Been there, done that. Definitely gonna go there again and do it again. Thank you for the free movie tickets but I lost the stub for my girlfriend's ticket. Guess that means she's gotta leave darn it.
To think! it took 81 years for me to find and watch this great movie {April 2020}. And it was well worth it, by far. It had me glued to it, right from the beginning, right to the very end. Can't thank you enough, to whoever added this to TH-cam. Well worth watching again in the future.
Hello 👋@ Danny Gillingham.. if you dont mind my asking..hope it's not too late..Well if it took you 81 years to find this movie.. my God..How old are you?
I love these old films! Thank you so very much for posting these for us to see on TH-cam! ❤❤❤ Watching these is a great and wonderful escape from the crap on the network news channels and the insanity that is happening now-a-days! 👍👍👍I really miss these oldies! 💞💞💞💞💞💞
No I'm not a lovey dovey type movie guy. I love the gangsters and cops movies like this one. But it just so happens this movie has both, you know I can watch older movies like this over and over. [ And I can never get enough of them. ] To whom it was that put this movie up for everybody to watch thanks a lot
I wish I lived back then. Even though this is a movie, people just seemed more real back then. They spoke to each other instead of staring at their phones.
They spoke in complete sentences, proper grammer. They didn't interrupt each other. Children's bad behavior was not encouraged. Everyone knew how to write, and spell. And the clothes...😍
In 1966, when I was ten, my Dad told me that all American made films always had "Directed by..." as the last entry in the rolling credits. This is the first film that I ever recall seeing where "Directed by xxx" is smack in the middle of the credits.
There are sure alot of people in this movie that went on to become one of those character actors that you know well but just can not remember their names !!! Like the friend , Snippy, parole officer,Warren ,Jules and the partner all would come out in countless movies ! They are what make these films enjoyable .In the picnic scene I sure thought she had a swimsuit on when she took her robe OFF 😂
Lots of suspense there. It looked like the cards were all stacked against him but true love won the day. Not very realistic perhaps but it's nice to see the underdog win.
WOW! Now they SURELY don't make them like this anymore. SUPERB ending. Eventhough I could have STRANGLED Tyler at times. Superb cast. Julie was My kind of gal (smile)Now YOU all see the movie "A Bride For Henry" She stars in this.
40:30: "I might grab a train tonight and disappear, " says Sniffy Jonhson -- played by Pat Flaherty. It was the year after this film was released when he had a supporting role as one of the train conductors in Midnight Limited.
@@karenhill3970 I recognized his voice first...then went back to see the credits; sure enough, its Sgt Joe Friday's partner in Dragnet from the 1950s. Fifteen years or so after this movie was made. Hie was quite a bit thinner in this movie though...fun watching these 30s / 40s movies!
I'm not quite sure why this film was entitled "The Convicts Code", as it portrayed virtually nothing about such code!! But it was descent film.... for the 1930s.... where the last 20 minutes of plot development could have easily been more fully defined in 'suspenseful' detail to warrant an additional 20 minutes running time to "fill out" this hurried ending... IMHO :-)
At 9:47 he has on a black suit. The guy walks on the door at 10:37 and now he is in the chair in a grey suit. Did he go home to change and come back in less than one minute?
Just one question. Why does the door leading IN to the parole office have "entrance" painted on it...readable from INSIDE the office, facing the waiting room?
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Enjoyed viewing the automobiles/phones/doll house/indoor & outdoor lighting/( no TV sets )-!!!😉.. I venture to guess all the players have joined the dear dead departed club 😇-???🤔. Realistically portrayed ex cons/warden/parole officer/girl friend of that era-!!!🤗. Nice ending where all but the bad😈 guys live happily ever after-!!!😉
After 40 minute and 54 seconds, I have come to hate both Krafft and Hillyer. In thirty minutesTyler violated at least five of his parole orders and lied to his parole officer.
Those are Stupid and unrealistic rules back then and of course NOW ! Everywhere You go there is nothing but Whores , Alcohol Drugs and that is just down the street ,church ,schools and all the way to the Fucking White House !! COVFEFE !!
That is essentially The Plot, Gilda = "A man on a Mission" to uncover his unjust conviction and prove his innocence.... and to Break Every Rule if necessary in the process of achieving that goal…..!! Its pretty straight forward, just often a bit circumstantially silly in rather Classic 1930s "flimsy" style! :-)

