Hey guys! Ballet teacher here! DO NOT DO POINTE WITHOUT TRAINING. Michelle, thank you for putting in that disclaimer. It's super important. Did you see how she hand to ice her ankles after just that short time? You REALLY CAN BREAK your FEET if your muscles are not trained to support yourself. Please please please. This includes people doing cosplay. DONT GO EN POINTE just for pictures. I've watched too many injuries from people. It's not about 'being careful' is about your body being strong enough. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
I completely agree. I've been doing ballet for 10yrs now and I still obtain muscle and joint injuries from pointe and for people without ANY practise attempt it you will hurt yourself
This is exactly what went through my head in the first 10 seconds of this video. Watched it through to the end because of the suspense of ”will she get injured???”....
PREACH. Im not as experienced as you, but I am a ballet dancer of 10 years, 3 years on pointe and it makes me cringe to see people in movies and these types of videos go straight on to pointe with little to no training
four little swans is literally so hard. when we performed it, we had to rehearse non-stop for two months to get it perfect. big props to michelle for even attempting it
I feel sorry for her boyfriend. It seem like she only had confidence when a man was involve. Seem like the typical woman that only have self love if a man hold her hand or approve of her.
@@EricaEarth I don’t think that was really it. As a ballet dancer myself, I can say with confidence that dancing with a partner, man or woman, you feel a lot more comfortable and confident. It may seem like something else, but it’s honestly just amazing to dance with someone. It also nice when you know that the person youre dancing with, thinks you’re good, and that also gives you a lot of self-boost and confidence.
@@Dressing2impress key word: you said man or woman. But she been dancing with up to four other women at the same time but she still lack confident. She have low self esteem and think men are above her.
You weren’t an embarrassment to the ballet community AT ALL. Actually, you showed how much time and effort and pain we go through every day. Also, you did amazing at the recital, I can’t believe that only took you 6 weeks of training.
ok but that girl teaching and laughing with her seems so beautiful inside and out..like it was so sweet to watch how excited she was every time Michelle lowkey popped out
I honestly think this was her hardest challenge accepted. She really wanted to do right by the ballet community and not make it a joke or mock them. Which I found very big of her. She wanted to do it right.
Actually, its really Heard to learn ballet. But I thinks IT was the figure skating the hardest. But both are similar and diffirent. The Biggest thing in ballet is probably the pointe its kinda scary and painful but for skating its the general fear and all the technical Physics like spins speed. Im a figure skater, i dont mean that my sport is harder but it is the fear and also i did ballet and i couldnt handle it🤣(im adhd and very energetic and very impatient. As a kid especially.) But yeah master anything is hard. If she Do a episode on music( learning a instruments) i definetely thing IT Will be one if the hardest. But the Biggest things in both sports and any(but not all) is muscles memory, your body wont Do what you want if you dont repeat even if you know perfectly How.
I don’t like how people think ballet is easy because it’s not and honestly like it’s so hard. My dance studio is close to a shopping mall so a bunch of people walk by every day mocking us and I get super annoyed. Like I’ve already been there for three hours and it’s 9:00 at night and people think it’s so hard. Do people treat people who train for soccer 4 hours a day like that? Do they mock them by pretending to kick a ball. I get mocked by people who put their arms up and say wow that’s so easy, haha. It’s not, u can’t just put ur arms up. U have to have an angle ur arms are at. Ur elbow have to be in front of ur face but not too far in front. Ur hands have to be elegant and not like ur holding a hamburger. Suck in ur belly, put ur shoulders down, don’t hunch ur back, straitened ur knees, turn out ur legs and ur feet, and so much more. And that’s just one position, there’s so many more, like hundreds! And I have to memorize the French names too. ITS NOT EASY!!! I’m not saying u think it’s easy btw. Just venting my anger lol.
zeustine I definitely agree with you!! I’m a professionally trained ballet dancer and I do figure skating as a hobby and I can say that figure skating is much much more challenging 🤣
As a ballet dancer I think that this is incredible how you you managed to do all of this in only 6 weeks I’ve been doing dance for 7 years and I really appreciate how you show that ballet is very serious and a hard sport to learn. Also love you and your commitment
The main russian woman who used to be a ballerina narrating the video is fucking amazing. There’s just something about her whole demeanor and intent in her voice that is so admirable and demanding of respect, while still remaining humble at the same time. Love people like that. Also the girl teaching her was so sweet and patient, she did an amazing job coaching Michelle through this whole experience.
DoubleTrouble Oh, I thought she looked familiar! Now I have to rewatch ‚Flesh and Bones‘ 😄 Freaking amazing show. I was so bummed, they didn’t do a second season.
"I trained like a professional ice figure skating" PLEASE edit: WATCH TESSA VIRTUE AND SCOTT MOIR PERFORM MOLIN ROUGE 2018 OLYMPICS. you can thank me later. edit 2: SHE IS DOING IT GUYS. WE WON. I’LL SEE YOU WHEN THE VIDEO COMES OUT
I have been doing ballet for 10 years and everyone that hasn’t done it claims that it’s easy because of how effortless we make it look. So thank you for making a video that shows other people a glimpse of how hard it really is and how physically and mentally draining it can be, but also how rewarding.
Rylee Dzienis brooooo like finally somebody gets it lolll. I wanna see somebody make up a 20 second combo whole raising their leg to their head with no assistance on their toes while needing to be flexible correct positioning and following ur arm with ur headddd like broooo it’s not easy like she said we make it look easy. You need to have strength in ur arms and squeeze ur legs and abs while smiling and easing ur chin and taking corrections from ur teacher and trying to fix them all at once. Edit: You also have to perfect this and preform this all on stage by a certain time or u look insane in front of a bunch of people!!!
Yeah I remember when I was a kid, people asked me what sports I do, I said Ballet, and they are like, "Ballet is not a sport, you don't even sweat doing it" I'm like, "You have no idea"
Rylee Dzienis sameeee I hv danced for 10 yrs, ppl think it’s SUPER easy and I honestly get super pissed that they think this lowly of ballet, they don’t know the pain we go thru
it's nice to see a youtuber actually genuinely try and genuinely connect to ballet. too often you see people mocking ballet, calling it easy, discrediting, and seeing it as no more than a funny video where they flail around for a few minutes. the fact that michelle wanted to do it right, acknowledged the work we put in, and connected so well to not just the technique but also emotion that goes with dancing. it was a breath of fresh air compared to what you see on youtube. thank you for this! - ballerina
Really? I've never heard people say it's easy. They would obviously have to be clueless people though who know nothing about the dance world. Surely you would ignore such ignorant comments and move on.
