    Thanks for the great video and clear description. My Aurora R7 was very loud so I upgraded to BIOS Version 1.0.26 (1/19/2022) hoping it would make a change. The front fan then started giving a hardware error on boot up. So, I tried upgrading all fans using Noctua NF-A8 PWM for CPU and Noctua NF-12 Redux for front and top fans as recommended. The new top fan and CPU caused new hardware errors, so I had to put the Dell fans back in. The Noctua NF-12 Redux I used for the front fan worked great and got rid of my initial hardware error. What a fickle machine this is :)

    Hello, I got 2 noctua nf p12 redux 1700 Pwm as the front and top fan replacements on my aurora r7 i7 8700 gtx 1070 ti and I’m still getting a support error code for the top fan, even though it is 1700 rpm

  • @StargazerMan
    @StargazerMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for this. I swapped out the front fan with the recommended Noctua NF-P12 redux 1700 and it has already made a huge improvement. I've another on the way to replace the top and also the CPU fan with the Noctua NF-A8 PWM. While I'm at it, I'm gonna put some new thermal paste on the processer to help. (I'm looking up which paste to use so anyone got any suggestions please let me know!)
    One thing which is my fault, I've not been keeping the inside of the case clean. The GPU fan and outlet was caked in dust as was the vent grilles. This case is tight so I guess extra housework is needed to keep it in shape.

      Unfortunatley not really, but something that worked is using the splitter that came with the cpu fan (I think) and running both fans from the one header which works, but the computer won't boot unless both headers have fans connected so I just connected the stock fan to the buggy header and had that fan just hanging out of my case@@Bradwinner99

  • @lalljp
    @lalljp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The CPU needs a high RPM fan. A Noctua or similar one reduces your max speed so if you have a higher wattage CPU it can overheat. I replaced mine with a Delta low profile one, it runs cooler than the stock fan and at lower RPM because it can grab air easier because it has 2cm instead of 1cm to the PSU.

    Hi Harry! I LOVE your videos & I think you are quite a computer aficionado😉 Since you are so knowledgeable, I trust your judgement & I would like your opinion...
    I just installed a new Corsair RM 850x psu because I didn't feel that my GTX 1080 was performing at capacity. While playing certain games & while using my Oculus, I was being throttled by heat & what I felt was...lack of power. Because of the heat issue, the fans were running, running & running some more & IT WAS LOUD! Originally I was only going to replace the cpu fan/cooler so I purchased a Thermalright MACHO Rev. C but it was a little too tight for my liking & the screws were too big for the mb. I did NOT want to drill the system board so the backplate would fit, so I needed something more low-profile. Then I saw your video & it was VERY helpful, so I ordered 2 Noctua NF-P12 redux-1700 as replacements for both outtake fans just as you've done in this video.
    Now that I've finished my biography, my question is this: Since upgrading from a 460w ps to an 850w ps, should I just replace all 3 fans OR replace the cpu fan/cooler with the Noctua NH-L9i & only the 2 outtake fans? I would LOVE your opinion!! PLEASE?

    • @willym879
      @willym879 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you replace the CPU heatsink you'll need to get 3 #6-32 nuts for the intel bracket. I had to do that in order to install the NH-L9i.
      I've also replaced my front fan and it's a HUGE difference in sound signature. Temps dropped about 15-20*C when I replaced the CPU heatsink/fan. I'm still doing a little more research on the top fan though. I keep getting conflicting information on what works and what doesn't. I might stick with Noctua. They are quiet.

      Found this on a reddit thread on how to disable support assist. I think these proprietary programs have unecessary restrictions but I know it's all in the effort to keep your PC safe from incompatibilities and voiding the warranty. With that said, I think if it's possible to use a better fan and bypass support assist, then it's worth the gamble. Just IMO.

    Thanks for the video..... So you ended using the Noctua NF-P12 redux 1700 for top and front(53.98 Newegg). And the Noctua NF-A8 PWM for the CPU fan(15.95 Amazon). Besides sound, any real temp differences?

I updated the latest BIOS and I am wondering if the NF-A12 will work with no boot error as the top fan. If I just want silent should I go for the H60 water cooling or just change the fans? thank you so much.

    Can you please tell me the name of the 80mm Noctua fan used for the processor?
