These north caucus regions on Eli's channel are the most informative and will go down in history as being her best work. So few independent TH-camrs venture into these regions so the information is sparse. Kudos to that wonderful cab driver that gave you a a hell of a tour of the entire region outside the city. This is the first time I have heard of Ingushetia, but I feel so connected to these people because I come from Sandzak, a region in Serbia and Montenegro with Muslim minority that officials have gerrymandered and renamed, but where we had a somewhat similar destiny, culture and values. Unfortunately, we are turning more towards the comodities of modern times, which is good in many aspects, but we are also losing some of our best values. When I see how honorably these men are behaving it reminds me of my grandfather and his generation, staying united and proud of their culture. Wish you all the best good people! Also, thank you Eli for showing us that there is so much more in the world to see and explore, places we never knew exsisted.
No officials have renamed anything in Serbia and Montenegro. Except the Turkish who upon their conquest XV-XIX century imposed there Islam, pushed and awarded converts from Christianity and named the region in their language. You stick to that name, in spite of your obvious roots and different language origin. Cool down your fantasies, the present-day officials have more tolerance for your region and culture than anyone else in the world would ever have.
@@Emerald_City_ The Ottomans were here about 500 years and many generations ago, if religion was imposed on anyone, it wasn't me, and the name for my region I choose because of the tradition, but I guess you sitting a few hundred kilometres away and not knowing anything about my region, religion, tradition or family history would know better what I should believe in and how I should call my region, my town or myself, how we should arrange things in our life, where we should go to the doctor etc. You perfectly represent the government you elected, which I couldn't oppose because I belong to a minority, they further divided into small regions in order to manipulate the elections. But unlike them, you have no jurisdiction over anything, you are just an annoying fly whose buzzing is annoying but doesn't mean anything.
@@a.z.983 I am glad you wrote this! This is your true signature. No need for a name. You said quite a lot about yourself this way. But I hope you get some positive impulses and change to better. Why live in frustration? Before I leave you to your own thoughts, hopefully, know just this. The man to whom you refer as "an annoying fly" (b.t.w. who has taught you to refer to other people like that? ...certainly not your grandfather) lives among the Muslims, traveled throughout various Asian Islamic countries, had and still has good friends among them, bought and read Quran and was in the old mosque in Novi Pazar with your religious fathers probably long before you were even born... But you don't care, do you. Is that your tradition? Or is it the way you deal with the truth... not promising, young man! You wish all the best to Ingush people and the Russians; that's great! But wouldn't it be all the more desirable to have some more positive thoughts and intentions for your own neighbors, and your own country? Instead of calling people "flies"?
@@Emerald_City_ What you've written is exactly the burdening narrative imposed on us that we live with all our lives, and I can't respect that, no matter of your age. I don't think anyone would appreciate being told how they should feel about their religion, place of origin etc, so I see no reason for surprise as it is a normal human reaction and I don't think it says anything special about me. What you have done is mansplained me about things I have lived through and you have only visited, repeating false 'facts' I have been told all my life about myself at school and in the media, but had no say in any of it. What you've read and where you've been doesn't mean much if you haven't done it with an open heart. I'm not so young not to remember when the Serbs burned our mosques to take revenge on the Albanians for burning their churches, and we had absolutely nothing to do with it. Ans before and after that we were blamed for what the Ottomans did 500 years ago, even though I'm not an Ottoman Turk, and I'm not 500 years old. What I would apreciate more than you reading about Islam is to let us call ourselves as we want, decide about our religion based on our hearts, not on some assumptions why some of my 256 grandparents (7-9 generations ago) converted. The name of the region is important because it describes a culture with a common tradition and brotherhood, and the name ban is an attempt to erase our ties and traditions, and the division is a political game to tie us to other regions in an attempt to dilute their votes in elections.
@@a.z.983 I am not burdening you, your burden is what you carry on you, the decisions of your predecessors. I am perfectly fine with their and your choice as long as you don't twist the facts about the rest. I am just opposing you telling untrue things here - which you repeatedly state, to force us see you as a victim category - but in reality nobody is telling you how to call yourself, let alone what should be your religion. To the contrary. That's a nonsense and you know it. You live in a poor country with many problems, but it's still not that bad, and at least you have freedom as few people in other countries ever have. But you experience that as a weakness of the majority, so now even that's not good. The representatives of your region have been high positioned politicians in Serbia for decades far exceeding the normal quotes, but you come up with some invented stuff. That one single mosque was set to fire, not burned, was a *grave mistake* and a bad sign, but if you put it in the context... it's not a reason to keep whining for 20 years with all the benefits that you enjoy. And if you don't respect other culture, or even elder people like me, well, than it's telling a lot about you and your culture. How do you know what I do with my heart and what not? You don't, but you take freedom to say such things. If you can't love your neighbor and your country, at least respect them. Would be better for all.

