I’d say when removing dry rust from metal a face mask should be worn, you don’t want to inhale rust particles it’s like fiberglass dust it never leaves your lungs
That Hammered Rustolium is great stuff and lasts a long time. I restored my outdoor house lights with it and it looked better than new and 2 years later in the hot humid Florida sun and they still look great.
when using panel hammer and dolly on chrome ....coat the surfaces with a thin film of grease....it stops the tools from grabbing the chrome and is much easier than wrapping tools.
Did you forget to discuss how you handle the "blemishes" on the chromed surface as mentioned at 2:27 in the video? Maybe I missed that part. Those can be a bugger. I've used Dupont no7 rubbing compound diluted in a bucket of water with a very fine brass cup brush on a small rotary drill. Just dancing the cup brush lightly on the rust. Clean and float in by dabbing chrome paint with a fine artist brush. Let cure and and buff out with a quality chrome polish. Then waxed. Tedious yes but looks passable when complete. Great tips you've shown for the interior bumper.
Maybe I’m not careful enough but I’ve had the best experience with steel wool as recommended here in this video. I do, however, use 0000 and haven’t tried the 000.
Thanks for the information. Doing my interior trim on my 64 impala ss. Like using OG parts and picked up some not so perfect trim. Video definitely helped me decide how to polish it up. 💯
One important point is that modern cars with chrome accents like those on my 2003 Honda Pilot bumper guards which have a chrome finish are only made of plastic. I note this because my wife tried your first fix on our chrome and ruined the bumper accents with steel wool. You should repost this video with a warning not to try that on modern bumpers. She was only trying to get hard water spots off the chrome and I ended up needing to replace those "chromed" plastic parts.
Nice vid. Do you not expect the rust to re emerge from the invisible pin holes in the chrome which is where I am told the original rust blossoms came from? I mean you clean the surface but, the problem is the rust is continuing under the chrome and will eventually pop out and return.
I'm beginning a restore on a Merc 126. Bumper chrome is a bit like the one in your video. Could you please list the various treatments that you used on the Beetle bumper.. My hearing's not great, so missing a few of the names..I got the bit about the 000 wire wool, but other treatments escaped me !!.I'l in Dublin Great video
Some jerk poured some colored liquid on my My Honda Shadow Aero chrome pipes as I parked it. Needless to say, the hot pipes baked whatever it was onto the pipes. In my attempts to clean them, I ended up just scratching them based on several videos on youtube - lastly using 400 grit sandpaper! Big mistake! Should I have been using 2000 grit? How do I get them back to unscratched, shiny chrome?
Oh sure, we can all buff away chrome surface corrosion but my question is , as always, how can you restore chrome when there isn't any. When there are chips of chrome missing or corrosion nodules that won't budge. Rechrome !
How is this channel not bigger? Such good quality in production and information.
I totally agree. Sometimes it just takes time for TH-cam to pick up a video or channel and then it takes off 👍

Thanks for uploading this video. It saved me a fortune restoring the old trim's instead of replacing them 😁
i use cola aluminum foil. I crumple the aluminum foil and drink it with cola. Then I use it to buff away the rust. Then just polish it up and clean.

so you are using steel wool on the chrome side "dry" ? no cleaner or chemical or wd 40 ....just dry?
On the inside of the bumper you need to treat that rust with an acid wash before painting not just paint over the freaking thing .
Great video
Looks good.
is there a way to remove small dents on chrome? It's like a nail mark size?
😮😮😮😮 looks great
put a wire wheel brush in a drill to scrub that rust out of the backside of the bumper
Great video!
What was the spray you first used to clean the bumper?
Instablaster.
Thank you for the good information.

Bob, you can try to smooth out the scratches a bit with the steel wool but I think that damage is done.

He covered that at the beginning, before deciding to rechrome just find out if it's worth it to go that route or just replace it
"Chrome" felt pen or just a silver felt pen? Looks like silver !
Ford Maverick bumpers are $500 a piece. I cried a little inside 🤣
In the video you said you’d speak to dealing with pits. You did not.
👍
Nice !! Just saved my 150 bucks 👍👍 subscription from me my friend
There is only one way to restore chrome pieces, get them re-chromed and save yourself from wasting time.
Hmm, I think it'll cost about that much ($150) to replace my pitted and rusted chromed gear shift selector on the side of my NC750X engine. *sigh*
What spray did you use
To clean the bumper we used GTech Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser spray.
@@ClassicMotorsports honda spray?
This worked great for me! Thank you so much!
Thanks for the tips! 3 year old video but i'm giving some love to my '57 3100
