In my top 10 all time smooth jazz albums. Has a bit of a yacht rock swing also due to those Bill LaBounty covers and the closing Pages number. Ricky is a great singer / keyboardist and the overall execution here is basically flawless.
Wow!! This was one of the highlight cds of 1990, imho!! 😊 Thanks so much for posting this wonderful (and, of course, unheralded) cd, Kyle! I also bought this new in 1990 and bought it again approx 2 years ago just because I loved it so much upon first purchase -- it is indeed a classic!😊🎼🎵 Not only is Ricky Peterson (along with his brothers, Paul and Bill) a superior keyboardist/organist/composer but also is an impressive vocalist ("Take My Heart Away"; "Livin' It Up" and the ethereal "Look Who's Lonely Now")...as another poster insightfully added--Peterson's vocals remind you of pop group titan Chicago. I always thought that "Night Watch" had a fine blend and balance of stellar vocals--stirring sounds from powerhouse The Steele Family on "Put Your Faith in Me" (some ballads; one mid-tempo); and strong instrumentals: "High Rise Drifter;" the sleek, sinister groove of the title track, etc...Always appreciate the top shelf music that you share, Kyle. Blessings to you and all!
I have all Ricky's albums and this one is my favourite! I got news my grandad who raised me from toddler to adult had died 3 years after I left home when the song "living it up"was playing on my walkman. I ended up getting 2 more copies of this album on CDs. Here I am in March 2024 jamming along to the tracks on my '51 Precision bass.
Great album and a great release from Warner ! I don't suppose you have Waterfall - Piano solos by Robert W. Brown from '86 do you ? My Dad imported it to the UK in '87 and has never heard it since !
Fantastic project with a fantastic and legendary lineup! (Ford, Vinnie, Garrett, Williams, Fields, Patitucci, LaBelle and the most famous horn trio in the world! Reichenbach, Grant and Hey (Seawind))! Thanks Kyle!!
I had this album on a cassette back the day and have looking for it FOREVER!! After cassette was no more I cried for days! I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO SO MUCH! THANK FOR POSTING THIS GOD BLESS YOU!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Oooh, this is a good one. I've had this cassette on rotation for a long time. Starts off with some great riffs on "One Never Knows" and never lets up. I feel like you could write a good short story with just these song titles. Touché Ricky Peterson.
Livin it up sounds like it could have been a Chicago song:)

Unique smooth jazz album of 1990 it has been 32 years ago to listen.
Ricky's rendition of Bill Labounty "Livin' It Up" and Pages "Take My Heart Away" was very good and touch my heart very much.

I actually do have that on CD somewhere, I'll have to dig for it
Awesome, we'll have our fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Hey this is the best from him and we cannot find entirely on line.
Thanks a lot again!
THis was all over JazzFM in London in the early 90s
Had this cassette....

"High Rise Drifter" knocks the funk off my smelly socks. It would have been cool to see Ricky open or playing some keys for Prince back in the 90s.
This album is a killer !!! So much better than Souvenir !! Thanks for sharing !
Best Ricky Peterson Album ( for me ) not in Spotify.
Forget Spotify, just copy and paste this video. They only care about mindless mainstream stuff.
El solo de Piano de Ricky en NIGHT WATCH ha significado mucho para mi.
Y un imperceptible grito a 7:09

Impeccable indeed! Along with Colauita's tasty and steady drum pocket it becomes even better.
It sounds amazing! 💕🤗