Not sure I've ever seen a single person think it was easy -- pretentious maybe, but never easy. I think most people put in in the same category as fencing, polo, or rowing -- its a sport for people who'll never understand people like you. This too is unfair -- but I can't imagine anyone thinking its easy. - doesn't know the first thing about dance of any sort
The professionals make it look so easy and effortless...their bodies look like the just bounce around and float through the air. Lots of respect for them.
as a ballerina, i really appreciate how you told everyone how difficult this art is, not many people have respect for what we do and you really showed everyone all the hard work that goes into it. thanks
I makes me so annoyed because I’m on pointe and people are like it’s so easy why are you complaining. Uhhh excuse me when was the last time you went home with black toes😂😂
avery m I have also been doing ballet since I was five and I love how she has shown how hard it is to do when people think that it is easy to do ballet
Your stage presence is wonderful. For someone who never danced you did great for 6 weeks. I am a long time dancer who taught and choreographed and though your technique wasn’t perfect (whose would be after only 6 weeks of ever dancing?) you did great. You looked comfortable on stage and wow the partner dance! You really told a story with that and I can’t get over how you didn’t come off a bit nervous. It’s like you’ve been performing on stage for some time. I hope you’ll continue dancing.
@@samanthasilly8 I didn't say ballet is the most underrated thing in the world, I said it is one of the most underrated things. You also just said, baton twirling is the most underrated thing, and then said "It is almost as hard as ballet", going against what you said before. You first say baton twirling is harder, then you say ballet is harder
omg haha, im a figure skating and seeing how well she did with this i bet the could do like a pretty ok program within 6 weeks! it would be super cool to see !
I really like how this video demonstrates JUST how hard ballet is. The contrast between the professional dancers and someone as dedicated, talented, and focused as Michelle was extremely striking, which I think is a really good way of getting the point across. Kudos to Michele!
Ok so I’m a ballerina and I’m honestly so glad that she actually took the time to under stand the art form and not just try and do “ ballet moves “ Michelle actually put effort into this an didn’t do it just for views Honestly so proud of you Michelle 👍🤗😊
24:00 "I'm being judged right now". Evaluation is different than judgment, for evaluation seeks to recognize your unique value, at all times in a process, whereas judgment is hierarchical seeking to find the error or loss of your essential esteemed character and overlook fortitude, or grace. Girl, you're invaluable! Kudos to you!!
Ik this comment is from a year ago but this just made evaluations seem SO MUCH LESS SCARY everytime i was evaluated at college (performing arts) id panic, but this comment has helped me feel so much more comfortable with the idea
As a dancer, I’m honest when I say you did SO GOOD. I’m amazed at how much you learned in such a short time. I watched your pas de dues and I was cheering on like YES QUEEN.
MelodySongLee well there for me it was just stretching every single day. Like by just putting you leg at a higher level stretches out the hamstring. Also putting a block under your foot stretches your split. Just time yourself for one minute and then take the block away. It works like magic., (I know you didn’t ask for my opinion but I thought it would help 😊)
I am not sure how your video found my feed today , but I enjoyed this so much! You my dear are an absolute ROCK STAR in my opinion! I am 53 and an artist self taught metalsmith and jewelry designer. I've always wanted to take ballet and many times looked into local beginning ballet classes for adults. You JUST now have inspired me to take the next step and go for it. I am a cancer survivor and addict in recovery 4 years now. Thank you beautiful lady for doing this and inspiring me. You are a beautiful dancer, thank you.
This comment truly made me emotional. This is so beautiful and it's wonderful how people of all ages can start doing this amazing thing called ballet. I took a few ballet classes when I was at the age of 7, I think. I idolised ballet because of Barbie, but through the years I started to recognise the true beauty of it. I wish I didn't quit ballet back then. I know it's still not too late, but I'm just so stiff. I want to start ballet again, but in order to do that I have to work REALLY hard on my flexibility. I hope that everyone who wants to start something new later in life or with a hard journey keep doing what they want. Art comes in many forms and we get to decide what kind of art we want to enjoy, even if we are older then usual or we don't fit in with the usual expectations and requirements.
I am also 53 and take my ballet lessons on TH-cam. You will cramp where you didn’t know you had muscles. Don’t force the plies or turnout, watch your joints. But I know you will find strength.
I have been dancing for 8 years now (as a child taking class when not in school, im not professional) and it has always been there for me. It's a really physical art form which lets me express everything. I hope ballet helps you as much as it helps me and also, you have an awesome career, it's so cool, have fun!
@@lockheart619 coming up on 11 years, but my sister, who dances at the same company, has been dancing for 18. To learn this much in 6 weeks is pretty nuts.
That made me cry with joy. I was a professional, international choreographer for 25 years. Lady, you did magnificently! Your duet was a thing of rare beauty. And you know what? You pulled off your ballet runs brilliantly! Non-dancers don’t realise how difficult such a simple-looking task really is. You even managed a half-decent arabesque line while being promenaded by your partner. You’ve a smile to melt the hardest heart. I think you’re fantastic! I doubt there’s a professional dancer on the planet who’d think otherwise. Six weeks? Massive round of applause! Bravo! 😊 x
@@annikagreen8455 I started ballet last year and I'm 12, and now this year I'm going to do ballet still, and jazz and acro And I think you will do good 👍
@@annikagreen8455 some professionals, e.g Misty Copeland who started at 13, started later then that, so I think you’ll do great! Also, you are likely strong and probably have some idea of the technique because of gymnastics, so I think you’ll do awesome!
As a dancer and ballerina I think that you were being very respectful and what you did in 6 weeks is absolutely amazing! I really hope this video helps people understand that ballet is more than a sport. It is mentally and physically challenging. What you did is absolutely incredible! Thank you!!!❤
I'm so glad you were surrounded by dancers who made it fun. I know from experience not everyone makes it that way. Thanks for sharing this special art form.
Ikr. The reason I left ballet was because the teachers were literally insulting us as lazy unflexible brats when we couldn't do a split at 7 years old.
I also appreciate how you did research firsthand for this....however, don’t be so hard on yourself. There is NO WAY anyone could gain proper technique in 6 weeks to dance ballet. It takes YEARS of barre and center work technique to be able to dance ballet. I’m glad that you had this experience✨
I agree. I am not a professional since I only did it for four years in high school, but it made me appreciate the work professional ballerinas do to maintain their craft. The audience can see ballet as effortless, but anyone who has taken ballet can understand the struggle it takes to look effortless.
