Hard physical labor for long hours, over many years. My grandfather was born in the mid 1880’s, on a small farm. He started milking cows by hand twice a day, at the age of five. He milked 5-10 cows per day for the next seventy years. That man had hands and arms like Popeye. At that time in history, everything on a farm at that time required strong hands, arms, abs, and backs.
Im a blacksmith by training and fabricator by work. I also have competed in grip strength and still training it now.. for sure all of those build hands, But nothing compares to direct gripwork. Heavy grippers, fat bars, vertical bars, bending nails and pinch. What i would add is a small rubber ball, size of a golf ball and squeeze it between your thumb and index finger. Great video bro! Keep it up

You ever do the rice bucket? Curious your thoughts, I started using it this week after seeing some convincing TH-cam videos and my forearms and hands have been getting a crazy pump from it
That's true. You would nearly know by looking at someone's hands what they work at. Most Construction and Farming lads have big hands. I worked with an old stone Mason and christ his hands were huge. No need for the lump hammer ( almost ) 😂😂😂
You can gain some size, and obviously get stronger grip. But the size of the hand is similar to the wrist.. the size and thickness depends on genetics.
The human body can and will adapt to literally anything. If you do the right shit, your hands and forearms will definitely grow and yes even bone composition/density can change along the way
I've been doing grip work for several years. My forearms have gotten bigger but I dont think my hands have. I have a video of my dad from when he was 16 and he had big hands even back then, he was naturally big boned.
@@nicholasstarcher3460 Your hands cannot physically grow larger, but your fingers can become thicker. Most grip work doesn't directly target the finger tendons in the same that rock climbing does.
I would like to point out that hitting objects does not make your bones stronger. Wolff law mentiones that you remodel throught stress wich is correct but the only thing proven to increase bone density is actually strenght training, this is because the muscles contract to generate force and when they contract it pulls the tendons wich conect muscles and tendons and this causes bone growth and can only continue to grow stronger muscles through progressive overload wich doesn't translate into hitting things, even if you try to hit harder, your muscles will only contract as hard as your grip strength allows. Microfractures also don't heal stronger, to summarize there are cells in your body that breakdown bone tissue and build it back called osteoclast and osteoblast, if you give yourself microfractures the osteoblast have to fix that on top of the normal damage produced by osteoclast and won't be able to keep up. The great news here is that literally everything else you are doing does increase bone density, so regardless if you do the brick slapping or not you will end with very strong bones. Last note in the clip you used the chinese guy had a very big hand and some might point out that thais do a lot of shin conditioning. When you hit hard things you can create internal injuries wich as they heal can develop scar tissue wich makes the area feel bigger and stronger but is only a small layer of protection on the iniured area and wil, dissapear once it heals, but if you keep it up for long enough you can sustain the internal scar tissue wich results in the big deformed hand and the hand will be hard but you basically crippled your hand for a portion of the benefits of normal strenght training. As for thais, strenght training, running and plyometrics are proven to increase bone density and combat sport athletes tend to do a lot of that. Btw a plyometric exercise from traditional kung fu that is genuinely great for grip strength is grabbing a bag of sand, toss it and catch it, they also do gripping jars wich is genuinely great for finger strength.
Nah. That's rubbish mate. I have hit a bag full of ball bearings for 10 years and my bones are 30 times stronger. I can use my hands to hammer wooden posts into position like a sledgehammer with no damage
Thorough video man. Would you mind sharing an Amazon link to a basic hand gripper that you would use? Like the one you used in the beginning of the video
Ive heard that too, and when it comes to performance based training and tasks, manual labor doesnt touch deadlifts, pullups, running, rucking, or squatting. And all the old men who say what youre saying, are broke bodies and have underdeveloped muscles and compound physical problems. They also did manual labor and moved a ton of a weight daily. But the ol boys who did manual labor and lifted weights, still going strong.

