Hej Mads er der mulighede for at interview dig i løbet af dec..? Da jeg ikke har mulighed for at kontakte dig på anden måde pt så er min mail ddehli@outlook.com på forhånd tak David/kalpita
When Athena is done she'll be so secure and solidly restored you'll be able to go anywhere in her. She'll be a head turner at every port of call. You'll be proud to own her.
Hello from Sydney Australia Mads. Brilliant and inspirational as always. Definitely listen to the Sailing Stories podcasts of 'Brave or Stupid'. Incredible story of two middle aged Swedes who, never having stepped foot on a boat, decided, planned and circumnavigated the globe replete with beautiful descriptive tales. Cheers.
Looking spiffy as always. My wife constantly reminded me while remodeling our old house that no one else noticed the tiny imperfections I seemed to find everywhere.
another great episode Mads! Anyone who is getting inches away from the 'artisanal' hatch openings should just be made to walk the plank :) Cheers from PEI Canada,, have a great week, Bryan.
Your talents never cease to amaze. For someone that is a diy type of person, the boat is looking awesome. I cannot wait to see the finished product. Great job Mads!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Mads - what an achievement! You have inspired such a lot of armchair boaters like me to start looking at least for something similar to your project. I bet you feel completely knackered at times , but I can see the Viking boat love surpasses all. All the very best and thanks for your efforts.
Looking good, Mads!!! Amazed that you can work for 12 hours a day, and still have a full time job, take care of your dog, relationship, and life. Keep up the good work!!!!
Pretty "dang spiffy" that you had a visit from Kenneth. Admire his take on paint and varnish, could not be presented better. Hope you have some more video with Kenneth explaining his advice in english for your future paint jobs
Hi Mads, stumbled across your project while looking for van conversions, you must be so pleased with the way that deck is turning out. I think your work is awesome and your attitude is an inspiration. I'm off to watch some more of your video's !
Hey Mads! I always forget to put a comment. So it's been a long time coming. I'm pretty sure there are more hardcore fans than me out there. However I'm super excited to let you know that me and my girlfriend pretty much watched all your videos and now watch them on a weekly basis. Usually Monday morning while having breakfast. We have a small Albin Vega, and I've not had the luxury of having it on the hard for more than 10 days this year. But nevertheless, she has hull nr 19. And we've started to get her into pretty good shape. I started painting the deck yesterday actually so pretty fun coincidence. Thank you so much for making these videos. And if you ever need any help I would not mind swinging by Skive and lend you a hand. (Might need just a bit of planning because we are in Barcelona) but other than that more than happy too. We are both Swedish but moved down here to skip the freezing winters of the north. If you want to see some photos of the boat you can look at instagram.com/linusandjennie Hopefully at some point I'll be posting some videos of the renovation, but nothing close to your dedication. Thanks again Mads for sharing all this progress, and let me know if you need help in near future. :-)
A podcast for you: "hello from the magic tavern". Definitely my favorite. Also, one of these days we are going to need "pretty dang spiffy" sail life t-shirts.
Mads, great work! Don’t worry too much about filling all the pinholes just yet. After you give all the surfaces a fresh coat of primer you’ll find a lot more pinholes. I usualy only worry about pinholes after I spray the primer. Then I fill all of them, sand and spray another coat of primer. To fill the pinholes I switch to a polyester fine filler which has the advantage of curing much faster while being very easy to sand. Some pinholes are so small that only a fine acrylic filler will be able to fill them. If you want to stay with epoxy, maybe you need to change to 409 or 410 for the pinholes as 407 is sometimes too coarse for the tiny pinholes.
After all this hard work, hope you get a few long winter resting breaks out here in my part of the world (California). Looking at the edging of the deck, I hope you are able to source better toe rail than the old original stuff. In particular, try to find some with drain holes that are big and real low to the lower mounting portion of the rail. This will help drain more out of that little channel. Looking forward to future episodes 👍
Sail life on Sundays and delos on Fridays will get me through the cold Canadian winter! After Xmas I start shopping for my "project boat" l am getting inspiration from these videos. Keep up the good work
Awesome result Mads! Truly inspirational !! I feared the worst when you said you would replace the top deck but I should of known better!!! I bet there's a pretty dang spiffy pod cast about sanding out there somewhere !
Another great video! Some our our favorite podcasts are: Radio Lab (love this one, absolutely worth listening to!), Moth Radio Hour (people's individual stories, told live), Wait Wait Don't Tell Me (very funny news-based show), Invisibilia, TED Radio Hour, and Lore (if you like old-fashioned ghost stories!).
This helps me a lot. I'm building a wooden catamaran in my back yard under a tent - dry, but overnight temps down into the 30s F. I'll see if putting the electric radiator under the hull (It's upside down) will produce sufficient surface temps to sheath and paint during the next several weeks. Thanks!
Isn’t it disappointing that you can’t even paint a deck with out worrying about the nitpicking trolls having a go!!!! Great series enjoy every one, and look forward to the next ,in your journey.don’t change a thing I am here until the splash .... With a bit of luck the trolls may self destruct........
I am really enjoying this channel. I cannot comment on any of the DIY stuff but I do (also) recommend podcasts: THIS AMERICAN LIFE all the rest are second best, but other good ones are Seriel, 99%invisible, Snap Judgement, and (if you are interested in Economics) Econtalk. Thanks
"Communal dining..." Cool, traded any good stories with the other live-a-boards? Its one of the things I miss, when my family used to visit relatives over there, now that you mention it.
Looking Awesome Mads! As far as Podcasts I really enjoy Mike Rowe’s “The way I heard it”. Wish I could join you in the sanding adventure, however I have my own refit going on. 😞
I liked the painting guy..."We deliver paints for Ferrari, Harley Davidson and also for Mads"...lol, started my week with a good laugh - thanks! Listen to Joe Rogan podcasts...he always have great guests.
Nice job 👍🏻. Maybe helpful for you. A tip once told to me by a pro in abrasives. Use the edges of your finger nails for assessing surface texture as they are more sensitive than your finger tips. I’m not sure if it’s the way for spotting low spots in a surface. It sure is great for feeling scratches and burrs.
I was a Union Agent for the Painters across the US. Any epoxy or oil based paint can be absorbed through the skin and air directly into your blood. We had a guy doing only epoxy for a couple of years and when they did a blood test found more chemicals than blood. He lived but had to take 2 years off and no more epoxy.
NB! The video only just got done uploading. All resolutions might not be available yet. If that is the case just check back a little later :)
Another brilliant video Mads! I always anticipate your upload on a Sunday evening!

