Case Canoe knife review: Classic Pocket Knife

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 12 ม.ค. 2012
- The Case Canoe is a lovely example of a old style slip joint folding knife. It is a beautiful design with smooth flowing lines. The canoe gets it name from the shape of the handle being similar to the profile of a traditional native American canoe.
Case knives are well known as collectables, and we'll discuss that aspect of the knives. I have carried one as a work EDC for a while so we'll also look how the knife fits into the modern world as a user blade.
Case knives come in a seemingly endless range of designs, colours, jigging, shields designs, and so it goes on. In the Canoe range alone the variety is amazing, and of course limited editions appear regularly to tempt the collector.
As mentioned in the video I must thank Stefan for introducing me to these knives. His review is a must see and is linked below. Please take the time to watch it, it is one of my all time favorite knife videos;

Oh, and that blue one is AMAZING. I'm craving a canoe now!
@BohemianBruce Hi Bruce, thanks for the positive feedback mate, I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Cheers :)
Excellent review, Mark! I'm glad I was able to spark your interest in Case knives. The Canoe pattern is one of my favorites, too. You picked six amazing beauties! The colors are absolutely stunning.
That's one of my favorite Case knife patterns. Great video !
@oldguy537 Thank you sir, glad you liked it.
If I could only own one knife it would be a canoe. Wonderful combination of blades and design. I have four Case and four Hen and Rooster canoes. The Case is a bit more robust, Hen and Rooster use only a single back spring for both blades instead of two as Case does. Nice video.
I love to see your passion of Case Canoe pocket knives.
My pocket knife collection is somewhat different because it is based less on Case knives and more on particular organizations, activities, and companies that hold meaning in my life.
I will always state though that there is nothing like a Case pocket knife.
Very nice collection. I just got the cv amber bone canoe. I love it. Developed a beautiful patina from cutting up a onion and apple
Well, I was siting drinking some tequila and stumbled upon this review. This is the nicest collection of Case Canoes that I've seen. Thank you for the video, thanks for sharing with us.
Grant Aldrich Thanks Grant. I've moved on some from my Canoe obsession and now favor single blade traditional designs. But I've still got these in the display case, and you never know, if the right colour/pattern/edition comes along I could be tempted :)
I am waiting for my canoe to be delivered. 62131ss, Case XX Select, Brick Red bone, winter bottom jigging only 250 made. can't wait.
Thank you for the great review , I have been bitten by the bug and can't stop looking at case TH-cam vids. Then around 1: 00 a.m. I slip out to the kitchen with the tablet and credit card in hand, pour a big icy glass of milk and commit yet another knife buying act making sure not to wake the spouse . When will it end?
I have a Nandy Conure so I appreciate the bird vocalizations in the background. thanks again.
spy8464BB I feel for you brother ! You can never have enough knives, guns or fishing rods.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. I have since got a couple of Copperlocks and really like them too. Review of the Mini Copperlock will be uploaded soon. Very cool knives indeed, quite addictive too lol.
When I was a kid, i told an old man that it was "stupid" to have a pocket knife with two blades. He replied, rather kindly, that a lack of knowledge often led youngsters to dismiss many things as stupid, when they were actually quite ingenious. Then, he explained that most old-timers would sharpend their knife's main blade with a rough stone, to get a general-purpose cutting edge, and sharpen the small blade with a fine stone to create a razor-sharp slicing edge.
looks great .i just picked up a new case olive green stockman.bone handle barn edition .got it for 60 today.they are up to 135 now beautiful knife .love them
@Optionsaregood The bug has bitten thats for sure. They are old school cool, makes a nice chance from all the modern black handled stuff I have. Thanks for watching mate.
I really do need to treat myself to a GEC knife one of these days. Thanks for reminding me.
Nice knives. Good video too. Your correct with the dating system. I like the canoes as well. I had to laugh when I saw your other video on a canoe. I laughed because at the start of this video, you now have 6. They are quite addicting, aren't they. I think the main reason for the bolster shape is to cover all protrusions of the blades when closed. My favorites are the Trappers, Canoes & Texas Toothpicks. Thanks for the great videos of your Case knives. I enjoy them. Take care.
Good review, as always! Love the knife.
After watching the complete review: once I buy a canoe it is probably going to kick my mercator knife out of my pocket.
A large spear blade for most of my edc duties, which is mostly preparing food, cutting rope, whittling a stick and opening the occasional packaging tape AND a small pen blade for detail cuts and carving. Like whittling a spoon or making notches in wood or sharpening a pencil of course ;D
Very jealous of your collection of canoes by the way
just a question since u mentioned the mercator: does it too have a vertical play ? actually it is a nuce knife but mine has that vertical play which is a no-go for me.
@hatsan38 They do have a certain charm. Also because of our laws regarding carrying a knife, there is still a place for these. Thanks for watching Hatsan..
Oh no I've watched another Case review, I have a Peanut and mini trapper, looks like I'll have to save up for a Canoe ! Thanks for sharing, subbed your channel. All the best from Scotland. Garry
@TheRATPT01 I've lookked at them online, a little expensive, but they look good. I've got my eye on one that looks traditional but is actually a liner lock. Thanks for watching mate.