Excellent film ! great story plot, old cars, vocabulary, acting skills and ending ! I give it 5 stars !
It’s a shame they don’t make them like this anymore
victor lewis you forgot to mention that they dressed better back then too.
@@alonzocalvillo6702 My dad use to wear a hat and suit when I was young when I lived in NYC!!
This is the kind of story and production that brought me happiness and hope throughout much of my life, and it continues to do so.

Great movie keeps you on your toes movie was maid 1939 these people are all gone but they left something behind a time capsule thank you 👍🇺🇸
When they call it a timeless classic they're calling it well I've seen this one more than once and the ending gets me every time,
This is one of the better classic crime movies and it is easy to see why. Enjoyed it very much and thanks for the show~!!!

I love sappy old movies and this was one of the best
1939. The best year ever for Hollywood films.
A DECENT WATCH I ENJOYED THIS THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE UPLOAD!!!
Love that old lady running the boarding house.
I adore this landlady. She's a real peach.
My mom was 15 years old when this movie came out! Too bad she did not have a dime for it!
The movies of yesteryear are the best.

If u like her in this ✔ her out as the aunt in "Indescret" w Gloria Swanson...1930's. Blk/ white love story
I think it’d be fun to play a part like that! Did anyone notice the dust fly when she hit the bed?

Lovely movie with suspense to the end.
I love those hats they were so stylish in those hats fedoras
Pure corn; but enjoyable. Maude Eburne (
Mrs. Magruder) was the standout.
Thanks for posting.
Great movie with a great ending.
Thanks TCM, I really enjoyed it and I did subscribe.
In case you did not notice, the newspaper man was played by a young Ben Alexander of Dragnet fame.

The last time I saw Sidney Blackmer is when he starred in Rosemary's baby in 1968 which was a big production movie at that time starring Mia Farrow.
That was real Gem of a Movie great acting and plot miss Freckles shore is a Peach ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jeff, I'm goin dippy! best line ever
wonderful. love this stuff
Ben Alexander from "Dragnet" also in this movies.
Half way through I realized it'd have a happy end; a nice drama, and not a film noir.
Now that is what I call a happy ending!
He scored a touch down
At 9:47 he has on a black suit. The guy walks on the door at 10:37 and now he is in the chair in a grey suit. Did he go home to change and come back in less than one minute?
GREAT MOVIE. GREAT ACTING. GREAT CLOTHES. GREAT HATS.THEY DONT MAKE THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE.
EVANGELIST ROGER MANSOUR
enjoyed it . thank you .
Cool melodrama, thanks

wondered the exact same thing myself
Not too bad a movie.
'Julie' Is a trifle 'Stagey' I'm afraid. Don't usually watch films before 1940 'cos they tended to be a bit that way.
Sidney Alderman Blackmer.....Lived in Manhattan...I still go past the building he use to live in...

I'm 20 min into the movie and it's a little creepy with brother and sister.
Lol I was noticing that too
a decent noir flick, but the ending is a bit of a letdown. 7/10.

Dave, gonna plow Julie in her "waste-maker" till next July ... !!
They cut out 10 minutes at 38:40 when she was getting up off her knees in between his legs ! Hmm 🤔
hmmmm, I wonder if Parole Office Bennett is still on the job, we could sure use a nudge like him.
funny tale about a gangster who has a shine for his sister
whats going on on youtube thats awesome :D , thanks
nice little movie
I thought parolees wren't supposed to go into bars or stay out after 10PM== they break all the rules in this film.
Gilda Marlowe people on parole didn't follow the rules then and they sure as hell don't now either. What's the recidivism rate...over 50% and guilty.

A good movie, but way too far fetched to believe that anything like that could happen, even back in the unjust 30s.
