    Just bought a 97 ZJ 5.2! It's in rough shape. Glad I found your channel. You'll be helping me with some of the rebuild. 😂

      That’s awesome. Unfortunately I sold the ZJ. But we have tons of content on Other rigs some of it works on the Zj. We have a WJ build going that has a lot of similarities with the ZJ.

    You definitely earned a subscriber from me, I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee it was my first vehicle I ever owned and I still have it after all these years. I have just started having issues where it doesn’t want to start and when it does it won’t stay running unless I’m putting pressure on gas peddle for a few minutes then it will start working. I have been wanting to get the engine and everything running just right cause I’m never going to get rid of it, and I want to get it to a dependable vehicle, so I look forward to more videos, I’ll probably be doing what your doing along with you in your videos to get her back to her former glory. Thank you and keep it up

    Best tutorial on this I have seen, thanks! I have a 97 5.2 which has a bit of struggle to start after sitting a few days. Suspecting the fuel filter is pretty old.

      You are very welcome. We appreciate the compliment. The 97 and newer are going to be in the tank though I do not believe you will find one of these on your jeep. You have to replace the fuel pump to change the filter. But as old as these are getting, that’s not always a bad thing either they tend to have issues themselves. Glad this was helpful for you.

      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS oh thanks, I have to look it up. I have wondered if the fuel pump was the issue as well.

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS
      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@danielnielsen3501 it’s highly possible we have found that to be the issue in my friends WJ, which is very similar in which the pump and filter are all in one in the tank. Kind of a pain, but a relatively inexpensive easy swap.

      @@AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS that will be my plan to get fixed soon. I'm a bit disabled, so I will have to let the local shop fix it for me. If it ran yesterday it got no trouble starting, but after 3 days it hesitates (battery ok).

    Ihave a project 1996 Jeep. It is fond rolling to a stop, mostly in city traffic. So far i have replaced fuel injectors {Lots of carbon found}, tuneup, map sensor, 2 O2 sensors, Lucas gas additive by the quart. I think I'll pull the fuel pump next.
    I have learned so much in 1 year about cars.

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS
      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great job learning how to work on it. Sounds like you might try a camshaft position sensor. They are known for getting oil on them and stop working correctly can cause random dying. Or you might have plugged cats. Do you get a check engine light when it dies?

    That fuel you dumped out of the filter looked like a lot of dirty water that you can get from the service station where you get your fuel. If the station does not do regular "STICK" tests on their tanks they can get water intrusion from any tank leaks and when their fuel gets low in their tanks you can get BAD GAS that generally will make your car rough start, stutter or die.

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS
      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah most gas stations have had to redo their tank systems and that has become less and less of a problem over the New Year’s. But I do agree. The fuel was horrible. I had recently bought this vehicle, and it had been sitting for months.

    After replacing the fuel pump in my 2006 Jeep grand cherokee laredo 3.7 WK- Im now having a problem with a vapor lock and my new pump is making a ringing/humming noise off and on-is there a way to fix it with a inline check valve or inline filter of some sort. I have to release pressure on the fuel rail to re-crank it after it runs for more than 20 minutes/ which is a possible fire risk which makes it not safe to drive. Any suggestions?

    My 97 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 6L does not have a fuel filter like this one. I’m guessing my fuel filter is built into the fuel pump on the fuel filter/pressure regulator. Am I missing something because if I look up fuel filter for my Jeep model it shows this part but under my Jeep all there is. Is the fuel filter on top of the fuel pump..

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS
      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you are correct. Your filter is part of your pump. To change filter you have to change pump as well.

    Great video. I have a 93 Grand Cherokee Laredo I6 4.0 and needing to siphon the tank out from at the "fuel filter area into several gas cans". What would be the best/exact procedure on doing this on my 1993 ZJ? Note: I have already cleared the fuel rail all the way down up to the fuel filter with 99.8% Isopropyl Alcohol & with forced air to bleed out from the end of fuel line up to the fuel filter. I even put in a few bottles straight into my tank also. Hope you or anyone can help in this matter. Thx much for your expertise and your time. Note: I just subscribed & liked to your channel.

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS
      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Best way to clean properly is to drop tank to clean it. Siphoning it out will still leave junk in the bottom of the tank if that’s the issue. If you only want to empty tank then try a siphon pump on the line maybe. We appreciate the support for the channel.

    I have 1997 that just started taking longer time to switch on and when moving the car on D gear it would go slow then usual. Could this be a fuel pump or filter, or is it faulty spark plugs?

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS
      @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So to me that sounds like your fuel pump is struggling to push fuel or filter is plugging causing not enough fuel to get to the engine . In yours the pump and filter are all one unit in the gas tank. I would say fuel pump/filter combo is probably your issue.

    • @AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS

      First you will want to remove that relay, with the gas cap off crank it over several times to empty the fuel lines then you will disconnect the negative terminal to continue the work.