Angelique Cheung definitely! I was practically raised in a ballet studio. I was considered young when I started doing pointe work and I’m glad I started young rather then older. It’s hell on your body to look effortless on stage.
I love that she really shows how hard ballet is. Everything always needs to be perfect and it is soooo stressful to be a ballerina, yet some people say that it’s not a sport. Try standing on the tip of your toes while jumping and dancing, then we can talk. I also appreciate how respectful she is to the ballet community.
Michelle. I want to tell you I've watched all of your challenge accepted videos and you have truly inspired me. I am 21 years old, I've been a drug addict since I was 11 and currently 6 months clean. I have this belief that I am not capable of having a career, or doing anything with my life. Seeing your videos, stepping out of your comfort zone and actually doing a fantastic job, and being a woman truly inspires me. Thank you for this. Maybe I can do something constructive with my life.
You’ve got this! I used to have a ton of anxiety and an ED, I started ballet @ 12 and it helped me sooo much, find some physical activity (because endorphins) and find some u time. I’m rooting for u girly! So proud 💕❤️
Im a 15 yr old dancer who has become a way more serious dancer this past year and ive got so much better at it over so much training. Its so interesting to see someone try it out and really show how hard it is. She did great for only 6 weeks
As a ballet dancer myself, this is incredibly impressive. I've been dancing for around 11 years now and seeing her growth in those 6 weeks, especially in the pas de deux, is absolutely insane. I started modern about 3 years ago, so I'm not the best either, but DAMN! She made as much progress in that contemporary style as I made in a year! She has the performance aspect of it down, and that's something a lot of dancers struggle with. Round of applause to her! I love this video because a lot of my friends don't understand the level of intensity that the ballet I study is at. It's like they think all I do is skip around in a circle and do a few leg lifts. This video displays the pain yet beauty in it perfectly.
I kinda wanna do ballet but am not sure about going on Pointe when am ready I wanna do it but just seeing Michelle attempt the pointe looks painful so idk the Pointe looks fun but but hard
@@SilentCrimsonOx yes it is hard but very worth it once you start to get the hang of it though it takes getting used to the pain and gaining strength in your feet to do it really
@@SilentCrimsonOx Of you start ballet and you still don’t want to do point but your teacher tells you to go on point you can tell her that you are not comfortable doing it and like to stay on flat. A good teacher will not force you to do point and there are a lot of stuff you can master on flat that would take way longer to master on point
As a dancer for seventeen years, I'm really impressed. It takes a LIFETIME and you never perfect it, really. 6 weeks is a short time and your technique got so much better. You didn't disappoint the dance community at all!! Proud of you, kid.
@@larattacattolica2351 just because it’s a show doesn’t mean it’s impossible. It’s probably easier for her since she had classes as a child, has done various dance and athletic skills on her channel. But the point is to show that you can be anything you put your mind to. That doesn’t change because she has experience
@@larattacattolica2351 For a Catholic FEMALE fighting against abuse (My Father was brutalized), your comment was very unfriendly! No wonder the OP deleted her comment. She was embarrassed away. *Experience has nothing to do with ability.*
I find it very interesting that ballet is one of the most graceful things you can do or see, yet it can cause so much pain to its performers. What's also interesting is that I always see these videos with older students relearning ballet, and their teachers are always kind and patient. Makes me wonder why the kids in ballet are never treated like this, with patience and understanding for their lack of skill, memory, whatever.
As a ballerina I was very excited to watch this video! I get very mad when people make fun of ballet or underestimate what dancers can do. The amount of work and respect you put into this is amazing! Your emotions during your dancing was amazing! You always had your head up and you were always smiling. I am really proud of you!! Well done! Xx Edit: Thank you SO much for all the likes!! Also thanks Michelle for hearting, I am glad you saw this! Xx
@@polinazotova1154 As I said, I am not a dancer but, it's so sad when people underestimate ballet! It's so beautiful, and it demands perfection, and such great strength and coordination! Hands down to all the dancers out there! You have my respect!
As a ballet dancer myself seeing this was amazing. For me, dancing is not about perfect technique but about channeling emotion and you really did that. Your expressions and faces were amazing, really incredible. I hope you keep on dancing. Not necessarily ballet but just dance. You did this art form justice
I’m a dancer and I very much appreciate how you are very see-through with the whole video you weren’t trying to sugarcoat anything because I competition dance I do dance three days a week and practice at home every day week sometimes I’ll even walk around practicing my dances. I love how you didn’t make anything looks super easy because it isn’t.
I have been loving ballet for months and after watching this challenge I realized that ballerina is a fully committed responsibility you should hold. Instead, I expressed my love of ballet in a Contemporary form and I feel joy incorporating it with ballet.
I'm a dancer and have been one since I was 3. Most people who talk about ballet say "it's so easy and it's so boring" but really it's extremely hard and this genre tells a story. I love how she actually showed how hard it is and how much commitment you have to put into the art of dance.
I don’t dance anymore ( I rlly only danced for like a couple years when I was young) but I still find ballet really interesting and elegant and beautiful and I really appreciate the hard work that does into the art
This comment is underrated. This is so true, as ballet is probably one of the most difficult sports/art out there. I'm a beginner, and just learning how to do a pirouette is hard enough. Let alone the Dance of The Four Swans.
I have huge respect for ballerinas. I used to do ballet, but quit. Everytime I watch someone dance to ballet I’m like, how tf did they do that without collapsing halfway through.
I took ballet for 15 years. Michelle, what you did in ONLY 6 weeks is very impressive!! Congratulations on a job well done!! Side note: I'm SO glad the people training her didn't try to put her en pointe for the performance.
I love how well you show how hard ballet is because so many people are always saying how its not a sport and you are so respectful about it in show how is actually is
me too, it's inspirational to see how someone can learn so fast how to dance. She shows everyone, that if you work hard enough for it, you can a reach everything you want. Like I want to become a professional singer, and I thought for a moment I couldn't do it, because I'm not good enough. But she showed me that if you want it, you can do it. Sorry for the long story but I had to say this.
Alison is an angel. Wow. That grace, that patience. If there was ever a person to get an adult "up to speed" on an extremely difficult art form, it's her.
@@AlisonStroming I completely agree with the above, this is exactly what I thought too - Alison you are a very genuine, accepting and encouraging person, and that makes learning possible for students of all ages and levels. This is something that can't be learned from books or workshops, you seem to be naturally good at bringing the best out of your students. Really good job. 🙏
