- Doing a Monday shave with a new blade I've never tried, and some old favorites. Using a restored 1959 Gillette Red Tip Razor that was my father-in-laws Dad's Razor. It had been in a drawer since 1974 and I had it restored by Razor Emporium.

I find the Nacet Blade similar to the Silver Blue. Both Russian Gillette's. I also shave with the red tip. Mine is a C1...First quarter of 1957...my birth year and quarter!

Don't fear the Red Tip. It's one of the best razors out there and can be had for a song. I use feathers in mine and my technique isn't even very good and no problems.

This soap is just right for the heat, to feel fresh and cheerful all day.) Although you often shave in the evening, as far as I know.) Great shave and clip Ken as always. I bought ARTIQUE - EMBRACE THE COLD too, from West Coast Shaving (overseas from Australia) based on another of your videos. They've changed the colour of the lid which is now a black background with 'ARTIQUE' and 'EMBRACE...' in light blue and the 'temperature gauge' graphic in white but in the same font style. It even has a round red 'warning label' on the bottom right of the lid with written in white uppercase text: 'CAUTION: EXTREMELY COLD. KEEP AWAY FROM EYES AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WOULD PREFER NOT TO FREEZE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.' Talk about 'freeze', after shaving I can still feel the 'bracing effect' around my cheeks, above my mouth and chin. Thanks and kind regards.
Yet another relaxing video! Those Gillette Indian blades are fantastic, my everyday one is a 7 O'clock Super Platinum (Black). Readily available here. Smoothest shave ever, and last a lot longer than any other I know. Greetings from Bangkok.

Talking about vintage cartridge. I remember bying a razor with the Trac II system way back when. It was my second razor after my Super Slimtwist. At least I think it was a Trac II. I remember that you slid the cartridges into place. It had a really cool metal handle that consisted of several half inch extension pieces, which meant that you could decide the length of your razor, from really really short, to long. Of course, that razor too is long gone.
Slaget vid Brännkyrka I looked for my Sensor Excel Razor and I can't find it either. Now I'll have to look for one to add to my collection👍👍💈💈

The Red Tip is one of my favorite razors, and the Nacet is also one of my favorite blades!
I have a highly mentholated soap called "Yeti Snot", which i use in the summer months.
It will definitely open your sinuses! To call it a cooling shave soap is an understatement. ;)

Hey Ken! What date code is your Red Tip? Mine is E3 which is 3rd quarter of 1959.
Nacet is one of my favorite blades…along with Astra SP, Voskhod, and Feathers. For a real menthol experience…I will use the PAA Cube with menthol preshave and then Proraso Green shaving cream. Gives me enough menthol sometimes….that my eyes start watering. Wouldn’t need or want any more than that.
I frequently add Biofreeze gel to my lather.. I love being able to control the level of menthol in my shave. Plus, Biofreeze contains healing/anti-inflammatory Ingredients👍
Yeah Ken , $25-$28 for 5 cartridges with 5 Blades (cheese graders) , All about the Benjamins . Love the Red Tip , SE made it look Brand New ! Hope you enjoyed the golf treatment Ken . Great shave !

Great video Ken! Yeah I cannot find the Arctique. Barrister & Mann do not currently sell it on their website. Amazon and Ebay do not have it either. Oh and I used to have the red Brut. Loved that stuff. Wish they still made it.

I'd love to see you do a review on Cremo Original Concentrated Shave Cream. Most guys are so into huge lather and reviews I saw on it they used too much product and a brush. It is meant to be a brushless cream and loves loves, loves water. The directions are clear on the packaging, yet those reviewers didn't follow them. I personally love it (I have the Bourbon) for its slickness and close shave.
Good morning Ken! Great razor and excellent blade. The Red Tip is a bit more aggressive than regular Super Speed. If you go with the blade gap as the only measure of aggressiveness, then the Red Tip is more aggressive than the Muhle R41, however, we both know the R41 does shave closer in practice. I found Gillette produces some nice blades. I like the Silver Blue and Nacet blades the most of the modern offerings. I get at least 4 four pass shaves out of the Nacet's and find them an outstanding value. Perhaps Gillette will reintroduce DE blades to the US market if the decides the items are popular enough to to add to their bottom line. I should think these blades would come from Russia or India...lower cost to produce; factory already in place. A business case analysis would reveal why Gillette has gone with the cartridge razors. First, their cartridge designs are protected by patents...so nobody is eating into their market share (yet). Second, margins! If the true cost of producing the cartridges was public information people might actual protest and boycott Gillette. There are some fix and variable costs that are difficult to factor in, but I would guess that the cost of manufacturing single cartridge (out of the thousands made daily) cost about 10 cents. Therefore, the margin is about $4.90 per cartridge. That is why the Gillette will never produce DE blades here again and they certainly would discourage the average shaver from buying DE razor and blades by not marketing those products. The Board of Directors want to maximize profit and share holders want bigger dividends. Just my two cents Ken. Thank you for the information about the crystal skull!
Todd F Thanks Todd. It would be good if they did devote about 10% of their product line to DE products. I know Dorco is primarily cartridge razors but they do see a small market share in the DE items. 👍👍💈💈
Perhaps in the future Gillette will provide the US market with DE offerings. I am sure the company is aware of the surge in DE shaving. I would think they are waiting to see if this is a fade or trend. Once the market is analyzed and a clear path for profits are found...well, it will be our gain.
If you enjoy mentholated soaps, you should try some of Stirling's. Their lemon chill is the strongest one I own. Another great video Ken 👍

I've been looking around for a stronger than normal menthol soap and/or cream (non-Stirling). It's great to see that beautiful Red Tip with some family connection, brought back to shaving perfection. Try a Wilkinson Sword Classic (German) in Old Red.

I love my red tip, in fact I bought a spare. I just bought a muhle R41 but haven't shaved with it yet. Which do you feel is more aggressive?

Hello Ken. Speaking of blades, have you tried a carbon steel blade? I picked up some Treet "black beauty" blades and I like them in my vintage razors...not the sharpest blades but quite smooth.

@@kensurfs a little late but I remember a scent from when I was 15 and first started shaving called… BRUT ACTIFF BLUE! Was a very clean Aqua scent that would bring back nostalgia from 1995 when I lived in Las Vegas for the summer and my 1st ever job at WetNWild water park

I know this is an old video. I guess India has the DE razors because in India the barbers shave the back of your neck and behind your ears with a straight razor. So, there is a lot of demand for those razors. They are also supposed to throw away the razors after one use.

i started out with the Gillette contour Plus...i so wanted to try it again...it is no longer around only the blades even it says Astra can use the same blades its not the same i did find it on E-bay but dammit outside Europe so would be expensive the handle it self i only found the version i owned in Singapore...oh the dove shaving cream i saw on E-day still in Europe what does it smell like ?
pkj77 it's kind of s generic smell, similar to the dove soap. I started to look for my old Sensor Excel Razor and think it got thrown away. Now I'm bidding on a replacement just to add to the Den.
