Sri Lanka is my #1 favorite paradise location. Primarily because of the beauty of Mirisa Beach, the best food in the world for me (tied with Trinidad), kindest people and the fact that there aren't too many tourists.
I love Sri Lanka. Was there five years ago, and was impressed as well. and yes I agree, it's more like SE Asia than India. Those big lizards actually are the same ones you see in Bangkok's Lumpini park. There are so many of them there and looks really creepy, but people say they are harmless.
Would you say you prefer Sri Lanka or Thailand more? I was just recently in Thailand, and I met few people there who were speaking highly of Sri Lanka.
As a Sri Lankan, I personally have no problem at all with the use of reggae music in these Sri Lankan videos. Reggae is huge in the south of Sri Lanka (where you are currently) - you will hear reggae music in beach restaurants, etc along the southern coast of Sri Lanka, and you will see tuktuk drivers and beach boys in locs (the hairstyle), tuktuk drivers listening to reggae with their tuktuks decorated with Bob Marley pictures, etc. "One Love restaurant" that you saw proves that haha. The non-reggae music you used in this video is good too, it matches the relaxed vibe of Sri Lanka, please keep using that kind of music because it makes me feel like I am right there on a sunny Sri Lankan beach! Your videos have been really enjoyable, keep going :)
I was there in 2020. Right at the beginning of the pandemic. Beautiful country, really epic surfing. I am headed back in March. Stoked for you you get to enjoy this special land!
How would you say Sri Lanka compares to Thailand, like scenery-wise, food-wise, friendliness, etc? I recently was on motorcycle trip around Thailand a couple months ago and I ran into a group of people who had just come from Sri Lanka and they were absolutely raving about it, saying it is one of their favorite countries. It really peaked my interest, and made me want to visit.
I'd say it's quite similar in a general sense. Different language, different people, different food but the rainforest and beaches are similar, same religion and the general atmosphere feels a lot like both Thailand and Indonesia.

So many incredible places to visit in Sri Lanka, you could make a lot of videos there! My favorite memories are of Kandy and tea country. Drinking tea there is mind-blowing.

I've very fond memories of my visit to Sri lanka way back in 2011... the southern part of the country is very similar to the Indian state of Kerala in many ways.... topography, cuisine, cleanliness etc. ❤
Hi, How is Sri Lanka? I hope you must be enjoying the beaches and road trips there. The beach on this video looks clean and great. I am still planning to make a trip there but I had to renew my passport before any travels now. Enjoy!
Watching you drink your Passion fruit cocktail made me recall that I once had the glorious idea to order a Malaga ice cream milkshake in Malaga. The raisins clogged up the straw, rendering it an unsatisfactory drinking experience. The taste was heavenly, though.
Oh my, What is that building at the end of the beach? I was there last 10 months before the tsunami. I bet that changed the beach too. It wasn't nearly as wide but so beautiful back then. It looks good now too. Reaggae music is perfact for Sri Lanka beaches :-)

Unawatuna is a lovely location. Sri Lankan Calypso-style Baila is a good easy listening style of music. Bands playing at evening meals in hotels usually play a calypso style like this and it always reminds me of the country.
Sri Lankan music trend: Radio Ceylon with their improvised transmitter (from a captured U-boat during WWII) set the trend for South Asia including all corners of India. I could catch it from West Africa. They followed world charts. When Kiu Sakamoto’s sukiyaki hit the US charts we heard Blue Diamond (Indonesian band) version on same year. Hi Gabriel, what a day hitting the beach there was that Polynesian feel to your day with a Hawaiian Luau at the end of the day. Of course, the Pina Colada was created in Puerto Rico, considered the rum capital of the world, and home of maybe the most famous rum Bacardi. Ski Lanka has a lot of competition in that region of the world and when it comes to tourism it doesn't get the same attention as other well-known places. Hakuna Matata leave your worries behind.

So I had guessed right, Sri Lanka does have Portugese influence. Those Buddhist temples in last video, one of them definitely seemed to have been influenced by Portuguese architecture. Looked very similar to kind of buildings one sees in parts of Goa.
Very beautiful beach in this video. One Indian movie I saw last year was filmed in Sri Lanka, the interior part, and it seemed very mystical and the natural beauty was breathtaking. I hope Gabriel visits there. Sri Lanka is very interesting and beautiful. 😍
The hotel rates vary throughout the year. Rates are high during tourist season which is probably from about Nov to March. This is winter time in Europe and many come here from Europe during this time to escape the cold. Hotels also could be more expensive on Sat and Sun as locals also stay at hotels during weekends. Demonetizing a video if copyrighted music is used seems like a really stupid business move by youtube, why not give the rightsholders a bit of the revenue instead??
I agree. You might have thirty seconds of the video in which there's a pop song playing in the background somewhere you happen to be filming or a street musician plays a copyrighted song, then TH-cam flags it and the whole video gets demonetized for the creator and all the profits go to the owner of the song that played for thirty seconds. It's a wacky system. So you just have to try and avoid all popular music, even if it's only playing in the background somewhere.
It seems there's not much more to this place than it being "cleaner" than some others, plus beaches and modern day temples. It's not interesting so far to be totally honest.

