    the part about walking in heels
    "this is a skill I'm suppose to know as a woman. and im embarrassed that i dont" I'm a man, and that honestly broke my heart

    • @jpachu16
      @jpachu16 3 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      Learning to walk in heels is a steep curve. And painful. But women are expected to know how to wear them. It’s hard to go to dressy events and wear something that’s not heels and still look mature

    • @zvzoomin807
      @zvzoomin807 3 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      I believe you can wear anything you want, men can wear pink, crossdress, women can wear whatever they want, heck I can't last in heels for one minute. It's 2020, we all need to wake up, LGBTQ, Straights, People of color, white people, disabled people, abused people, anyone should be treated the same, and instead of sending death threaths we can try to educate those who don't agree. We are all powerful, and we shall all take pride and stand, not just as people, but as a community. We. Are. The. People. Of. Earth. :D

    • @trekadouble757
      @trekadouble757 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Considering how many different types of heels exist, I personnally think that every woman who has normally shaped heels can find a shape that she likes. Not being able to walk in really high heels is no problem when you realise that there are also kitten heels and intermediate heels.

      Baby Blue, well I'm glad you agree with some of what he's doing as President! And to be honest I don't think he's made the best moral decisions in the past. He actually used to be a Democrat too! He's changed a lot! But in reality all he needs to do for America is he a good President. We didn't elect a pastor. We elected our leader. An nd he's doing a marvellous job! But let's just take a moment to look at the type of person you are. You call our president extremely mean names, and most of what you called him are just not true! You most likely got that information from a fake news source. So you are an immature name caller, a person who doesn't check their facts and gets mislead, and you don't seem to think for yourself. You just do what everyone else is doing and be living how terrible he is. You might be an amazing leader too, but as a person you aren't the best right now.

      I think they're awesome when you let the kids make the artistic choices 👏👏😭 sure there was the usual singing and dancing but
      One of my favorite acts was a kid who brought her dog and showed us all of the tricks she trained him to do. It was cute and so funny.
      There was also a little girl who did stand up 😂💀🤷‍♂️ I wasn't ready for that lol. You could always tell when the child had thought of their talent act vs. When an adult did lol

    As a female who has struggled with weight, and height, and seeing other women my age looking amazing and being small and tall. This video helped me. It showed that not everyone has the "perfect body" and no one is perfect to society. I saw another video showing how the social standard changed. It changes almost every 10 years. First people want a butt no boobs, then boobs no butt, then a thicker girl, then a smaller girl, and then they want boobs and butt. Social standards change ALL the time. You aren't the problem the world is. ❤

    I do a pageant called NAM (national american miss) it’s different, it’s not a beauty pageant, u get judged on 4 things
    1-community service
    2-personal introduction
    3-interviews
    4- formal wear. (you get judged on the confidence that you walk not the look)
    the girls are so nice and so many people that look so different have won (ex- latinex, plus sized, very skinny, African American, Indian, Vietnamese are some i’ve seen)
    makeup is not allowed or tall heels and neither is swimsuits. they make it very clear that it is not a beauty pageant and u can even look on the judging rubric and see none of it has to do with looks, it all centers sound confidence

    I think, people who judge pageants kind of dismiss the hard work all these women invest in preparation and their lifestyles in general. No one becomes fit, confident, accomplished, well-kept, etc. overnight. Even this video required a high level of determination and intentionality! These are things to be admired and celebrated in anyone! There are strong ethics and values motivating people to compete. Instead of seeing the judging as negative, I think it’s helpful to see the pageantry in general as a celebration of all the things these women are collectively, and then one becomes a favorite and an ambassador to represent them all. Win or lose, it’s not like they go home without the value they came with. These are high value individuals highlighting their skills, networking, and ambitiously making gains within their communities.

    During the ‘20’s, when beauty pageants where first started, it was considered a feminist statement to participate. Society was coming out of the Victorian/Edwardian era where women were expected to be demure and quiet. They were not supposed to seek attention, show off their bodies, or speak their minds. To enter a pageant ,then, was bucking that mindset. However, as society changed to see these things as normal, acceptable, and even expected the pageants were no longer an example of women empowering themselves and are viewed as outdated and opposing feminism. The thing is, feminism is supposed to be about women being able to be and do whatever they want without hinderances based on gender. That means it should be just as acceptable for a woman to be in a pageant if she chooses to be as it is for her to join the military or be CEO of a large cooperation.

