    Hey just a tip from a fellow zj owner, before you think you have the wrong fuel pump ( I thought I had the wrong one to) its actually spring loaded and when you put the pump in the tank you just have to press down then lock it! 5:32 I may be wrong but you can see springs at the top of the fuel pump. Those springs aren't on your old pump. I bet you have to push against the springs and force the pump into the tank and screw it down to make it fit. Anyhow, thanks for posting. All the tips you give help. FFF/ZJ/001A is the part number for the filter/pressure regulator which is what you see at the top of the unit in this video before pump removal. the one you changed was just a pre-filter for the pickup. when you buy a new pump assembly unit it comes with it. I would recommend always replacing the entire assembly while you have the tank off there is no reason not to but if you want to change the primary fuel filter it is the filter/pressure regulator at the top. edit: in no way do I want to take away from your video I love watching your videos and hope you continue to make them

    That is one EXPENSIVE tea bag, my brother. Looks like you and I shopped in the same store for girlfriends...who always need some car repair done "on the cheap". I think you're right in changing out the fuel pump the same time you replace the filter. Just wish they put a stupid "in-line" filter like in days of old when this woulda been a cheap and fast repair. Sometime I really thing they go backward in the world of "fix it" or corporations just like making things so difficult and annoying that you have to take it to the dealer for their guys to fix it (where they get paid peanuts for doing the work and the dealership pockets the difference). No matter. GREAT video, and I agree, balance of music and your commentary was just right, and you really explain things so well even a moron like me can understand it. Good job boss. You know, on reflection, does Jeep make an access panel that you wouldn't have had to drop the tank? My son's Toyota and an old BMW I had actually made it so it was easy. I'm gonna have to check that out, because I assumed you checked this first.

    • @barricadegarage5361
      @barricadegarage5361  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christen Jankowski 1st generation Grand Cherokees ('93-98) did not come with a access panel to the fuel pump. Neither did the second generation Grand Cherokees ('99-2004).
      my '96 came with an external fuel filter but for the '97 & '98 ZJ Chrysler decided to put it in the tank and intergrate it with the fuel pump.
      whats strange is they decided to go with the external fuel filters again for their WJ (99-'04) model Grand cherokees. theres quite a few modern vehichles that do have a access panel for the fuel pump under the back seat tho.

    • @christen1075
      @christen1075 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate your speedy reply and you just saved me a ton of work searching IF there was an access panel. I figured you had already checked this out, but sometimes I've fallen into the trap and just made an assumption on something only to find out there was a much easier way. You live, you learn (except about girlfriends-I seem to make multiple mistakes in that area, but that's way off topic). Not gonna tackle dropping a tank until I absolutely HAVE to. I miss the simplicity of cars, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and I haven't checked your channel, but you do have a gift for explaining "how to" that others lack, considering you were even doing this in the parking lot. I wish you much success and may you enjoy good and warm, dry weather. I hate being the family mechanic in January, outside.

      Checking for proper fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a test kit would be the most direct and effective way, but if you have a 23 year old vehichle and never changed the pump then chances are its not gonna perform like it should. You may experience difficulty starting, loss of power under stress like when driving up a hill and may even hear whining noises from the gas tank area. But in some cases the fuel pump just quits out of the blue with no symptoms leaving you stranded somewhere

    Band excellent videos thank you so much I'm partially blind but I used to be able to change the water pump on my woman's 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited Live out in California I was trying to beat the snow and rain so I was pretty much at it for 24 hours straight She had some bozo company supposed to be replaced with water pump 2 years ago less than 300 miles on the vehicle now and The serpentine belt kept throwing relaxed though pulling on the water pump had almost an inch and a 1/2 play left right up-and-down Job went perfect except one last thing I forgot where I put the bolts that separated the clutch fan clutch from the Van Any idea where picked up those unique bolts Sorry about any miss Bellingham I used to talk to text cause I can't see the keyboard again thank you very much videos are awesome

    I just installed a new fuel pump in my 1998 GC ZJ exactly like the one you attempted to install. Your new fuel pump is the correct one for that vehicle, part number 67649. These fuel pumps are spring loaded so you needed to press it down so it fits tightly in the tank. Then you can screw on the retaining cap. I do like the larger filters on the new Bosch units.

    • @barricadegarage5361
      @barricadegarage5361  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark Dominey I know exactly what im doing when im making these videos so i know these fuel pumps are spring loaded but the one I was trying to install was NOT for this Jeep and would not compress far enough to fit the tank. I have since installed a bosch unit that went in with no problems. I have 3 ZJs and have done this job multiple times and know know my way around these Jeeps well. Keep watching my channel and learn something. Thanks for watching👍
