  • The highly acclaimed saxophonist & brother of flutist Hubert Laws, with one of his nice CDs from 1990. This guy was one of the first jazz-funk saxophonists I got into back in the late '70s, since I bought his 'Pressure Sensitive' LP way back when. Still have it, and many of his early LPs to this day. Got into both Ronnie Laws and Gato Barbieri back in the day!

Agreed, heard Friends and Strangers when I was a kid in the 70's and was hooked on jazz from that moment forward even walked around with my boom box rocking Ronnie, Lonnie Liston Smith, Roy Ayers and many others so you can imagine how the adults looked at me! Lol!

This is one of my favorite Ronnie Laws cds ever! I bought it new in 1990 and bought it again on cd a few years ago. Personal favorites are "Heart Station"; "Love This Way Again;" "Favorite Love," and the opening groove-inflected "Gotta Say Goodbye." I think that this is one of his strongest albums and, IMHO, is much overlooked. I think that Ronnie Laws, along with Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn, Wilton Felder, and Stanley Turrentine (to name a few) truly ushered in the contempo saxophone sound that would become the blueprint for the music that we enjoy today...Thanks to you, Kyle, much deserved attention is brought to it on your channel! Thanks so much for sharing your continued shining brilliance! Blessings to you and all! 😊🎈

Ronnie Laws, just like early Johnny Griffin, Cannonball Adderley, Rusty Bryant, Wilton Felder, John Coltrane, yea he got all of them in his playing.

I also had a vinyl LP of "Pressure Sensitive" for many years (from the late '70s up to the mid-'90s). As I recall, the album was one of the first produced by (former Crusaders trombonist) Wayne Henderson & it has the timeless track "Always There". While I never got his subsequent albums, I would hear "Night Breeze" and "Friends and Strangers" practically every day on the local FM jazz station DWWK-FM. Loved Bobby Lyle's keyboard playing on those classic Ronnie Laws recordings! Oh, and I would also frequently hear Ronnie Laws' vocal on pop-oriented songs like "Every Generation" & "Stay Awake" on MOR (Middle-of-the-Road) FM radio stations in the very early '80s!