Great video, I just wanted to share an idea to train the "tough skin" honorable mention you said at the end of the video: I found a really shitty off-brand gripper, like a knock-off of Captains of Crush. The metal knurling felt like goddamn shards of glass. Way more rough than normal knurling on a barbell or other grippers. I thought this was just a moment of "damn, these have terrible quality," but I was wrong. Using these daily made my entire palm feel like leather. Just hurt like hell for the first week or so. Just an idea!
Extensor work like rubberband around your finger tips definitely hits the tendons, which also thicken, but also especially the pinky finger muscle, as it’s so short it’s already mostly straight and extended, where the other fingers are opening to straighten, so it’s working almost entirely the abductor.
@@KevinPalkoArmwrestling got on Amazon recently a big pack of Alliance 2.5”x1/2” bands, I use after towel hangs mostly. They sell assorted widths cheap which is nice going to use on spring clamps too.
The direct and indirect impact theory is very easy to debunk and discard. Boxers have the highest rate of both direct and indirect impact and their hands are all very small and frale and fragile. Don't nobody go mentioning superheavyweight boxers. The theory would work on all the tiny guys if it was true. 90% of boxing is tiny guys under 175lbs
@@KevinPalkoArmwrestling pros use wraps only and have over 950lbs per square inch of punching power. I think that'll do. Their heavy bags have almost no give. Now time to smoke a joint and shoot some test suspension into my thumb
Theoretically speaking their elbows and wrists should be massive and are not. My neighbor has been a carpenter for 40 years and his hands are tiny. Genetics are number 1. Hamd specific training is number 2 and growth hormones is number 3. Nuff said
I spent my teens chopping wood and woodworking from scratch as a silly little hobby. I'm in my twenties now and my hands are still very solid despite me being rather skinny.
@@KevinPalkoArmwrestling I work a pretty hard blue collar job and have for a long time. I’ve often wondered why some of the other guys have thicker hands. Hey kevin, how often do you think it s safe to train the thumb? Is once every 2 days doable? I feel like it recovers fast but i dont have that much experience yet
I somewhere read that using lighter grippers and more repetition is going to increase the size of the tendons and ligaments. As the fingers are made of bones and tendons this kind of training should make your fingers thicker. Whats your opinion on that and or do you have other advices for making also your fingers thicker?
I think that pinch machine can make the fingers thicker. Just using regular grippers I don’t think will make them thicker. Hangboard training can make them thicker
Buen video. Entrenar los dedos específicamente es la mejor manera de fortalecer toda la mano en general, incluso antebrazo. Just commenting on the nay sayers opinion that it’s genetics only that will produce hands like yours. Well I call bullshit to that. Why? I have been a construction general contractor and owner for 35 years. If you saw the hands on my electricians, stucco applicators, steel fabricators, brick and masonry contractors, and many more who use their hands and extensively isolate those muscles , you will see hands like Kevin’s. Also being a life long body builder I know something about muscle isolation. Your technique of how to isolate the 3 palm muscles is pure science and I would never have figured it out myself. Again, thank you big time. Armed with what I now know ( I am almost 74 years old ) I will deprive the Doctors of carpal tunnel operation and fix the problem at its root . I can Nowe fix it myself.
I will start to smash my hands on a bag filled with peas / rice / gravel for a few months and report back, my hands are insanely small and I don't like it.
When I use to do construction for 8 yrs using wrenches screw drivers, twisting pipes and bending copper wire also to add I’d go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week my hands got big
Its funny. Since I turned 18 and started working jobs and interacting with the real world, I became observant and would look at a person's hands, especially their palms if visible, to see if they're calloused and/or thickly developed. You ever do the rice bucket? Curious your thoughts, I started using it this week after seeing some convincing TH-cam videos and my forearms and hands have been getting a crazy pump from it

Yes sir
awesome man thank you for sharing that really works!!!! it specifically targets those hand muscles!...
Absolutely
I can confirm construction is a really good method for thicker hands, even using a driller and impact gun makes your thumbs thicker
Absolutely
That's true. You would nearly know by looking at someone's hands what they work at. Most Construction and Farming lads have big hands. I worked with an old stone Mason and christ his hands were huge. No need for the lump hammer ( almost ) 😂😂😂
You can gain some size, and obviously get stronger grip. But the size of the hand is similar to the wrist.. the size and thickness depends on genetics.
Wrong. The tendons in your fingers can become thicker. That's why rock climbers have thick hands
Thats why most carpenters have freakish thick hands with all that constant hammering for hours and hours. 5-7 days a week for years and years.
@@worldofwarcraftvince yep, exactly. A dude I knew who framed houses had massive forearms
A very well made video. I really enjoyed the knowledgeable insights here and how they come out with real results.

