Nice video, but you might want to know that those Amuchina tablets are not really water purification tablets, they're a disinfectant, turns water into it and then you can clean items, fruit and vegetables with it in order to remove the bacteria. It is however possible to be used as water purification tablets, but only in an "emergency situation" as written on the instructions, one tablet in 15 liters of water (not 1.5L), as it is noxious if ingested. Still have to admit those Wurstel look very tasty!
If we could get this menu in our ration line up. It would definitely make it into the Top 10. Hats off to the Italian Ministry of Defense. Thanks Gundog for bringing this to youtube!
Mooky Mann Rations like this are very comprehensive and seem to have tons of stuff. Kind of why I really like the simplicity of Japanese rations too. Both have their merits. Cheers
the spanish breackfast rations include a toothbrushm it comes in the breackfast and is suposed to last you for the day, its encapsulated and you get a portion of toothpaste with every meal
Militars usually eat many things, because they have to save energies and gain them if they're tired, so the meal offers many things, so you'll never be tired. In Italy we don't eat that much, or we would explode
I actually got first view for once, LOL ! Was waiting on Kiwi Dudes update before bed, yours came up first. Almost noon, in Ky., I have to go in at 9:00 p.m. tonight, guess yours got watched, and Kiwi's will be for when I get off work tomorrow A.M. Night, great review, Peace, Magnum, John !!
Hi Gundog, this is the first of your videos for me :) I had a tip I wanted to share, but first say that it was kiwi who mentioned you and got me here, so I grinned when I heard you name him. Tip: Cooking fuel tablets actually work better if you take one and break it up a bit and place the pieces close to each other but not necessarily touching. Think of a Swedish log torch/stove and you get the idea. Be good!
A lot of stuff in the breakfast you may think it's unuseful are put there because will be used all the day. Chocolate and gelatine usually are put in the military vest's pocket when needed during the day.
Good review, mate! So far I've really liked what I've seen from the Italian, French, and German rations which figures because I quite love the cuisine found in each of the respective countries.
I really enjoy watching you do these kits. They remind me of huge versions on Japanese Pippin. Ookin. Kits! It must be fun to put them together. You are a joy to watch as well 🌞
Nice vid gundog. i have a top tip for cooking in a can if ya wanna try it. Take any wrapping off, bash the side in to make a big dent. When the steam inside begins to push it out, with a cloth give it a shake (to stir) & back over the heat, then agan half way thru. Then when the dents not quite fully out (so the contents doesnt spray out) crack the top, rest a couple of mins then open fully. I've found (usually) it pours out better & hasnt caught as much where direct heat has constantly been. :D
I am extremely interested in how foods are preserved throughout history and across different countries so these videos are great for assuaging my curiosity. Thanks for doing this because I would never have seen these things on my own.
Candide Thirtythree lol i love how there is no connotation that i am pushing conservatism...thats classic polarized political idealism...if there not for us their against us...also deflecting, never said anything about education.
LOL, I had to go make coffee, it looked so good! I wonder if they will ever start putting the small silicone finger mitts in the packs? Any time you have a can, it's gonna be trouble! Did the sweet biscuits taste like Nilla Wafers? They reminded me of them. What a nice meal pack! Tasty, filling, and you can always snack on the many biscottos.
No turkish delight is more dense and is covered in confectioners(powdered) sugar but kinda the same concept but if your familar with gum drops like we have in america its just a gum drop in bar form lol
In the old British army rations when they used tins instead of boil in bag they pierced the tin and sat it in a mess tin with water a lot of soldiers didn't open the tin and they exploded
Artic ration packs they where the bees knees and ten man rat packs hit the spot with salmon and tins of sweets, now days it’s crap boil in the bag or add water only thing I use water for was brew and with tubes of condensed milk even better, Italian rat packs go some way today of keeping old foods which you eat on daily basis oh the alcoholic cordial was there nip after dinner in evening.

+gundog4314 When you put down the tort with ragu and then looked at the package and it said tort and meat sauce and you said, "It doesn't say what it is" or something like that I yelled at my computer that you were just holding it in your hands a second ago! Ragu is meat sauce! Keep it up. I liked this episode especially.
Hey Please I trained with Italian Soliders, before how can I get my hands on one of these please ? I loved them when I was there they had more than we did as you have shown also I could not find the WWII Rations as you shown . ? can you also help me there as well but most of all the Italian meals, thanks so much .