As a ballet dancer myself I am sooo impressed! You have such natural light and ease on the stage and are an absolute joy to watch! Can’t believe you learnt all of that in such a small amount of time as well. You should be so proud of yourself! I really admire how you throw yourself into all of these challenges and do so so well- it really is a testament to your character 💕
simisimi9 if you look at the Swan Lake’s pas de quatre (which is one of the most iconic and hard ones), it was just mind blowing. Her musicality and her strength were astonishing. Obviously there were a bunch of mistakes and things that could be done better by experienced dancers, but in six weeks she’s done so much!
She was scared of people saying she was bad, but in the end, she created something so beautiful that we were smiling too hard to say anything, as if we would.
Michelle me personally as a boy ballerina, everyone told not to do it because it’s “gay” and when I performed and if I mess up, I act like nothing happened because I always tell myself “so what!” And you will guaranteed succeed. Go Michelle!
As a dancer, I love seeing people who are are unfamiliar with dance try it. To me and most dancers: barre, conditioning and learning choreography becomes so routine and we just get used to how tough mentally and physically it is but now seeing someone else do it, makes it looks so much more intense. It makes me feel kinda badass tbh
I attended a ballet classes when i was 5 years old an im very regretful that i didin't continue to do it. Im 13 now i wanna start again but i can't even do a bridge and my mom doesn't let me do it. I took my first ballet class at 26 years old, and did a recital after just a couple months. I was also with all teens (who weren't great, but still). I was really nervous for the recital, BUT I went out on stage and just pretended I was the most beautiful ballerina in the world and it was SO FUN! it was an experience I never got as a child. @@terrikahan8245 Never feel self-conscious about being the oldest in class, it doesn't mean a thing!! Think about this: since you have already had classes in the past, you'll pick it up faster than the younger people learning it for the first time too!!
What did you guys think about the ending? :) The final pas de deux dance is my favorite part of this video 💖 PS be sure to follow me on IG! I’m posting lotsss of behind the scenes today that didn’t make it into the video!!
That pas de deux was so beautiful!!! I got goosebumps. The emotion on your face just looked so genuine, and that's one of the hardest things for dancers to learn!
You are such a wonderful representative for people who are older trying to pursue ballet and honestly it’s amazing how much progress you made in just 6 weeks
....Woah. The partner dance literally made me cry. It showed such a vulnerable side, so beautiful and intimate and it almost felt like I was an intruder, I bystander who was watching something so private and special. Well done. Truly. I am in tears.
As a dancer, I would never be offended if you weren’t even half as good as u were at the end. As long as u showed the athleticism, endurance, and complexity of a ballerina, I am impressed. Great job btw! 💗
LOVED WATCHING THIS. I cried… I’m a dancer myself and this video really shows how much struggle comes before a pretty show, what dancing means and what it feels like. I’m grateful for you taking the time to dive into a dancers perspective. I’m extremely proud and amazed of how you’ve done all of this in just 6 weeks. You looked amazing, especially your smile. Dancing is about ‘being perfect-ish’ yes, but also really not. You were YOU, in my opinion that is the final touch that makes it magic. Much love for you and what you do❤️
I think Michelle's type of teacher is more nurturing, but i think you need a mix of both- kindness and technique My teacher is like that and she's taught me so much
That's what I thought. I took very little ballet when I was younger and yet when I started taking at an academy I was told I could start on pointe because of my foot/ankle strength even with the little ballet that I had prior. Which I thought was a little weird.
THANK. YOU. Dancers train for years before moving to pointe; your ankles and feet have to be strong enough to carry your entire body weight. You can seriously injure yourself if youre not developed enough to pointe work. They also hurt like a MF'r
Good for you. An absolutely remarkable achievement over the course of 6 weeks, hats off. I love how you didn't forget to smile on stage and how you embraced to concept of performing, performing, no matter what. You are beautiful.
I was actually a ballerina but my teacher left to the Philippines so I didn't get to do ballet anymore now I can't even do my splits anymore and I was so flexible not anymore 🙁😞
As a ballet dancer of 15 years and en pointe 8 years, I have to say I was impressed! I really appreciate you putting in 100% effort and showing the true strength and pain behind the beauty of ballet...solos, being cohesive, quickly learning choreography, dancing en pointe, just ballet in general. Thank you for sharing this video and please continue to produce this series. It’s always great to see someone conquer their fears and just go for trying something new. Edit: Just re-watched the pas de deux contemporary number. It was so beautiful and you could see and feel the connection between the two of you and the emotion you were conveying. That is difficult to do in person, let alone watching through a screen. I would really encourage you to continue dancing; whether that is ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz...you have the musicality and the ability to convey emotion through your dancing, and it was beautiful to watch.
Being a ballet dancer since I was two, I can vouch that ballet is extremely hard. Every finger is placed, every joint must be perfect. I was very impressed
I have danced ballet since I was 3 years old which is 10 years of training and I just started point and you did it all in 6 weeks of training. ballet is extremely challenging and you did amazing!!!! Great job👏
I clapped at your Little Swans and I really got immersed in your partner dance. I've been training ballet for 2.5 years now as as adult. I don't think I could pull off the cygnets and I definitely wouldn't have the confidence to do what you did. Congrats, really impressive 🎉
Can you please do a training like a pro/elite cheerleader please! Love you! 💖 Edit: omg thx to the the 1.3 K who liked it with all the likes she might actually do it!
I was a figure skater in my youth and it is something I'd love to get back into.. or at least get the basics down again. :) Bringing that child joy back into my life!
From one dancer to another (and you can call yourself a dancer now), you did amazingly well. Ballet is hard, so hard. But you nailed the hardest part of all: the mental hurdles. And you came alive in that pas de deux. Modern ballet suits you well, and I hope you keep dancing, because the joy in that piece was palpable through the screen. Thank you for being respectful to our art, and to opening yourself up to it with a full heart. You were beautiful on stage, and your work in the studio is something you should be very proud of. Toi toi toi!
Alex Mirov I can agree I am also a dancer and ballet is a lot harder than most people think. Some people think that ballet is easy but when people think that I just say “ why don’t you try it then “
I am a dancer and sometimes I forget why I dance I dance to show a story to let go of my feelings and you did that all, you did so good and thank you for reminding me of why I dance.

