Typically they go bad because of the soldier points get hot and then release contact. Usually the lower settings go out first because the more redistricted the current the hotter the contact points become.
Most of those resistors have an internal thermal fuse that blows if it gets too hot. A worn motor may cause excess heat. Some resistors can be opened, and you can test that thermal fuse and replace it if it is blown. That can save you $100-200 for an OEM resistor! But something caused it to blow, so don’t stop there, keep checking.

My truck was doing the same thing. It kept cycling on and off between ac and regular. It's not the blower motor in this case. Could be one of a few things. It could be low on freon. I would start by checking that. If its not low then check to see if the the low and high side sensors are working properly. You could also take a hose and clean the radiator real well. Sometimes they get clogged up from dust, bugs, ECT. If none of those help the cycling situation then check to see if either your fan clutch is engaging and turning off properly. If you have electric fans check to see if there turning on.

Mine doesn’t come on unless I hit the blower motor. I’m unsure if I should change the resistor or the blower motor.
@@laurar7796 what ended up being your problem. i dont know which one to change
@@felipecarvalho4797 It was my blower motor. As soon as we hooked the new one up it worked great!
But what if the fan won't turn OFF?
My guy!!
What about Range Rover?
His voice sounds like a dirt bike engine being throttled. What is he saying?
Did he say he would make 200 videos for each vehicle!?
For each topic covered, I think he said. (Exaggerating a bit, I'm sure..).
I replaced motor an resistor and still stays on 😢