How to destroy all the hands at church on Sunday morning 😂
Man science is not a proven theory its just an ongoing process. You dont have to take up a pitch fork to deny people what they're working for.
That’s bad sport science or poor application of it.
It's one of the ways to make them stronger. But think about Muay Thai fighters - how do they build their dense bones...
Man I used to have fat ass fingers and hand muscles and back then I didn’t like that who knew now I would be trying to get that back
I need this. Especially for my hands. Wear and tear over time it’s starting to hurt

I work for a living. I move 20-30,000 pounds a day. Have for 25 years. Get paid to do it too. No need for a gym or exercise equipment.
Lucky man
Ive heard that too, and when it comes to performance based training and tasks, manual labor doesnt touch deadlifts, pullups, running, rucking, or squatting. And all the old men who say what youre saying, are broke bodies and have underdeveloped muscles and compound physical problems. They also did manual labor and moved a ton of a weight daily. But the ol boys who did manual labor and lifted weights, still going strong.
@@channeellll7623 I eat healthy. No fast food. No alcohol. No smoking or drinking whatsoever. I'm 5'9 186 lbs. 47 years old, and going strong. I try to hit the gym when I can, and I'll take your advice and hit the gym harder and more often without injuring myself. Thanks
Great video, I just wanted to share an idea to train the "tough skin" honorable mention you said at the end of the video:
I found a really shitty off-brand gripper, like a knock-off of Captains of Crush.
Hmm that’s interesting, but definitely sounds like your hands adapted to it
I have cheap Chinese grippers too and their rough too
Extensor work like rubberband around your finger tips definitely hits the tendons, which also thicken, but also especially the pinky finger muscle, as it’s so short it’s already mostly straight and extended, where the other fingers are opening to straighten, so it’s working almost entirely the abductor.
I love doing rubber bands like that
@@KevinPalkoArmwrestling got on Amazon recently a big pack of Alliance 2.5”x1/2” bands, I use after towel hangs mostly. They sell assorted widths cheap which is nice going to use on spring clamps too.
Fist of fury, chocking the chicken technique 🐔🤛.
😉
Awesome Thank you for knowledge 💪✊❤
The direct and indirect impact theory is very easy to debunk and discard. Boxers have the highest rate of both direct and indirect impact and their hands are all very small and frale and fragile. Don't nobody go mentioning superheavyweight boxers. The theory would work on all the tiny guys if it was true. 90% of boxing is tiny guys under 175lbs
Punching a bag with gloves on probably just ain’t cutting it.
Nuff said
@@Savagetripper thabks for the input
Their bone density is unreal. Thanks man!
I spent my teens chopping wood and woodworking from scratch as a silly little hobby. I'm in my twenties now and my hands are still very solid despite me being rather skinny.
I chopped wood a lot during high school and still do it time to time. Love it!
Is there a rep and set range for the grip trainer? Or is it until failure?
To failure is a good option
Very interesting video. I’ve never considered how many different ways you can work your hands out
For sure. Thousands of ways, just a matter of how dumb you wanna look doing some of them haha
@@KevinPalkoArmwrestling I work a pretty hard blue collar job and have for a long time. I’ve often wondered why some of the other guys have thicker hands. Genetics must have something to do with it I guess? Hand muscles are sore lots of times too after extra difficult shifts. I think I’ll try some of the variations you showed for how to use a hand gripper
@@davidianson1182 genetics always play a factor, but I’ve been around construction too and some guys just have some absolute bear paws

Good training for Iron palm my dear friend .
Yes. I’ve actually never done iron palm personally. I know there is a correct way to do it to avoid injury
Buen video.
Saludos!
some comments on here are really ignorant, this is a very interesting topic to me and to a niche of people lol, i was training only the thumb pad and the muscle on top of the thumb with a coc 1 doing static holds and these tips were really helpful, cheers dude
Appreciate the kind words brother
Impressive some ways and forms i havent though about before

Its funny. Since I turned 18 and started working jobs and interacting with the real world, I became observant and would look at a person's hands, especially their palms if visible, to see if they're calloused and/or thickly developed. I've always been fascinated with strong men who wore these badges of honor and I know that they are usually not to be messed with.
