  • This video shows a 1959 Gillette Red Tip Super Speed, before and after getting a complete restoration from Razor Emporium. This Arizona based company offers vintage razors and accessories for sale, and has great services for repairing your special razor.
    This razor was given to me on thanksgiving 2015 by my father in law. It was his fathers, and it had been kept in a drawer since his fathers death in 1974. He knew I was into wet shaving and gave it to me for display or use. I plan on using it now that it is like brand new. Razor Emporium did a revamp service for $65, which included complete restoration and repeating with polished nickel.
    If you are interested, check out Razor Emporium on the web at..
    www.razorempori...
    They have great customer service and keep you informed through email as the restoration steps are completed.
    Thanks for watching. Subscriptions and comments always welcome.

    Your father-in-law's Dad shaved with that razor for 15 years. My theory as to why Gillette and other safety razor manufacturers originally discontinued these was because you'd buy one razor and usually wouldn't have to buy another one. Hence the switch to cartridge razors. I see so many surviving razors on eBay and elsewhere that I have to wonder how Gillette never went out of business. They were just made so well and like yours could be revamped without any issues. There were probably some people who purchased multiple razors back then, but others probably didn't. Anyway, I've seen this video a plethora of times. Nice restore!

    Hi Ken ! I recently subscribed to your page after looking for a video regarding razor replating. I have an old '58 Red Tip that is sorely in need of restoration. Thanks to you and your excellent videos, including the one where you used your Red Tip with a Nacet blade (one of favorite blades!), I will be sending my razor out for a complete restoration. Take care, and keep up the great work !

    I got one from JT,it's somewhere between your original and the revamped. Shaved today using a gillette blade but was not impressed. Put the blade in a FatBoy @5 and was way better....

    kensurfs. I want to ask you a question? I am considering to buy a red tip. I have a slim adjustable. so how aggressive is the redtip in comparison with a slim. I mean on what setting of the slim would kinda match the redtip.

    • @kensurfs
      @kensurfs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      neil dsouza it would be closer to the higher settings. Once mastered the Red Tip is great. I would say it is less aggressive than the Muhle R41

    I'm going to send in my Fatboy for a tune up service. It squeaks and feels stiff when I twist the bottom dial. Their service price has gone up to $40 for Adjustables but the razor is gonna last several more decades 👍

    Let’s just get this out of the way, highly caffeinated I’m gonna call bull shit on, I think you said that was your grandfathers razor correct? You just received his razor that passed down to your father in law then to you by then it was BEAT, so you got a complete restoration and it’s better than brand new , that’s exciting, you’re allowed to shake all you want! That is beautiful