LOL! I literally did ZERO prep for this review. I opened the box put it on the desk and started rolling....at least I learned a lot from the comments that my 2nd review of one of these was a lot more put together HAHA! Cheers Albert
Great, but I think the rice salad liquid is drained solely because of how salty/olive...y it makes the meal. Super interesting stuff, great to see the MREs from various nations and have a little look into the food of the army
The chocolate bar has bloomed, it happens when the chocolate gets warm and the fat starts to separate from the cocoa. Still perfectly fine to eat it has just come out of temper.
I wonder how much of that menu is thrown away. Or, shared. I'd need a nap after eating each meal of the day.The tooth picks are an add on to my SHTF stash. Dented cans worry me a bit. The Ristora Tube interest me very much. Cheers.
Big thumbs up from here in Rome! Insalata di Riso is usually eaten during the summer and is a cold dish :P but im sure it was just as delicious warm. Complimenti e un grande saluto!
Whould you like to know another intresting thing about that MRE? If you check the fuel tablets you'll find out that they are made of hexammine. Hexammine can be nitrated in order to obtain RDX which is a powerful explosive.
*he heats up the rice salad* Oh, and by the way the wurstels really do not go with the tortellini, lol Had a few good chuckles here and there. Nice vid.
Yeah, if I had it to do over again. The guy I got it was German, great guy but neither of us had a clue of what went with what or how. Perhaps next time if I get another. Cheers
Hot hot hot haha that Tortelinni Pasta looked great. I have a suggestion for you and the other MRE reviewers. Invest in a Pot Gripper like they use for gripping pot off a campfire. It would be neat tool to grab a hot can off stove and hold to pour with. Cost about 5 bucks on amazon i think.
Thank you for replying! When I was on the first gulf war, we met with some french foreign legion. They have the best MREs ever! Go more good food in there!
Just so you know, whenever chocolate looks like that, it's not because the chocolate has gone bad. When chocolate gets down to freezing and then warms up again, some sugars crystallize on the surface of the chocolate. I found out about that when I had a job filling vending machines. People would claim the chocolate went bad if we let it sit too long in the van during the winter time. So it's just indicative that the ration went through some heating and cooling cycles.
I like how for dinner he pours the large can full of liquid into the smaller sections of the tray and saved the large section for the small can of meat. I know its probably a Choch move saying something, but I can't be the only one who noticed!
I just started watching your vids yesterday after it popped up in my feed, I have never eaten ration packs but for some reason I love seeing what ration/survival food people get around the world. Anyway I just wanted to ask out of all the ones you've tried which countries do you think is the best and which the worst?
Yeah, that was a tip after the fact of the review. If I ever get another one of these I'll make sure I scour these comments for tips, translations and the like. Cheers!
Although it appears to be tasty in this iteration, I am glad that we weren't the only ones to have a Dog and Vulture loaf (the turkey) in our MREs. At least we had the good sense to rotate that one out of the menu selection.
It's more like a up-dated B1 ration than a true M.R.E. Miss the booze ration and dextros tablets. Most E.U stuff and local stuff mix in. Like I say it depends on the military budget. Good video.
Here in Canada we have canned turkey just like that we mash it up with a but of mayonnaise and make sandwiches with it. Not sure if that's done in the U.S also it's good if you hang it over a fire in the can while your camping.
+William Higgins Canned turkey sounds great, I love turkey, but I have not seen it in America. I would try a Canadian sandwich (maybe add pepper & celery).
+FootyN Games I would love to if I could ever find one. Right now it's the No.1 on my list of "Want to Try"s. If anyone out there in the Indian Ministry of Defense is watching this...Hook a brother up! lol!
gundog4314 I'm afraid they're rather difficult to come across.. d only hope would be if someone from d army kitchen follows ur channel nd sends u a piece ! lol ! sometimes I wish our system was not such a conservative one.. sigh !

gundog4314 i'm into that eveyday lol
the thing on the chocolate was sugar, it get exposed with humidity :D
Oh yeahh im proud to be italian!

Dove sono le lasagne? E la pasta al forno? E i 2kg di focaccia?
Ma sopratutto, dov'è il mini mandolino portatile?

+Steven Gutierrez Yes, I was just wondering about 2-3 kg of food missing :)
per una volta che uno vuole essere ironico :)

A differenza di altri paesi.... Mangiano come signori anche i nostri soldati... Nice Video Dude :D
This is the first time I've seen a toothbrush included in an MRE. The US should take note, it's a good idea.
the spanish breackfast rations include a toothbrushm it comes in the breackfast and is suposed to last you for the day, its encapsulated and you get a portion of toothpaste with every meal
When do these Italians have time to fight with all this food to eat? Easily one of the heartiest MRE's I've ever seen.....
Militars usually eat many things, because they have to save energies and gain them if they're tired, so the meal offers many things, so you'll never be tired.
In Italy we don't eat that much, or we would explode
I love when he puts 8 ounces of water with that tiny packet of coffee lol. They are Italian rations, not folger's crystals
😂😂😂