Yes, though not entirely honest about Chechen violence only being in response to an act of offense or attack against them first in the present tense. As in other Muslim cultures, there is also a willingness to see this in a historical context--i.e., if such-and-such people _ever_ offended or attacked my people, then it is our right to retaliate or exact revenge, etc., when and where we choose. It was interesting to listen to Americans be completely mystified when Saddam Hussein would talk about events of a thousand years ago as if they were still relevant for being responded to in the present.

Kartvelian and Ingushetians are the last ancient relict of caucasus. And Ingush are our last remaining relatives in the North Caucasus. The Chechens came later. Must have been 1978 on our way to Greece, we also visited Lake Ohrid in Macedonia, then southern Yugoslavia. Close to the Albanian border (... the forbidden country) we went to Sveti Naum, an Orthodox-Christian monastery that was and is famous for its mosaics. Further the road was closed with a barrier, kept by a military guard ... we, a young couple from Belgium with a little girl, were just curious what was to be hidden and I tried to ask him (he didn't seam to understand anything in any of 5 international languages that I mastered) if it were possible just to walk further to the border ... his answer : a Kalashnikov on my face ! This is the only way of communication of such normally hospitable people that lived under totalitarian indoctrination for several generations ... that was the time of Tito ... the Balkan wars were in the pipeline as I felt once more in 1986, traveling through Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. So beautiful countries, lovely people everywhere, wonderful cultures ... nevertheless unimaginably rough and brutal.

My family is from the appalachian mountains in the US. Often described as the poorest area in the country and backwards for keeping old traditions. I've heard many appalachians say they'd rather be poor at home in the mountains, than have some money somewhere else. We also always make sure the oldest has the best seat in the house and if there's only os many seats, whoever is the oldest gets them. The rest of us will stand or sit on the floor. Appalachia was pretty isolated until the 90s also when the internet came around and opened up the outside world to them. I brought my sister in law down to appalachia and she was so surprised by how nice strangers were and how accommodating, because people have a feeling they should stay out of appalachia because they might get shot for being an outsider. Lots of similarities here.
I'm black, and I've never had a problem with anyone from Appalachia. Friendly and incredibly competent. I truly believe that if you dropped a mountain man off on Mars and came back in a month, you'd find him with multiple stills and there'd be Martian moonshine waiting for you.

I was mortified to learn that there are all these restrictions in Ingushetia for safety reasons. In any case, Ingushetia remains a beautiful country and I was very fascinated by the story the gentleman told about his family and the towers and how weddings take place there. Thank you for this very informative video and I send you a big hug.

@@Ryan_Winter Given their history with foreigners, her unusual activity, and the job of the police, it couldn't have happened any other way. When the shock wore off, she understood not to be offended.

Eli, you have produced a lot of excellent videos. This is one of your best. You get a local to speak about life in Ingushetia, about unique culture and events that we would have never learned about.
The Landscape are wow! Merci from Montreal Canada
Amazing documentary! Eli, you're a badass for handling that detainment. Thanks for making this and giving the world a view into Ingushetia :)
Absolutely fascinating!! Thank-you Eli - it took a great deal of courage 💪 to go to Ingushetia .. I'm sorry for what they put you through. 💞🕊️
Ingushetia is the safest region of Russia; the smallest number of crimes are committed there, both in number and in percentage of the population
В Ингушетию может приехать любой человек, мы всегда рады гостям
Wow very educational. Sorry you had to go through the arrest but your video of Ingushetia is amazing, fair and balanced and appears to reflect the life there very accurately. Thanks for this - I had no idea about this place.
Beautiful land, and people, the fact they are isolated is a blessing and peace of the lands
Wonderful conversation with the gentleman in the mountains speaking about the culture and etiquette of the Muslim people. Thank you so much for letting me be part of these people. Most interesting. Bless you Eli.

For someone like myself so far away in South Africa, this was a fascinating insight. There is a sense of calmness and honestly from all involved that is heartwarming and often missing in other countries in the modern world.
I’m also South African, from Gqerbeha originally but living in WC. Even within this country, different provinces are like different worlds.
Another awesome video Eli! You are an exceptional storyteller. Thank you so very much for sharing your experience. So sad and upsetting that you were detained and questioned by the police. But more importantly, what a lesson in turning a negative into a positive! The video was very enlightening, showing the beauty of the tiny land of Ingushetia. Warm greetings from California! 🤩🤩🤩✌🏻🫶
We are in Ingush Republic very respectful to tourist, but police should do check in. We have a lot of drug dealers from all parts of Russia. Ingush Republic is lowest crime rate Republic with bad economy like everywhere in Russia. We don't kidnap or rob someone.

What an interesting and informative video. The interview with Ramazan was amazing - his Russian is really nice to listen to. I didn’t know about Ingushetia - the culture and traditions are fascinating, and I’d like to visit and meet the people. Thank you Eli.

