem goes away. Thanks for the advice!?👍👍

For what he replaced he didn't need to take off half of the item he removed. I'm not sure if this was a music video or the long way to replace the fuel regulator but I will hire his ass in a second to fix anything that I drive because this brother is detailed lol

Is it normal for the o-ring around the fuel-injector box on the inside of the manifold to be all stretched out? It's stretched like an inch and too loose to reuse.
What size o-ring do I need?

Would this cause losing prime issues? Fuel pump and in line filters have been changed. Occasionally won’t start.

Doing mine again, still has a hard start even with an ACDELCO.
I'm going to try the Professional Delco regulator and hopefully it does the job.
Did the ACDelco solve it?
Update, installed the Professional ACDelco and it fixed the problem. Do not buy the standard ACDelco or you will have to redo it again

What kind of inspection would you do on the fuel injection manifold to insure it doesn't need replacing?
What was your experience on that? That's where I'm at, I am being a bit frugal and didn't feel like spending 300 on the whole assembly and only purchased the regulator for fifty. I want to do this tomorrow. I've heard that some of the plastics can become brittle and break. I'll guess I find out the hard way. Worst case scenario, I'll have to wait 2 days before I get the whole assembly from Amazon if things start falling apart, hope not though. I'll try to let it soak in some solvent to clean it up before putting it back.
what does a faulty fuel pressure regulator cause?
If you do this, don't reuse that old black spider injector or you'll be back in it replacing it soon anyway. Get the green colored MPFI injectors, they fit right in and are vastly more reliable
Would a fuel pressure regulator cause your truck to loose power if you try to step on it or going up hills like if it were struggling?

Works on vacuum inside the intake. No line needed on it. Some of them had a short little rubber hose but it's not needed.
Can you/is it recommended to adjust the regulator or can it be tuned?
I am decent mechanic in that I'm always learning planning to learn.. just an idea I'm a plumber on occasion .....earthquake shut off valve in a vehicle..... when vehicle senses an accident ....at the source.... at the tank.... this fuel would be shut off... possibly fuel lines even evacuated with reverse of system.... just an out-of-the-box engineering idea

I heard you can change the FPR without removing the upper plenum and a person with small enough hands can replace it by removing on throttle plate valve and putting hand in the hole to remove it. Im going to try It ! :-)

Does the fuel pressure regulator have a vacuum line connected to it? Or is it pretty much an emergency valve that when fuel hits too much pressure, it let's fuel exit out the "vacuum" port into the intake? I ask because I can't find a vacuum line or any way to regulate the fuel pressure from the pcm. Thanks

You won’t find a video either because the fuel pressure regulator is built into the throttle body, operated by vacuum. Gotta replace the entire throttle body.
Does the top of that lower intake manifold look dirty and should it be cleaned? Why didn't you label the injectors when removing? It would really suck to get those mixed up and realize it after reassembly or are they easy to put back correctly? Should the injectors be cleaned while out of the vehicle as well?
+Rob Owings Thanks for watching! You do not have to clean that portion of the manifold, but if you can clean it without getting debris everywhere it wouldn't hurt. All of those injectors are the same stock part, so it shouldn't matter if they get switched around. Again, if you want to take the time to label them it won't hurt. They do not need to be cleaned either unless you notice carbon or gunk build up. 1aauto.com
Also curious about failing to number the injectors... are they labeled already? This will be my 1st attempt at this repair. And alot of miles on it, so considering replacing the injectors and regulator at the same time, as the pressure leaks off so fast it's on 0 by the time I've turned the key off and walked 6 steps back to read the gauge
This is only for 1996-1998 vortec engines with spider injection, this is not for 1988-1995 TBI engines.

my friends hesitated to start and when it did start it idled low and cut off alot like it was starving for the right amount of fuel to run correctly
mine is losing fuel pressure, and won't start , has new fuel pump. pressure goes to 55 when cranking and drops to 0 when stop cranking.
With out of the box idea .. the driver could keep his fuel running as long as he wants to to move out of the way of the accident. But then he or she can the big red button that evacuates the system and shuts the fuel off from the tank
is this something I can do in a couple hours outside with hardly any workbench space?
Love my 95 chev PU, don't have to have to remove the four tires to replace the sparkplugs.

It kinda seems you didn't really have to remove the whole spider assembly to remove the pressure regulator you could of removed it while the lines where still connected
This on the box idea. Flame retardant container just like airbag container for example .. That automatically sprays or manually controlled in strategic areas where fire is most likely to start

I hope you answer me even though it has been 3 years. I have an issue when I’m driving my 96 suburban. It glitches or I don’t know how to explain it, English isn’t my first language. When I drive from a full stop it stutters like I’m taking my foot off the throttle, even tough I have my leg on the throttle steady.

geez.. I need to do this in my 96 Express. I think it would be easier to add an aftermarket regulator to the return line.

😮, I've got a 96 F150 and a 96 Silverado, the Ford's Fuel Pressure Regulator is So much easier and faster to replace, nothing like all this
Once I get to the control module, I'm stucked... are not three bolts holding it, in my truck are two 10mm nuts, and the bracket goes all back at the intake. I can see you removed only two bolts and piece of cake.
Isn't there a vacuum line that goes to the other end of the fuel pressure regulator. More specifically the one that is not plugged into the Spider injector and is facing downward?
For anyone wondering the same thing, the answer is no... The vacuum line on a fuel pressure regulator normally goes to a source of manifold vacuum. However, this fuel pressure regulator is inside the manifold already in vacuum.
Can this cause loud humming/whining sound coming from fuel lines?
Very possible. Normally the fuel pump will charge the line before starting then shut off. With a faulty regulator the pump can continue to run causing pressure to be returned to the tank
Yall got a wiring diagram with each label name?
Does this problem caused a code (?number) Multi misfire, act like losing power then some minutes go out, but come back on later on? (Bad Gas?) or it the start of another problem fuel injector maybe, bad fuel pump (Pump was chang out 7+ year ago?) 316,100 mile on it.
Mine has difficulty starting - till I break out the starting fluid. Still not 100% sure if it's the pump, regulator or injectors leaking down.

What is the white wire on top of the injector connector? Mine has one but it is not connected to anything.
It is just a retaining clip for the harness
Did anyone else notice that they didn't actually replace with new? If im going through all this work on my 98, I'll be sure to pay for the $560.00 kit that replaces all the sensitive components that could fail from any dirt or particulates that enter. I just replaced my engine so take my word for what it's worth and do the job right folks

Your making the job way harder bud! All You have to do is take upper intake manifold off and you don’t need to take the hole complete injector assy off at all you need is unclip fuel regulator ! I can see the fuel regulator clean as day light work smart not hard !

Wow, he did it in 23 minutes! Be sure to change the manifold gasket. If you have a vacuum leak after all that, you will want to send your truck off a cliff.

ground strap from back of engine block ( and firewall ) down thru a tube to the passenger side frame ....would be great to see an alternate attachment site for this ground strap because where it attaches back of motor is a real problem to get to especially after you've had couple back surgeries ....still haven't got it loose , can't get at it on the block --no room ....this caused my truck ( 98 gmc k1500 5.7 ) to die going 55 mph ...it would crank but no fuel
Drill a hole through the firewall.
I just did all this work and still 60psi then when the pump stops before ignition psi drops suddenly to 10psi.
It's not that easy with new orings and stuff it's a bit of a struggle to get the clip on, especially if you have the upgraded spider and some of the injectors are stuck so you can't take the spider out and work on it on a bench.
How fo you test it?
What about a 2004 where the fuel pressure regulator is in the fuel tank.
And is this the same as a 7.4 454?
