    Sri Lanka might be the best country for travelling. It's compact but it has everything you would want to see and experience. Culture, nature and wildlife, beach scene, highlands and mountains, very good food, safety and really friendly people. I would stay for one more week or so, just to see Kandy, the cultural triangle and some NP for wildlife.

      @@ChannaJayawardhana-h1o I mean there is striking resemblance even with invidual letters that looks so much like telugu or kannada. What explains such similarity ?
      There should be some history behind this that was lost in time.

    • @ChannaJayawardhana-h1o
      @ChannaJayawardhana-h1o ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@browchump8764 when sinhalese ancestors came to sri lanka they didn't bring the North indian script devanagari.. cuz at that time devanagari script wasn't born.. before the modern script only brahmi was used to write old sinhala.. with time sinhalese got the Grantha,pallava and kadamba influence.. sinhala was isolated here with only southern indian languages and ethnicitie without any connection to other aryan ethnicities or languages.. it's an obvious thing..
      But again no it is not intelligible to telugu or kannada speakers.. cuz its a separate language.. even telugu and kannada got 90% similar scripts..but with sinhala no more than 10%..
      They'll guess the letters like "ර(R)"..

    The animal you saw near the station is a Civet. There are 6 types of Civets in Sri Lanka. Sadly most of our three wheelers do not have meters thus they rip locals and foreigners alike but on hills they burn up more fuel. One needs at least a month to explore Sri Lanka. There are places that tourists dont usually visit or popular but very interesting.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos

    • @BenCohen-wg4jx
      @BenCohen-wg4jx ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos Nope! That's definitely a mongoose. Civets are much more darker in colour and have cat-like features; whereas, mongoose have a light to dark brown colour to their fur. They have small rounded ears and small beady eyes with a pointed snout. We here in Sri Lanka say if you find a mongoose then definitely there will be one or two cobras around.
      Thank you Gabriel for your wonderful travelogs about my country, Sri Lanka. Hope you will visit us again in the near future coz there's so much more to discover in this beautiful pearl of the Indian Ocean. Wish you a safe journey in Thailand.

    The artwork differs from period yo period like the Anuradhapura period, Polonnaruwa period and Kandyan period. It is believed that the Buddha carving was not finished completely but abandoned for a reason. There is a cave there which is now walled up some say after a few people got lost and never found. Folklore says that cave leads to Ravana water fall.

    That was crazy everyone sitting and standing on the side of the bridge. You fall, you die.

    Well you should have some king coconut (orange/green) or at least Lankan ginger beer while you are there :)

    Gabriel.
    Hello. Sri Lanka. Seven + half month in, on the go.
    You prove that it's untrue for man to travel all over the world. I read it would take a foreigner to Nepal One hundred years to catch up to the level of a Sherpa. So hot how the Sherpa guest house meet + greet in the mountain hike area wanted to lob your pack to the house.
    Appreciate it, very inspiring.
    Look! Craig the I don't want you to take a break guy UK. Gabriel if you must though:)
    Thank you for going around Sri Lanka, say that's beautiful to be there.
    OK Gabriel see you for now. Best of luck!

    I spent 3 months in Sri Lanka a few years back . I did a two month solitary retreat in a jungle monastery outside of Gompala which was very nice. Then I spent about 2 months travelling around most of the island surfing with my youngest son which was also very nice. The food almost everywhere was pretty boring... string hoppers , toast and jam basically crap. We both concluded that it's probably the most untidy place we've been there's just shit ,and rubbish everywhere ,almost every building has asbestos roofing and asbestos everywhere thanks to the multi national James Hardie that dumped all their product in Sri lanka after litigation in the West reached monumental proportions for mesothelioma . Almost all the travellers we met were somewhat bored and a little besieged by 3 wheeler drivers scamming them. The south west beaches have good surf it's much of a muchness and not a place I would ever go back to ....no real soul or substance and years of political abuse from the prevailing political class have made the place a kind of shell of what it might have been. Everyone's friendly but desperately trying to make a living in a failed economy which may make you a target in many ways .

    I know everyone travels differently but I would have only got as far as Kangra by now. Travel in a disablity wheel-chair, India at 15kms an hour.

    Hi Gabe: Excellent vlog of Ella and surrounding areas. that animal did look like a mongoose but it was fatter than the usual ones. By the way, "Ravana" is pronounced "Raavanaa" not the other way around.