I've been a dancer for 11 years now and I'm 15. Ballet has been a part of my life as long as I can remember myself. Kids at my school had no idea how hard and challenging this art truly is and made fun of it all the time. Thank you for representing ballet in a great way and showing the real struggles that come with it. People who haven't tried it have no idea who difficult it is both physically and mentally!!
@@ichikaakiyama3854 I'm pretty flexible anyway so for me it wasn't that hard. But I would say that all you can do is stretch on a daily basis. And stretch after every class for like 10 minutes or so. But be positive and patient, these things takes time.

Grace I did competitive cheerleading for this school year and it was NOT easy I had to handle being thrown up in the air locking every part of my body remember the routine and smile. Cheerleading is dangerous if you don’t practice enough and can even have a broken body part and we don’t want to put Michelle threw that. Not trying to hate I just want her to be safe.
Reatrea is that why you do Demi-pointe first and your ballet teacher will decide and test you when you can move to pointe?
@@ellahall8739 exactly. Demi point builds the muscles. Demi point is mandatory for point unless you wanna Ice your broken ankles.
PREACH. Im not as experienced as you, but I am a ballet dancer of 10 years, 3 years on pointe and it makes me cringe to see people in movies and these types of videos go straight on to pointe with little to no training
I’m a dancer and I appreciate you showing how HARD dance really is