I am from Malaysia and have been your subscriber for sometime now. I have learned a lot about Russia through your eyes. Please don't despair about this unfortunate event and take it as a life's lesson. Please carry on with the good work as the unofficial Russian ambassador. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us
Malaysian here too!
The video is about Ingushetia not Russia. The country was occupied by Russian imperia and after by Soviets.
@@giaivanishvili4183 Well , all americas were occupied AND cleansed of original inhabitants . Some conquerors like russians (or chinese or old european states ) were content with just ruling over other nations . Anyway i have seen many examples when getting free from the "opressor" was counterproductive . All ex soviet states except the tiny baltics suffered greatly . The decolonised africa was the same but i suspect foul play from the former rules . The recent niger affair was quite a eye opener
@@giaivanishvili4183 It was conquered by Monguls, than turks, than persians, than ottomans, than russians. So why you ignore the rest and only point out Russia?

I absolutely love this North Caucasus series. Been reading and researching about it since I was kid. Never visited and I hope I will. Also very sorry that happened to you, I get it that they are edgy because of everything that happened there in recent history and I hope they are gonna shape up the police force and educate them a little bit better, because touristic potential of north Caucasus is huge, ESPECIALLY with knowledgeable people like your driver. He seems like someone who I can listen and speak for days!
Kartvelian and Ingushetians are the last ancient relict of caucasus.
And Ingush are our last remaining relatives in the North Caucasus. The Chechens came later. So that you know how old the Ingush ethnic group is and how close Ingush and Georgians were and are together. The first king of united Georgia, Parnavas, married an Ingush princess in 300 BC and since then we Georgians have been like family with Ingush. We do not have such contact with other ethnic groups.
I'm so glad you're okay and that they let you go. Thank you for making this film despite that. You're braver than me to carry on and try not to let it bother you.
I am pretty well educated in world history but I have to say I learned a few things here today about the culture and history of Ingushetia...thanks so much for this video...very well done.

Ingusheti people are respected in country of Georgia, it’s crazy how similar our traditions are but they managed to keep them and follow them in our times however in Georgia everything changed after western influence, now only ppl from high mountain region like khevsurs and svans are following similar strict rules
It doesn’t matter that Georgia is more relaxed about traditions; in the cities of Ingushetia they are also observed less, the main thing is that Georgians respect these traditions and behave with dignity
What an amazing video. This is the first time that I have heard of and seen Ingushetia. Your interview and narration technique, coupled with your cinematography, make this video a pleasure to watch. It also helps me practice my Russian. Great work!

@ironsugar8690 people feel what they feel. I go there often and it's mostly normal. This case is obviously about an autonomous republic that's conservative, traditional, not used to strangers and vloggers. It obviously has nothing to do with the central government or what opinion anyone has.
Eli! This was an awesome video! I have learned a lot of interesting things now from Ignush land. I have always admired you, through you, this huge country you live in! The recording is also perfect, the visuals are amazing!

That was fascinating, Eli- you are very brave for continuing your review and interviews after such a nasty experience of being arrested- even if it was for a short time. Really interesting to see such a unusual country.
In most western countries police would need the permit of a judge to search your phone. But its in most cases safer to behave cooperative like you did. While we all like to watch amazing content like yours, please always remember to put your safety first, especially at foreign places! ❤
That's not what happens in reality, you can see plenty of car arrests in usa where the officers search everything from hand palm searching every part of the body, searching, bags, clothes, etc.. searching a phone might not be happening but that's because yankee officers have extremely low IQ they could not do it 😆

@@blanketparty5259 lol why on earth would it be pointless to compare? are you unable to judge what is bad and what is good? conservative cultures fucking suck. plain, obvious and simple.

ELI - - - I think that this video is THE BEST ONE that You Have Created, Because The STORY that You Show To Us, of your experiences in Ingushetia WAS NOT SCRIPTED or PLANNED. It is a Story that You Did Not Expect to Happen: - A STORY that FELL ON YOUR HEAD - and We Were THERE - TO WATCH IT FALL. The ADVENTURE that We The Viewers Went On With You was THE SAME ADVENTURE That You Were Going On While SHOWING IT TO US! Such things as BEING ARRESTED, CRYING, Needing to ESCAPE INTO THE MOUNTAINS, and ASKING People ABOUT INGUSHETIAN LAWS, CULTURE, and BELIEFS were All So Honestly Presented By You that I really felt like I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. - "BRAVO!"
Thank you for this glimpse into another culture and country! Beautiful!
Thank you for your hard work, Eli. I was really happy to learn more about Ingushetia and the Caucacus region from you.
I was thinking the same thing !
As long as ppl don't behave like hillbillies, we good.
I'm black, and I've never had a problem with anyone from Appalachia. Friendly and incredibly competent. I truly believe that if you dropped a mountain man off on Mars and came back in a month, you'd find him with multiple stills and there'd be Martian moonshine waiting for you.
@@bestlaidplans4511yeah but to make the moonshine he needs more resources, so he gon also find a way to get fresh water and grow food like corn and sugarcane 😂 if there’s a will there’s a way my papa always said