Gabriel, You seem to have found a nice , clean place , beach side restaurant , and beach with clean clear water ! Hope you had an enjoyable visit . What other scary looking animals , besides the monitor lizards are around the water ? Any sharks ? Take care , have fun ❣️
What we call Thalagoya is "Bengal monitor", not Iguana. There are no Iguanas in Sri Lanka. Also, 'Nariya' is Jackal, not Fox. 'Kotiya' is Leopard, not Tiger (Wyagraya). Just pointing out some common mis-translations. There aren't any foxes, nor tigers in Sri Lanka.
Wow! Unawatuna has changed since I was last there (stayed several times in the 1990s). The road down to the beach was just a dirt track (which turned to mud in the rain!) and it was mainly guesthouses and small hotels (no more than two storeys, and definitely no pools). The sand seems wider now - at high tide it almost disappeared in one section. I wonder if the tsunami changed the profile of the beach, shifting the sand around? Sad to see the huge hotel… Unawatuna was very much a simple, laid back place with no frills.
I read online that the tsunami pretty much erased the beach, but I guess it came back. I'm sure it's changed a lot over the past thirty years, for various reasons.
Hi you can use baila songs for music . You can be social media influencer for Sri Lanka and ask your colleagues on line with Sri Lankan tourism . Next year we’ll in week time Sri Lanka is top ten for digital nomad . And 9th most Instagraable place in world with tik tok as well . There is so much scope to promote Sri Lanka as lush green tropical island country as well cruises as its location is very important
I’m impressed by Gabriel’s health especially when travelling is his full time job. Many TH-camrs who do travelling full time have complained about their deterioration of health because of eating lots of street foods, which are generally unhealthy and having an unbalanced diet.
He walks so much. Walking has miraculous benefits for health. And he doesn't eat street or fast food, mostly just proper meals. And then a positive attitude to top it all.
My 82 year old mom is with me.. she was born in Mexico city.. she traveled the plane trip and lax and Benito Juarez airport like a pro.. cool and unbothered
That monitor has got to be related to the Komodo Dragon, and those guys are more terrifying than crocs, not only because they can outrun you on land, but because they can literally swallow you whole.
Hi Gabriel. FYI: What to do when I encounter a monitor lizard? Do not be alarmed. These animals are shy and will not attack humans unless provoked or cornered. Do not touch, chase or corner them as they may attack in defence. You are advised to leave them alone. It is fine to observe them from afar. Seek medical attention immediately if (in a rare event) you are bitten. Although monitor lizards do secrete venom, it is not fatal to humans. The main cause for concern would be bacterial infection from the bite.
Perhaps you didn't understand my explanation in the video. Yes, there is Sri Lankan music on the internet. But it must be copyright free music that I find on the website I use to download almost all the music that is featured in my videos. When I searched for Sri Lanka I didn't find any Sri Lankan music. I don't want to use other sources of music on the internet because I I don't know for certain if they can be used in a TH-cam video and also whether their status might change at some time in the future. So it's a matter of finding music within the service I use which is Epidemic Sound.
Brother Gabe, No Beer?? what’s wrong bro? Try a Lion beer… it’s not bad… welcome to paradise… Sri lanka… what a beautiful place… see the winter palace of the old king.. Sigiriya. life changing…

Gabriel, You seem to have found a nice , clean place , beach side restaurant , and beach with clean clear water ! Hope you had an enjoyable visit .
What other scary looking animals , besides the monitor lizards are around the water ? Any sharks ?
Take care , have fun ❣️
that whole beach area was wiped out in the tidal wave, it was so beutiful before when I stayed there in 1991.
Harald would recommend the Kassipu in Sri Lanka
with population density of 350 per square kilometer Sri Lanka has maintained their nature very well
Reggae works perfect
14:55 it’s a iguana, 23:38 a baby Water monitor. They are not dangerous.
@@rgb_82 yes you are correct, I just looked it up on google. Thanks for rectifying.
@@parulsinha3092 I agree. I know Gabriel also does yoga 🧘 too which also has health benefits as well.
Sunlight, fresh air, walking does a world of good. Although in many parts of india i think the air is not so fresh haha
@@the2012man air is not good only in metro cities in India. There too, certain localities are better than the others.
I watched this to relax after a long travel day in Mexico
Great, where in Mexico?
Mexico city, Guanajuato city, and Puerto Vallarta, with a side trip or 2.. Guanajuato is my favorite Mexican city!!
My 82 year old mom is with me.. she was born in Mexico city.. she traveled the plane trip and lax and Benito Juarez airport like a pro.. cool and unbothered
I see, right on, good choices. Guanajuato is my favorite Mexican city as well. Enjoy.
That monitor has got to be related to the Komodo Dragon, and those guys are more terrifying than crocs, not only because they can outrun you on land, but because they can literally swallow you whole.
Yo know they say Gabe, expect the unexpected. Enjoying the Sri Lankan videos.
Why not use Tom Petty’s (Full Moon Fever) songs every now and then,Gabe.
I was going to say that the only arak that I know tastes like licorice. I can't imagine that working with passion fruit. :)
best place for surfing ❤sri lanka
There are VERY beautiful beaches in Portugal! ❤
Unawatuna SeaBreeze for next accommodation? Nice quiet place!
lovely, informative video... 👍❤
Thanks for the info.
There is srilankan music😌. Not much but pretty decent amount. And we prefer reggae over indian
@@GabrielTravelerVideos have no idea😐
People sure love relaxing on the beach. Vicarious thrill. Hope you get to Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth.
13:36 just casually walks into the little kids photo lol
hey! hes a youtuber. they have the right!
Brother Gabe, No Beer?? what’s wrong bro? Try a Lion beer… it’s not bad… welcome to paradise… Sri lanka… what a beautiful place… see the winter palace of the old king.. Sigiriya. life changing…
Gave it a try, Lion is one of the best mass produced beers out there, much better than any Indian or southeast Asian beers, especially the stout, delicious.
Go to Jungle beach, it’s nearby Unawatuna
I'm a mountain person but this is just amazing
We have mountains too here in Sri Lanka, hopefully Gabriel will go to the mountains ⛰️
Mountains.... bro search more videos about sri lanka. You will see what sri lanka have..
are yougoing to do favorite countries to visit at the end of this year? has your list changed over the years?
