Gabriel, at 28:54 the old lady asked you "You have bon bon" ? She wasn't asking for money. Bon bon is candy. She said she's from Kalutara and people from that part of the country are used to foreign tourists (mainly Germans) handing out bon bon (candy) to kids. So when they see a foreigner, they assume you have bon bon for them. In the United States, a stranger giving candy to kids would be kind of sketchy but it's normal in Southern Sri Lanka.
Okay, that makes more sense.

Go to Dambulla Cave temple, you can see 155 Buddha statues and there are 5 caves.
If you want to see Buddha statues carved from the rock, you need to go to polonnaruwa gal viharaya
Your interest seems to be ancient cities and ruins .ideal place for your interests definitely Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. First and second capital cities of f Sri Lanka.Anuradhapura was the Buddhist civilization and Sinhalese culture flourished more than 1500 years. After South Indian invasion kingdom move from Anuradhapura to Plonnaruwa. Both these places will give you a true picture of Sinhalese Buddhist civilization. Also the ancient irrigation systems with plenty of man made lakes.

Sri Lanka is heaven on earth. visit and see your self. It is most underrated tourist destination. Except snow it has every thing. one of the bio diversity hot spot on the world.
Not many foreign tourists visit both the temple you went (almost none), this is the first time I’m seeing those places on TH-cam.

It is very interesting to see that in coastal areas buddhist archetecture is mixed with European architecture somehow but inland archetecture and people are way more traditional.. ❤
Portuguese and Dutch controlled coastal areas for centuries and Brits took over the whole country in 1815.

Gabriel we stayed in that very room in Ella. The monkeys will come down to the Balcony if you leave food on the hand rail. It's a quick walk to town via the railway tracks. I am really enjoying your Sri Lankan series. You need my time there. In Ella "Chill" top floor isa great place to eat. Cheers.

I lived in Marissa for a year in 2013. A beautiful town that I hope to return to some day.

Also, try to see if “nil diya pokuna” (blue pond) is accessible. Ask a local at your hotel. It is an underground lake inside a rock close to Ella. And DON’T make a video about it if you go there. It is pristine and need less attention.
I’d so try a Tuktuk rental just to see what it’s a like. Sounds like fun!

Hi Gabriel, fascinating sites incredible artwork, and design, and if you notice the aura as depicted in many religious forms around the world. These areas are so well-preserved and very well-kept there's a real reverence there. I recently watched some videos found around India there is such stark contrast from Ski Lanka I'm guessing that overpopulation is an issue in India which is why you see such disparagement. Well Gabriel, Happy Holidays, thank you for everything you bring to this channel.

Literally right before I watched this was a news report that read "Police in Sri Lanka say they have arrested almost 15,000 people during a week-long drive against drug traffickers across the country. They say the operation lead to the seizure of almost 440 kg of various types of narcotics, including heroin." So, bit of a stark contrast! 😆

I wonder if you could get in depth on many of these places throughout the world that you visit by hooking up with local university experts and doing some impromptu tours with them. Bam bam is a salutation to God Shiva and some people offer such substances to him and then consume as Prasad. I doubt same would be done in Sri Lanka.. it's primarily Buddhist.
