If you are worried about weight on the skids take a note from us 4x4 guys and do UHMW plastic skid plate. Glad to see ya changed your mind. At least to protect the investment you are making even if you don't plan on thrashing it. It's easier/cheaper to swap a thrash piece of metal (or plastic) than to have the frame refinished and or repair a cracked case.
+1 on the plastic skids. I had a former pro national gncc bike and it had the plastic skids. Imo superior to aluminum they glide over mud as opposed to aluminum getting hung up plus they're lighter.
Hey bro im going to make a recommendation to you...a really good one. Dont weld the tabs back on. My buddy Glenn Turner runs a company called Xplicit Racing. He sells his PRO Ballistic skids and the come with mounting hardware. You dont need your stock skid mounts for the plate. I can send you a link on instagram to the skud plate if you want. He makes em for all year 250r's and all colors. I run one on my 400 and its absolutely bulletproof
@@DavidJohnson-ri2on it is man! I love mine it handles the abuse! He can also get the Campbell Race Fabrication skid plate. That thing is even more badass
I just started watching this build. For 3k and as nice as it is that's what they go for around my area. I like what you do. I'm a little bit of a purest and would be hard pressed to cut tabs. When you have a vision you just got to go with it. RADASS wheeler.
Definitely run a full frame skid, UHMW (composite)skids are a little lighter then alloy ones, gncc pros use them because they slide over rocks, logs , rough terrain easier. some even have frame hooks so no need to weld the tabs back on. great vid.
How are you not bigger on TH-cam it baffles me you make good videos, you know what your doing and saying, you put a lot of work and time and money into your videos you should be in the mills subs by now, people need to share your vids because you definitely deserve it 💯
Loved the hole shot mxr6 tires. Great they are still being made. Suprised no pros run them. I felt they had the best traction in all situations even when worn
Looking good Mike. I have been running the emig lock ons on my yz450. Lock on's are decent I think too many people hype them up. They cost more and are essentially just a grip glued onto tubes. Basically if you're not good at putting regular grips on or wiring them up they're good. They're a little thicker than a normal grip because of the tube. I've actually cracked and broke them and they become sharp and somewhat dangerous. As far as a quad with a thumb throttle I can see no real downfall in performance but with a twist throttle i think a nice throttle tube with a bearing is the way to go smoother and pretty much unbreakable. Like I said I've been running them on a bike but I plan on going back to a nice throttle tube and regular grips in the future.
I don’t really race, but I have an Lt250r and when I was looking for skids plates I found some pretty nice thick plastic ones by kased plates one eBay. They might be pretty nice for Mx cause they’re not as heavy as some of the other aluminum ones I’ve used for trail riding, just a thought.
After modding your 250r frame are there mods you would make to a banshee frame? I need to change the lugs where foot pegs attach as they are stripped which is common prob.
I actually did do mods to my Banshee frame before I painted it; but I didnt gusset it. I will build another Banshee in the future and that one I will definitely gusset!
@@harryareola3656 yes I did have a good laugh I wasn't butt hurt by it just like he wasn't by mine . he made a great example out of it because hes putting the mounts back on . I may be an asshole but im an honest asshole and that's better than being the lips kissing the asshole lol
Mike skid plate. You might consider the TMD Poly skids. They are built insane tough and are light. Just something to think about. TAC just put some on his trx 450r and they look sick. Im getting some for my 400 and my 450. for next year. around 120 each.
not thru the video yet but the title reminds me of that time I had an R and the axle was so old when I had to switch it out to change carrier bearing I couldnt get the axle nut off, nor could any of the shops, so I had to cut the axle lol. Percs of old dune quads lol
A skid plate or atleast some chain alignment and rear disc protection is very important. But in florida's sand on a mx track a engine skid isnt important in my opinion.
Yo I love your bike build vids bro I have a 2004 Honda trx450r that blew up about 5 months ago and I decided to completely rebuild the entire bike the way I want it and it’s finally about to be finished and I’ve had a lot of problems so far but it’s worth it good luck bro 🤙

Chad Caudill his 250R isn’t even nice 😂
Its your build you do what you want but ya i think a skid plate is a good thing when it protects the the engine witch aint cheap
Mike your a great guy who cares what those low life’s have to say, keep up the great work this bike is gonna look SICK👍
Thank you brother; means a lot 👊
We never ran skid plates in 90s

Yes the polyurethane are way better
Love your patriotism with flag design, thanks.
I remember when everyone was running turf tamers custom grooved rear tires with Riken radials in the front, it was a really good setup for mx.
I almost went with turf tammers!
NPM makes quality stuff. He is a Gun parts manufacturer that also loves 250r's. I have his rear brake reservoir. Its a very high quality product!

back in the day i wanted all nacs racing billet and graphics kit on blue fenders with a dark candy apple frame with chrome suspension

Weston does full poly skids...he might have them for the R
Rpm dominator axels are the best of had one on my banshee for 10+ years and still straight and clean looking Best Buy for your 250r

Don't sweat the skid plate thing dude, I can see you thinking either way especially depending on the type of track/riding. Great video as always.
Lot of nice products, look forward to seeing this build proceed
Can wait to start put all together and to see project 250R to become a finished Quad ;)

Don't well those tabs back on just by a full frame skid like the raptor they make them that just clamp on
just as long as its plastic, those metal ones rattle and sound like sheet!

cheers mate, good decisions was made IMO. gl with the build.
-1 swing arm and +3+1 a arms is the go to for 250r mx or xc racing
Hell yea man! That's what I'm rolling with 🤘
I suggest getting a full skid, it will protect the whole frame (powder coat).
No welding needed.
Yes sir, full skid. The DRW one I'm using I'd does utilize the factory mounting tabs though.
I have a feeling this 250 is going to be epic.
Like how your going with the build! NPM makes good parts I would like to buy their rear master cylinder

You should do a build on a 400ex. For your next build. That would be awesome
You did great with 3k for your bike. It was a runner. Mostly what you find in my area for 2500 is completely clapped out.
definitely gonna go order acouple shirts bro!
Can you do a extended modded out Yamaha blaster
In the future maybe; I might make a Blaster with the same color scheme as the Banshee

i see Mike I like and comment... its automatic!!!
Wassup Michael do you know the sizes of the bolts you used to take the crank out on that raptor 700