  • @kath.5494
    @kath.5494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    As someone who competes in pageants VERY similar to these pageants, let me tell you what it’s all about.
    -The pageants aren’t focused on outer beauty, the whole idea of dressing up in a pretty dress or a bikini (which the swim suit section has been taken out) is to show that you have enough self esteem to be able to strut out there and be confident. Because these girls are almost always mentors to younger girls, we have to be confident in ourselves, before we can encourage other girls to be confident in themselves.
    -this video is a bit outdated, but pageants have gotten much better at including different body types, and different races, I am Chinese, and ive never seen any Chinese person hold a title, but not many East Asians compete in the state’s so, someone has to be the first one right? It teaches your to be a leader, and to set new standards more inclusive ones, that inspire other girls, older and younger.
    -the majority of your score is not how “good you look” in a fancy dress, (even tho we have already established, that’s it’s about self esteem and confidence, not beauty) in fact the majority of your score goes to your private interview, where you can finally display how intelligent you are, and how much research you have done on your platform (or the thing in your community you want to improve) it allows girls to show their intelligence, which because of the sexist world we live in, we don’t get that opportunity very much.
    -pageant queen must live a HEALTHY not, “skinny lifestyle” but a healthy life style, which is what we should all shoot for in general, health is no joke. And since these girls are meant to be good role models, meaning we need to live a healthy lifestyle.
    -what the media shows you is just the bikinis and catty girls. People don’t understand the work that goes behind it. Not just the physical training, but also doing work (that you are not paid to do, you not paid at all in this) in your community. And yes before you ask me, catty girls have definitely slipped though the cracks of pageantry, but that with almost every kind of community, I’ve had cattier girls in my church than in pageantry.
    -in general, pageantry (if you get the right kind of pageantry) can be a great way for a girl to get a scholarship, display her intelligence on current issues, and will be great if you wanna do really any kind of job, because being able to to something this huge, is such an honor and takes such courage.

    i did a pageant in middle school cause i was really self conscious and my mom signed me up for the local pageant i won 3rd place and i gained so much confidence. So yes pageants can be controversial and drama filled but not all of them are. Obviously since middle school ive gotten older but the fact that made it to top 3 has to this day been on of my biggest self worth accomplishments. So pageants are empowering but there are pageants like ms usa that are controversial and sexist. Everything depends on your mind set and the pageant you put ur self through.

    An Acquaintance of mine, Tara Teng, entered and won Miss. Canada several years ago. She didn't do it because she wanted to win a beauty pageant. She entered because she was heart broken about human trafficking in Canada and wanted to change what was happening. No one knew what was happening, most people were oblivious to it. So she saw the pageant as a platform to voice the problem and create change. In the year that followed her title major changes started making way in Canada for human trafficking in prostitution, to protect and help victims, and create harsher punishments to those of are responsible. And the changes are still coming. She was the voice that made the first wave.

      The problem I have with it is that theyre supposed to be a rolemodel but then the trainer says nothing can even jiggle (which is almost impossible, bodies jiggle!) and a contestant needs to be able to walk on heels and be pretty. I understand nailing something like that feels awesome, but I feel like it shows that some girls arent good enough for this and thats BS.

    Here's the thing about pageants. If pageants were truly empowering, about public speaking, and public good, then there would be no age caps on who's eligible, women with kids would be able to compete, older women would be able to compete, Fiona with the glasses and a mole on her face would be able to compete. To say that is empowering, to filter out women from scholarships and charity work simply for the way that she looks is not a good message to send to our kids. This is not me saying that people that participate in pageants are dumb or that pageants didn't give them a positive experience. But if we look at the net affect pageants have on women(the majority of women), I can say definitively it leaves a negative mark.

    • @itsbritneybisch8552
      @itsbritneybisch8552 5 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Here's the thing about competition. THERE ARE CRITERIA YOU HAVE TO MEET IN ORDER TO JOIN! Would you allow a kid in a wheelchair to join the NBA? How about a 4ft, 90lb man join the NFL? Seems to me people like you are only bitter that you don't qualify, so therefore whatever contest you're not qualified in is obviously sexist, misogynistic, ageist, et al. Lastly, it's not the contest's job to teach your kids what's right and wrong. It's YOUR job as a parent. Don't pass on your responsibilities and insecurities to others.

    • @TheCreativeZombie
      @TheCreativeZombie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +107

      Sorry 'It's Britney Bisch', but that is kind of a backwards comment. "kid in a wheelchair to join the NBA", that child would be physically unable to compete against 6ft men whereas a woman with a few extra pounds or a mole on her face is not unable to walk down a runway in a gown or do charity work and social events.

    • @karinadavis1353
      @karinadavis1353 5 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      @@TheCreativeZombie I agree. Especially with the whole kids thing and older women thing. Women can be pageant material and still have kids or be older. That has nothing to do with the competition (saying it's not a teen or child pageant in the way of age). Also, you shouldn't punish women for wanting to have kids or *gasp* growing older or having moles! It's just too superficial to be a completely positive influence.

      M like she said, about the subject of the person age, height, weight, and relationship status. It could be because the winner travels a lot, they go to different events that requires the winner to do certain activities, like standing for long periods of times, or even being a host to a event. there are times where they have to stay out late for interviews or other things that they are involved in. I’m Not saying that girls over a certain age are to old to join, because i agree with that part about anyone should be able to join, it shouldn’t matter how old they are or if they are in a relationship but a lot of the times she is going to be traveling, and having a family at home might effect her duties as the winner. And it might result to her losing the crown. When you win a crown the judges aren’t looking at your face, they are listening to your answer. Which is most important.