Mads, what does "NB" mean?
nota bene
@Outside & Stuff: It means please note/ be aware.
This will be your new home. Athena will be like the Goddess, beautiful and strong. Love your videos.
Thanks for assuring us of your sobriety. That deck is cracking. Good work.
Another milestone passed Mads...actual paint going on. Well done...keep plucking.
I love the creativity with the double sided tape on the piece of plastic trim as the router guide. Mads is cool as they get.
When Athena is done she'll be so secure and solidly restored you'll be able to go anywhere in her. She'll be a head turner at every port of call. You'll be proud to own her.
Paint supplier for Ferrari, Harley Davidson, and most importantly MADS! You can't go wrong with that pedigree.
Hooray, some paint on the deck. Indeed it's looking pretty dang spiffy . Now to get it all painted, that will be huge progress. Well done Mads.
You should be proud of yourself Mads. You are doing a great JOB!!!!
You have completely inspired me to look at aluminum and steel boats exclusively. You have my eternal gratitude for that. :)
Mads, you really do good work. No matter where you end up, you will always find work if you need to.
Hello from Sydney Australia Mads. Brilliant and inspirational as always. Definitely listen to the Sailing Stories podcasts of 'Brave or Stupid'. Well done, hatch openings came out nice and smooth. Your perseverance in the sanding department is admirable!
Brilliant, looks like a top quality deck

You obviously have a PHD in sanding ! Great work, SIR.

Mads, I have to say, she's looking beautiful!
That first coat of primer really shows your prep work (ahem sanding) paying off.
a really good podcast is "Making it" completely not related to boat but it is however related to DIY !
Sail life on Sundays and delos on Fridays will get me through the cold Canadian winter! After Xmas I start shopping for my "project boat" l am getting inspiration from these videos. Keep up the good work