The partner dance was so beautiful. The emotion in her face. I was moved to tears. This is so incredible

I honestly think this was her hardest challenge accepted. She really wanted to do right by the ballet community and not make it a joke or mock them. Which I found very big of her. She wanted to do it right.
Beggin4theBEAT yes I totally agree! Also as a dancer myself, it is actually really hard! Especially since she is already getting point shoes!
Russians say in such cases: I wanted to do it right , but it turned out as always (stupid and funny)
zeustine I definitely agree with you!!

Rylee Dzienis yes ballet and dance is so hard but when people look at it it’s so easy and when they try it it’s the hardest thing
I don't do ballet but i know hard it is
it's nice to see a youtuber actually genuinely try and genuinely connect to ballet. too often you see people mocking ballet, calling it easy, discrediting, and seeing it as no more than a funny video where they flail around for a few minutes. the fact that michelle wanted to do it right, acknowledged the work we put in, and connected so well to not just the technique but also emotion that goes with dancing. it was a breath of fresh air compared to what you see on youtube. thank you for this!

Wow, I wish you much luck on your journey!!
That’s wonderful
I have been dancing for 8 years now (as a child taking class when not in school, im not professional) and it has always been there for me. It's a really physical art form which lets me express everything. I hope ballet helps you as much as it helps me and also, you have an awesome career, it's so cool, have fun!

Definitely! I’ve been dancing ballet for 11 years and 5 years on pointe, my teachers get mad if our pointe shoes aren’t tied and sown right!
So true, I started ballet when I was 2, and it was hard to be able to be on point and then once I was on point it was almost like starting over again.
Grace Willans yep, I’ve been dancing on pointe for 5 years and it was like learning a whole new style of dance!
The partner dance made her look like she’s been doing this for years!
The pas de deux was cool
Tiffany Edwards true
Exactly! In the first dance, it was really obvious that she is new to ballet but the second and third one looked mutch better

Im a 15 yr old dancer who has become a way more serious dancer this past year and ive got so much better at it over so much training. Its so interesting to see someone try it out and really show how hard it is. She did great for only 6 weeks
Im a retired professional dancer and you my dear, are an inspiration! 6 weeks, wow
As also a ballet dancer who also has been dancing for 11 years I completely agree
I think it's classical ballet.

