    I've been doing one set to failure of DB wrist curls after every single workout for 12+ years now and my forearms easily became my strongest bodypart, by far. It literally takes less than 60 seconds. Zero added fatigue. I rotate underhand, overhand, and 'hammer' curl type angle and always aim to get one more rep than last time. Slow and controlled, maximum contraction. My secret sauce: open up the palm and extend the fingers during underhand curls for maximum stretch. I love this.

    Long time viewer Alex, I have terrible forearms despite rock climbing and having a respectable deadlift. It's more common than you'd think because our leverages bias us to deadlift more and climb better bc having a longer reach and thus longer forearms gives you an advantage in both. Good to look at other approaches like yours! Love your content bro

    • @AlexLeonidas
      @AlexLeonidas  ปีที่แล้ว +106

      I guess you just have to keep forcing harder positions. If not via reach, it must be through thicker implements. Notice how I didn't mention deadlifts in this video. Many elite pullers have sticks for forearms.

    Outer extremities (think i spelled that right) are absolutely very underestimated, big forearms will make you look bigger than having big biceps, you'll never look like you have small legs if your calves are big, you can be small and have a thick neck which makes you look bigger and more powerful as a whole, you can be skinny, but if you have big shoulders you still will look like you have a big and aesthetic physique, in my opinion, forearms, calves, neck and shoulders are arguably the most important parts in a physique, the little gains in those outer extremities go a far longer way than the bigger muscles of the body.

    Been waiting for this video for so long!
    I'm just entering my intermediate stage as a new lifter, and damn I could tell that my forearms were a TRUE limiting factor.
    Doing 70kgs RDL's for reps became hard on my forearms rather than my hamstrings! Also, doing 140kg DL became hard because the bar would slip out of my hands even though I had the power in my glutes and hamstrings to carry that weight up!
    Right now I'm adding 2-3 forearms isolation exercises on each of my workouts! Its important to say that these recover VERY VERY fast and therefore it's completely ok to destroy them every day (just like any arm muscle)
    I would also add that in my opinion, if you're not ADVANCED, and by advanced I mean super strong you should definitely drop the straps and the belt and focus on strengthening your forearms and core.

    • @cronikvialo5463
      @cronikvialo5463 ปีที่แล้ว

      Without enough strength for a pull up you won’t be able to pull yourself up at 240 lb. I’m 130lb and I can do about 20 pullups and I rarely train for them. If you start doing negatives, And maybe rows with enough weight for 4 ish reps you’ll be able to do pull-ups in no time. If I were to put on a 105 lb belt on I don’t think I’d be able to do anywhere near 20 or maybe not even one. A person who is 300lb and is able to do pull-ups are very impressive and the people with the bigger backs but are lean incorporate pull-ups with around 300 lb in combination with their body weight. I would have to do a 165lb weighted pull up while you’d have to do a 60lb weighted pull up. Just time, practice and progression

      @@MF_PHANTOM Appreciate your insight. I'm SLOWLY getting there. By slowly, I couldn't even just hang on the bar for more than 1-2 seconds. I can now at least hang for 15-20 seconds. Now I know just hanging there is VERY different from actually doing a pull-up... but to me, it's progress.

    I'm 30, spend the last 3.5 years getting in shape (losing 30 kg first year, I'm at 89 kg now, 189 cm). I spent the past 1 year focusing on calisthenics + weighted. I fell in love chins and pullups the easier it got over time. My god I've gained so much what feels like for free, especially forearms.

    Hey Alex. I've been trying behind the neck OHP for the last few weeks. I've seen the fearmongering about them being awful for you. Sure, my lifts are about 15% weaker than normal OHP, but my shoulders feel fantastic and BTN pressing feels really difficult to cheat. The medial delt pumps are gnarly. I don't think I've ever seen you mention behind the neck movements before.

    I think the fatgrip pullups + rope pullups are a great idea. With the overhand/neutral (on the rope, sort of) grip, you automatically use a lot of the brachioradialis, and with the fat grip, needing to squeeze, you train the 'other side', the flexor radialis. This means you train the two biggest forearm muscles, with 1 exercise. Quite smart indeed, never thought of it that way.

    Great form and fluid like motion. No rush, correct lock out and a smooth rep. Going slow like that and holding the rep helps bust into alot of muscles we can't usually get into with certain exercises. 5 correct reps can bring way better results rather than hammering out a quick set of 10 where speed is sought after.

    Hey man. Great content. I do pullups for the last few years involving some angled thick bars. They are on a swing set, and i am tall enough to just grab them. They are about 3.5 - 4 in wide and i have been doing them on and off for nearly 4 years. The angle is super absurd, going up to a point and angling out nearly 70-75 degrees from the central point up top, with the top being nearly 10 feet from the ground. I am 6'4 and i have to say it gave me insane grip strength. I put on 10lbs and it become increasingly difficult to hold...but...at one point i did pull ups on 2 inch thick chains and held myself at the top for nearly 30 seconds, no gloves. It was because of the thick bar, angled pullups. You are giving some insanely good adivice and people need to listen !

    This video is a blessing that came at perfect timing! I will start training forearms for the 1st time in my life, as they limit all exercises that depend on grip strength. They are such a weak link that I recently even got tendinopathy in 2 wrist tendons due to regular stress and them being so weak that they can't handle it properly. I need to change this... once I heal and finish physiotherapy I'll be doing some direct forearm work to eradicate this weakness once and for all (maybe I'll be like you and turn my weakness into a strong point, that would be so cool)
