    I would agree with the term spiffy adjacent as specified. Undoubtedly the best spiffy adjacent work I have ever seen. Seriously, you're doing a very nice job.Look forward to the rest of your build.

    Mads ! i could watch you read the phone book...... i found your channel about 3 months ago, and have since watched and or fell asleep to every video you have posted, 2 or 3 times i'm sad to say, lol........ i'm like a thirsty sponge for the knowledge and value of human spirit you have brought in to this crazy thing called youtube, it is truly channels like this one that make it worth the while to log in and see whats next :)
    i am soon to start my own boating adventure (building a 34' steel tug yacht) and find a lot of the things you are doing things that i will need to have some knowledge about, and i couldn't ask for a better mentor ! :) i just hope i can keep a fraction of your composure and good spirits
    have fun on your trip !

    She is looking absolutely Gorgeous! But it has occurred to me now, after having seen them so often, that it is time to send some kudos to Camila, to Thomas, et. al. for the help they have given you. To have friends that are there for you makes all the difference in our lives... that they are willing and able to give so much help a blessing. Give them a big hug from all your fans. As for your L.A. trip, I would vote for doing videos. BUT I completely understand if you want to take advantage of the time you have with her and will wait (impatiently) for your return :-D

    It's looking very good. That has been a lot of work but the product is appearing very good and we all know the quality throughout the entire operation was as good as the love which went into it. I highly doubt many production crews would be as attentive to ALL the details as you were.

    Welcome Ava! Mads, good to see you again and to see you positively shinning introducing Ava. Engine room lights. Two in the back and one up front = no shadows when you drop that little bitty washer or nut with no spares 300 miles off the Canary Islands in the middle of the night.

    I feel like I'm taking a graduate course in deck restoration. If the pro's out there find this disconcerting, go do a series of your own. Plus, with and average of 50,000 views per episode, the potential sponsors are really missing the "boat" big time. Mads, hopefully, you are getting a lot of free supplies! This series is awesome. Thanks Mads!

    I would suggest looking into having the boat shrink wrapped. It’s protects the topside from sunlight and rain, and holds in heat. On sunny winter days it can be warm enough to continue working up there. Also, shrink wrap tape works great for sealing the port lights. Extremely strong and leaves no residue.

    Mads I’m so pleased for you, you must feel like you’re finally making real progress. How about putting a backing plate across the inside of those hatches to keep the covers in place, a piece of wood with a bolt through the top & bottom would hold them in place. You don’t want to risk them coming off whilst you’re away. Same for the windows openings. Enjoy you’re holiday.

    WOW, WOW, WOW MADS!!!!! That's looking GREAT!! I know the excitement of putting on that non-skid- it's like frosting on a cake. Hind sight being what it is, should have left the F/G on the port light cutouts, and they would have been sealed up till spring, but that's just my opinion. Don't remember if you've mentioned doing a moisture meter on the cabin top, if it's cored. But I love watching you sanding so I just wanted to possibly give you more :). Have a great time with your lady in LA!.

  • @isakmo
    @isakmo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +90

    88 + 12 ratio must be because 88 + 12 equals 100. That means 12 cl of hardener for 1L of mixed paint, for example.
    Sure, 22/3 is a more simplified fraction, but i guess a "total" of 100 could be useful in some cases, especially since most measuring cups can hold 100 of something, ml, cl or dl :)

    • @brianwalk108
      @brianwalk108 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      its out of 100 becuase its a ratio of percentages. 88% of one, 12% of the other.

    • @manfredschmalbach9023
      @manfredschmalbach9023 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yupp, those 100 in % equals 1.0 as "the whole lot" of mixed product, and 88 resp. 12 the fractions of the lot.
      And it's not even important whether it's in weight or volume in this case (depending on what the supplier does mandate, of course), the percentage keeps a percentage You fill up to 100 or 1.0 pro rata.
      Some suppliers even try to trim it to identical weight-to-volume ratios which opens all different sets of measuring possibilities to the user.
      That's why colors measurable by volume come in cylindrical pots.

    • @DirkHerrling
      @DirkHerrling 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I couldn't help, but notice that 12% is pretty close to 12.5%, which would be 1/8th. Maybe that's where that number came from. Maybe it used to be mixed 1:7 and someone (most likely in management ;-)) decided to give percentages instead.

    • @hellsop
      @hellsop 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sure the 1/8th is it: It's EASY to mark a uniform container for 7:1. It's half, then half of that, then half of that, mark your fill line, then hardener to the top.

    • @clidiere
      @clidiere 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The French version of the Sigmadur 550 product sheet indeed clearly says 88% - 12%. Strangely, datasheets in all other languages read "88:12". www.ppgpmc.com/Products/7537/SIGMADUR-550.aspx

    Hi Mads..in my experience testing products such as this, the chemists are erring on the side of extreme accuracy to make sure that the product performs as advertised. You usually run into this in commercial applications where sizing up quantities is required. It is also important where the paint does another function such as adhesion or texture or prime/paint in one coat. After working with some of the Benjamin Moore paint experts there is an acceptable margin of error for consumers but it isnt huge unfortunately. Stick with the ratio on all your coats if you can and the job will be pretty dang spiffy! 🎉

    Those hatch cover boxes, I need to build two myself. I’ll do the same thing as you did, only I am going to put a rubber gasket, like on a refrigerator, all along the edge to make a seal. Below, I’ll have a pull cord in the center of the box so I can run a stick through the hanging cord and tighten it up to create pull-pressure, collapsing the gasket for a water-tight fit. Waddaya think?

    Did you make sure that the tarp and the tape are UV resistant? Here the tarps are only good for about one summer. Also check your tape to make sure it doesn’t leave any residue behind once the sun hits it, it may let go and fly away in the wind after a short time. A huge UV resistant tarp to cover the cabin top maybe the thing for you to have!

    OMG ! " a bit of wavyness ... you are not going to notice it." 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 ?
    FYI - The reason the second coat on the hatch openings cam out so nice was because you added thinner. The thinner lets the brush/roller marks "flow" out. Also the cool temps provide a much longer curing time, again, adding to the flow. (𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑠𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑎 𝑠𝑚𝑜𝑜𝑡ℎ 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑎 𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑/𝑜𝑟 𝑏𝑟𝑢𝑠ℎ 𝑖𝑛 𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠.)
    I am not paint expert, but I have never seen any paint that would cure below about 10C !

    A litre blended is 880 ml + 120 ml - so. 88/12 is easy to blend. The activator ratio is based on the hydroxyl number of the base urethane resin system.

  • @MidnightAmratha
    @MidnightAmratha 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adding 88 and 12 you get 100 which incidentally is standard for percentages, and any mixture rate is normally indicated in percentages industrially.

    Is the 88/12 not just so that it totals 100? Makes it easy to mix a litre at a time (or multiples there of). I should add that this is a total guess... :-)

    In South Africa the Sigma 550 comes in a 4400ml container and 600ml of hardner to make 5000ml of mixed paint, which is the same as 88 to 12 ratio.

  • @jeffreylevin9728

    Ratio is in units of 100 total volume. If you want 2 liter of paint (that's 20 batches of 100 ml each), it's easy to measure 240 ml (12 ml x 20) of hardener and balance (1760 ml) in paint.