Like I want to become a professional singer, and I thought for a moment I couldn't do it, because I'm not good enough. But she showed me that if you want it, you can do it. Sorry for the long story but I had to say this.
You're wrong, I did not ALMOST cry, I lost it... That last dance got me...
Same here ...
Me too she was into it!

Alison is an angel. Wow. That grace, that patience. If there was ever a person to get an adult "up to speed" on an extremely difficult art form, it's her.
omomoification wow thank you so much!! That means so much!!
"-how do I say "go" in ballet words?
- umm... 5, 6, 7, 8"
THAT IS SO DAMN TRUE
Ewa W. Nope it’s Da dat dap da dum
@@theqnews8613 is it tho? Maybe depends on the style you're dancing, but the "5, 6, 7, 8" is just... It's always there.
Its the same in Bangladeshi folk dance from and in Indian classical dance form. I think in all types of dance forms..
Ewa W. Heck yeah. Five, six, seven, eight..
Sooo true... I can still remember it when I was a ballerina😂😂
She should actually continue ballet. She’s done amazing!
I hope Michelle reads this!

@@simisimi9
Shut up 😚
simisimi9 if you look at the Swan Lake’s pas de quatre (which is one of the most iconic and hard ones), it was just mind blowing. Her musicality and her strength were astonishing. Obviously there were a bunch of mistakes and things that could be done better by experienced dancers, but in six weeks she’s done so much!
simisimi9 why she was a beautiful dancer
Sameeeee
Barre* Sorry I was getting annoyed at that lol, but I totally agree!
Yeah, right?

Ahhh my apologies
@@jademiao9580 Its fine! I was more saying to help then be rude! Xx
When she said “A lot of people try ballet but they eventually quit... I was one of those people” girl same
lmfao me too
I lidderly quit this month after 13 years
I attended a ballet classes when i was 5 years old an im very regretful that i didin't continue to do it. Im 13 now i wanna start again but i can't even do a bridge and my mom doesn't let me do it. If i dont start right now im afaird it'll be more late. If any of u have started ballet at age of 13+ and were succesfull, please reply to this comment i wanna show my mom and convince her. 😥
Edit: It's been 9 months since I wrote this comment and thanks to all of you guys replied to my comment i started ballet. I'm doing it for almost a year and I can say that I'm good at it. If there's any of you want to start go on.

Same I quit when I was 9 😬
I took my first ballet class at 26 years old, and did a recital after just a couple months. I was also with all teens (who weren't great, but still). I was really nervous for the recital, BUT I went out on stage and just pretended I was the most beautiful ballerina in the world and it was SO FUN! it was an experience I never got as a child. I think everyone should do ballet. ❤️
I wanted to do it growing up but I couldn't afford it and I don't think I would have made the cut anyway. I thought you had to start off really young? Anyways congrats! 💕
I want to do it probably during college or afterwards.
@@poisonedpear5192 You're never too old to dance!!
Thank you. I'm picking it back up again at 33 and this made me feel less self-conscious about being the oldest in all my classes.
@@terrikahan8245 Never feel self-conscious about being the oldest in class, it doesn't mean a thing!! Think about this: since you have already had classes in the past, you'll pick it up faster than the younger people learning it for the first time too!!
Girl I am so proud ballet isn't easy it is hard I have been doing ballet for 4 almost 5 years but to do all that in 6 weeks you naild it
I love how people are starting to appreciate how hard ballet is