@pagant100 LOL, thats exactly what happened to me after watching Stefan's video. I just could not get them out of my mind so had to have some. I'll probably keep adding to the collection too! I'm sure you'll really enjoy them. Thanks for the sub, it's nice to have you on board.
Quite lovely. Thank you for sharing.
great review of sweet collection ..
Mark,
Wow, what a great review. Thanks so much for taking your time. Yes, I've been buying far-too many knives lately. Mainly GECs; however, your video convinced me and as soon as I finish with my comment I'm going to order the Case CV canoe. Also, think I'm going to order a GEC White Owl which is a single spring "pen-type knife" about the same size as the Case Canoe.
I wish you well, sir. And, thanks again for your efforts.
Regards,
George
@stschmalhaus Hi Stefan, yes it's all your fault that I have yet another avenue of knife addiction ;) I'll probably try some other Case designs too, but the Canoe will remain the main focus for me. Just as well I think, otherwise I would spend far too much money on this. I'm glad you liked the video, cheers my friend.
@MrJaycee500 Glad you liked the video, I'll be sure to look up the Parker knives. Thanks for the tip.
Great video - thanks.
@tendollarword Hope you enjoy whichever Case knives you decide on. I'm sure you will. Best wishes :)
Thanks for the kind words George. It seems we share the same addiction, still there are worse things to collect right? Best wishes to you mate. Cheers, Mark.
Thanks, glad you liked it.
These traditional designs, really do have that certain something that makes the collecting bug bite! Very pretty knives, excellent review Mark.
@KnifeFanattic Great choice, it really is a stunning colour. You're gonna love it!
@aebbelwoy LOL I know what you mean. What can I say, the knife addcition is taking me to unexpected places. Anyway as I showed six knives that means it only took a little over three minutes per knife. Damn, thats efficient ;-)
Man, you're really digging deep this time. I have yet to discover the fascination of Case Knives, but I sure appreciate your dedication to produce a 20 minute review over such a simple pocket knife. Simple, yet handsome. But still I don't get it. ;-)
Great video Mark. I love the canoe knife. If you get a chance check out the Parker cut Co range of canoes. I have a lovely smooth bone and brass one and a beautiful MOP and nickel silver... They are right up there in my favourite collector knives...
@microgamestation Thanks, glad you liked the vid.
nice vid. I learned a ton. ty
@Nebulax123 Thanks for the advice Bruce, that makes sense about the back spring. I have them on display closed up for safety and because I was concerned about long term wear and loss of spring tension. Thanks for the history too, very interesting to hear this type of thing first hand. Cheers mate :)
Since you say you mostly use only the main blade, you might want to consider carrying the single-bladed, Case Slimline Trapper.
Nice review! (Though it took me a second to figure out what the heck a 'fumm nick' was--didn't realize Australians didn't make the 'th' sound :-)
@nikistef Thanks for spotting that, it's fixed now. One things for sure, I ain't much of a typist lol :)
Nice old world blades I have been waiting for my first case knife to arrive a stag handled ruslock looks like a weird pterodactyl shape but USPS seems to takeforever when you
Gday Mark, not so much you beauty as you bugger, you have just shown me a glimpse of the delicious hell i am letting my self in for,i casually clicked onto stschmalhaus video on his Case collection, next thing i know i am ordering a Canoe,Stockman and Sodbuster from the States, they are indeed things of beauty.Regards from the UK,i have just subbed your channel so will be checking in as time goes...
The Butterbean is yet another one on my list. The list never seems to get shorter for some reason ;)
Going to order a amber bone cv canoe soon
Guus de Jong Good one, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I think so. I'm glad they still make a CV one, I prefer carbon steel over stainless. But I'll probably end up buying a stainless one too, sometimes a stainless knife is better, like on rainy days and in the winter. Also, more handle options.
@sae1095hc I'll check it out, thanks for the idea. But I fear the fleet will continue to grow :)
@floridafyme I know of a one retailer here who has some stock. Like most decent knives, they are expensive here compared to USA.
The blue is drop dead gorgeous, looks much better in real life. Thanks for watching :)
Mine has a Indian in canoe on the blade👌🇺🇸
Also check out Gec knifes if you search Gec knife factory tour you will fine there ch they are a smaller company that only use the old ways of making knives with old equipment. There fit and finish is amazing if you buy one of there knives it like buying a custom Case knife.
Are Case knives available in your country?
LOL, hope I don't go that crazy. Speaking of Case Canoes check out recent vid by WeAllJuggleKnives of the ultimate limited edition version. It's amazing.
Case are awesome, I get a real sense of history and tradition from them. I recently got a Slimline Trapper but have not used it much as yet. It is a real beauty. Thanks for watching and commenting, best wishes to you.
ss stands for surgical stainless
a lot of people call this the butterbean knife.
mr.meredith roper In the Case lineup there is a Butterbean. Much the same design but a smaller knife.
