    I just purchased a set of dies for my Klein 3005cr that crimps copper open barrel 10-20AWG ferrules, there are many other dies that can be installed into the tool so the 3005cr has a multitude of crimp sizes available for both insulated and non-insulated terminals.
    Great video, thanks for sharing your thoughts.👋🤠👍

      Where did you find them?

    I hate to be "That guy" and critique an otherwise great video, but........................Look closely at the die itself. only one side of the die has the colored dot. If you look even closer, the contours of the die are different on the dot side than the opposite side. The reason for this is that whenever you crimp a connector onto the wire, the tool must be used exactly the same way on every crimp.
    The correct process is holding the tool in your right hand with the side of the crimper that has the dots on it facing your left. The dot side ALWAYS faces the wire with every connector being inserted into the tool until flush with the edge of the die itself. After doing thousands of crimps, I stick the connector in the tool and then squeeze until the first or second click.
    This holds the connector and frees up your left hand to insert and spin the wire if needed for insertion and also lets you make sure the wire stays in when you make the crimp. When using butt connectors, do the first crimp and turn the connector around and repeat this process.
    The side of the die with the dot is designed to only crimp the plastic insulation tightly around the wire and acts like strain relief. The other side is for the combination of insulator and internal metal connector. While I realize your connectors stayed together afterwards even with you pulling on them I thought you may interested as someone that is very conscientious about the quality of your work.
    When I started doing electronics in the military, one of my first jobs was to make 220 small jumpers with spade connectors on each end. I must have been hung over or missed class on crimping day? Anyways, I was told to make them and my Senior Sargent (translated:boss) asked me if I knew how? Confident me replied "Of course" and I started. My boss would come by occasionally and watch over my shoulder, smile and walk away. I thought he was just making sure I wasn't screwing off?
    About 4 hours later I finished and brought the finished jumpers and set them on his desk. "Finished are you?" he asked and of course I replied "Yep" He then pulled out cutters and hacked through every one of them. I couldn't believe it??????? "Why are you doing that?" I asked. He said "Don't ever, ever, EVER tell me you know how to do something when obviously, you do NOT!"
    We then went back to my work station and I was schooled on the correct usage of a crimping tool and at 2:30PM I started the same job over. Everyone went home at 3:00 except for me? I got out of there around 7:30PM. It turns out had he just accepted what I had done and forwarded my work the CO or Captain would have inspected them next and his butt would be smoked.
    Ok Enough on this, just passing on some knowledge.

    Good job on demonstrating how the Klein 3005R operates. Appreciate the tip on changing the jaws which is not on any other tutorial I have seen.

      I haven't used them enough to properly compare them, still a big fan of the 03 06 200 model from knipex, all quality tools

    Can you replace the die set with barrel specific dies or is that even necessary?

  • @jackhammer9622
    @jackhammer9622 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To answer your questions. Yes they are klein. Klein wants a receipt to warranty. To be honest most the time I throw them away when I dispose of the packaging

    On what planet do you crimp terminal ends on solid wire?

  • @three-phase562
    @three-phase562 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't think it is too bad a price, given the cost of the high end units available. What would be great if Klein made some swappable dies for it, so uninsulated and ferrules could also be crimped.

    The Klein website says that this is for stranded wire only. I see that you were using solid wire. Have you had any difficulty with solid wire?

      Hi david none at all though in my job i dont tend to use much bigger than 1.5

    bought one of these because of the good reviews. can't get it to tighten down sufficiently, couldn't squeeze it properly by hand and had to resort to pulling the grips together with an iron C-clamp! then it wouldn't release! finally got the thing off the wire and the crimp slipped off easily. doesn't work at all as shown in this video.

    The release on this has to be one of the poorest designed functions I have ever encountered in a tool; and I sometimes shop at harbor freight.

    • @robertmotion
      @robertmotion 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The release on most crimpers are set up like this … counterintuitive.
      My work around is to use a flathead screwdriver to slide under the release lever.
      This is by far the BEST crimper on the market and worth the investment.

    I am a fan of Klein Tools. What I find very odd and disappointing is that I just went to Harbor Freight yesterday and purchased what appears to be the exact same tool. The only difference I can see is the brand name. Klein is a renowned tool brand. However, if I were to place mine next to these and cover up the brand name on both, you wouldn’t even know the difference. They’re a “Doyle” tool brand name. I am talking about right down to the colors, the same rubberized grips, even the design on the grips are the same. I just find it disappointing that these tools have very suspiciously exact features, design and everything else.

    • @ericdee6802
      @ericdee6802 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Although a majority of Klein tools are made in the USA, you'll find some that aren't, and the chances of that Harbor Freight crimper and the Klein 3005cr crimper being made by the same manufacturer are about 99+%
      Something to ponder, do you think that Home Depot has a tool forging plant that exclusevely makes the Husky brand tool???, highly unlikely, Home Depot contracts tool makers just like Snap-on and Proto does!. Alot of people invest in names, not tools and really never think about where they are comming from!🤠👍

    The BEST crimper by far! Was using a WayinTop (off Amazon) … and go through dozen of ends before i get a quality crimp.
    Well. Worth. Investment.