What did you guys think about the ending? :) The final pas de deux dance is my favorite part of this video 💖 PS be sure to follow me on IG! I’m posting lotsss of behind the scenes today that didn’t make it into the video!!
it was beautiful. I wanted to learn ballet for a long time and maybe I will. You are an inspiration. Love from Canada.
It was really magical! Which song is played on partner dance part?
It was so beautiful 💕💕💕
U should keep on doing ballerina your so good at it
I loved the ending! It was beautiful and you looked really nice doing it!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
That pas de deux was so beautiful!!! I got goosebumps. The emotion on your face just looked so genuine, and that's one of the hardest things for dancers to learn!
You are such a wonderful representative for people who are older trying to pursue ballet and honestly it’s amazing how much progress you made in just 6 weeks
is everyone just gonna ignore how perfect garrets fifth was? like even the arms were amazing?????
Ikr
Totally! I'm just glad people are trying it and are seeing how much work and heart goes into it! Trying your best is what it's all about!
Much love for you and what you do❤️
Her teacher was so nice! My teacher is more like, “Don’t talk, don’t breathe, everything must be perfect, Oh my goodness you call that pointing?!”
Lynn Ghaziri sameeee
OMG SAME
Lol the Gordon Ramsay of ballet!
Thats so true omg
I think Michelle's type of teacher is more nurturing, but i think you need a mix of both- kindness and technique My teacher is like that and she's taught me so much
it isn't about not deserving to wear pointe shoes it's about her feet and ankles not being strong enough or developed enough for pointe
BINGO. The teacher kept forcing Michelle's turnout and oh Lord there were A LOT of questionable safety decisions in this video.
That's what I thought. I took very little ballet when I was younger and yet when I started taking at an academy I was told I could start on pointe because of my foot/ankle strength even with the little ballet that I had prior. Which I thought was a little weird.
Gale ik and I don’t know if she told her behind the seams but from what I saw she didn’t use her glutes at all so basically she’s forcing her turnouts
THANK. YOU. Dancers train for years before moving to pointe; your ankles and feet have to be strong enough to carry your entire body weight. You can seriously injure yourself if youre not developed enough to pointe work. They also hurt like a MF'r
I was cringing about how forced her turn out is she going to break an ankle.
The partner dance was wildly impressive!!!! You are so talented and beautiful!!
Good for you. An absolutely remarkable achievement over the course of 6 weeks, hats off. I love how you didn't forget to smile on stage and how you embraced to concept of performing, performing, no matter what. You are beautiful.
Hey! Michelle what about going on American ninja warrior for your challenge accepted series. Like if u agree
Yesssssssss
Yaasss!!!
Hell yeah that would be amazing!
I was actually a ballerina but my teacher left to the Philippines so I didn't get to do ballet anymore now I can't even do my splits anymore and I was so flexible not anymore 🙁😞
Yessss plzz
Sophia Karp yep and I’m only in Pre Pointe 1
I have danced ballet since I was 3 years old which is 10 years of training and I just started point and you did it all in 6 weeks of training. ballet is extremely challenging and you did amazing!!!! Great job👏
As a dancer I can promise you that you did an amazing job! We don't judge, we want to help others to improve. I applaud you!
Seeing you go from super nervous and wanting to quit, to performing and falling in love with ballet, it made me so so happy
i honestly go through that cycle every single year with dance
Thank you for respecting ballet. I have danced for over 25 years. I appreciate anyone who shines a light on how hard we work.
Love you! 💖

Alex Mirov agreed! The mental side of ballet is just as hard if not harder then the physical demands of the dance
So true she had an experience in the last one.
I think she looked really good in the pas de deux
Alex Mirov I can agree I am also a dancer and ballet is a lot harder than most people think. Some people think that ballet is easy but when people think that I just say “ why don’t you try it then “
I am a dancer and sometimes I forget why I dance I dance to show a story to let go of my feelings and you did that all, you did so good and thank you for reminding me of why I dance.
Imagine how many stories she can tell her kids....
imagine:
ugh mom i don’t want to wash the stupid dishes!
michelle: listen hear kiddo, i’ve been pepper sprayed and i have gone inside a gas chamber, and now have the knowledge of how to save someone from drowning the dishes is nothing 😌
She's not going to tell them every single story...she just can show them the videos
She's going to be very wise like she already is
Inspiring isn't it?
Damn 😂😂
I've been a dancer for 11 years now and I'm 15. Ballet has been a part of my life as long as I can remember myself. Kids at my school had no idea how hard and challenging this art truly is and made fun of it all the time. Thank you for representing ballet in a great way and showing the real struggles that come with it. People who haven't tried it have no idea who difficult it is both physically and mentally!!
Eva Anad same here!
same I’m about to be 15:)
Eva Anad how did you get your splits? Please tell me! I’ve been trying for so ling
@@ichikaakiyama3854 I'm pretty flexible anyway so for me it wasn't that hard. But I would say that all you can do is stretch on a daily basis. And stretch after every class for like 10 minutes or so. But be positive and patient, these things takes time.
Sooo right I
After seeing the third dance; she would kill it as a contemporary dancer!
Annie Backer yes I agree
I was a ballerina since 2 yrs old and i can say u did really good and you shown how ballet is hard. ❤ And i know how it feels when your on stage and how stressful it can be❤
i honestly got the chills when she danced the partner dance.
also people who don't know how hard ballet is, will not know how good and natural she was. not to mention in 6 WEEKS? no, you are not an embarrassment to the ballet community, because people who have done ballet or is still doing ballet KNOWS HOW TALENTED YOU ARE AND WILL ACTUALLY APPLAUD YOU FOR BEING SO BRAVE AND UP TO THE CHALLENGE
I.... TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SAID!!!! I have been training in ballet for years, and only now am I starting to go on pointe. Like, she is SO GOOD for being able to do all she did in only SIX WEEKS. People aren't giving her enough credit.
LITERALLY!!! I started at 12, after six weeks of ballet training, I could spot myself if I turned around myself slowly in the mirror at best, no pirouette, just turning around
I’ve been trying to spot since the movie leap came out- and she can do it in 6 weeks?! Man I need professional training really soon I’m getting old
she’s actually fairly good compared to how hard ballet is.
exactly, i've done ballet for over 6 years now, and how quickly she progressed and how talented she is at it is just flat-out amazing
You danced amazing during the final pas de deux dance. It all flowed together and it looked like you had practiced for more than six weeks
the pas de deux by Michelle was so beautiful