A lot of stuff in the breakfast you may think it's unuseful are put there because will be used all the day. Chocolate and gelatine usually are put in the military vest's pocket when needed during the day.
The energy bar is in the dinner package beacuse is there for late operations, like the chocolate in the breakfast package.
Good review, mate! So far I've really liked what I've seen from the Italian, French, and German rations which figures because I quite love the cuisine found in each of the respective countries.
Omg Italy. 😍 that condensed milk should be in every mre ever
you get similar ammounts in spanish ICR and some polish rations too
Aha you right we include a tons of milk but vitamin milk to be a stronger and energetic person
I really enjoy watching you do these kits. They remind me of huge versions on Japanese Pippin. Ookin. Kits! It must be fun to put them together. You are a joy to watch as well 🌞
Ragù is sauce with ground beef and the other was basically hot dogs. Insalata di Riso with turkey in a can...you can add it to the rice salad
Damn, Gundog! You actually startled me a bit with that exuberant "Buongiorno!" you threw out there O_O .
Jaybird196 Well at least no screaming buzzer alert this time LOL
came here from one of kiwis videos, gotta say you both do really entertaining MRE videos, haha makes me want to order some. Keep up the videos!

that coffee it's for an espresso ç_ç
SicilianScoundrel vaglielo a far capire
your supposed to drain the rice salad before eating. using the lid to make sure you only pour out the water
Well done Dog, tins of foodie challenge, you make it look great as usual. See you on the next one.
The rise salad, in Italy, is eaten cold. It's a typical summer food!
Rice* oh ok good
of course the Italy ration is incredibly massive lol
BDOT911 le tagliatelle della nonna pi.....ok la smetto
And you junk food we are massive but in America is junkkk burger chips chicken legs and others we eat vitamin food..... L'ho spento!!!!!
I am extremely interested in how foods are preserved throughout history and across different countries so these videos are great for assuaging my curiosity. Thanks for doing this because I would never have seen these things on my own.

What a nice meal pack! Tasty, filling, and you can always snack on the many biscottos.
bcgrote Oddly enough the sweet biscuits didn't really have a sweet taste, just a sweet smell
One hell of an outstanding video. Keep them coming!
Never knew you went to italy I have family in venice they own a reastaurant. Cool stuff I always enjoy the three of your guys videos
brenyn sanches I love the place and can't wait till I go back. In fact I think a whole European holiday may be in order. Cheers
gundog4314 your "buongiorno" was very funny!.Greetings fron Italy!
I believe the little gelatin is called a Turkish delight
No turkish delight is more dense and is covered in confectioners(powdered) sugar but kinda the same concept but if your familar with gum drops like we have in america its just a gum drop in bar form lol
+Colten Meyer It's actually just a fruit bar. Kind of like a dumdrop but different.
+Kristy Mcjennett Its not turkish delight
There are many diferent turkish delights, like with diferent flavours, but they are always covered in powdered sugar yes
Usaully true turkish delight is made with rose water which isnt everybodys cupnof tea but yeah i like the one with pistachios
In the old British army rations when they used tins instead of boil in bag they pierced the tin and sat it
in a mess tin with water a lot of soldiers didn't open the tin and they exploded
Mike Clas That would be an embarrassing way to get sent home from war ;) .
Ten man tea bag...!
Sounds really wrong
Artic ration packs they where the bees knees and ten man rat packs hit the spot with salmon and tins of sweets, now days it’s crap boil in the bag or add water only thing I use water for was brew and with tubes of condensed milk even better, Italian rat packs go some way today of keeping old foods which you eat on daily basis oh the alcoholic cordial was there nip after dinner in evening.

nice video :)

Southern Italy (expecially Naples) peoples drink coffe very tight, with just a bit water, almost half of a little cup

Might be nice to melt the condensed milk and chocolate together to make a warm choc spread for the crackers
I kinda want this MRE. Not just so I can try out MREs, but also for that cool little stove.
An Tran That style of stove is actually not that uncommon a design; I've seen several variations of it over the years in various outdoors-related/ camping gear catalogs. Here's one that turned up on Amazon, for example:

Ah okay, thank you very much!
Your "Go Ahead" count was way down on this video!
Yeah, gotta love Italy. We loved Rome and spent a week just walking the "streets" of Venice.
Thanks for the review. It's always interesting to see how other countries feed their troops.
CP140405 Thanks! I absolutely loved Rome minus the traffic. The pace of life, the food, the history and of course the wine!
Hey gundog I am envious of you. My grandfather came to America at turn of last century from small town in southern Italy called Piso. It is a coastal town in the " Toe " of Italy in Calabria. I traveled to many countries when I was stationed in West Germany in 70s and 80s but i never got chance to go to Italy.
Your Army unit must have been selected to field test that Top secret new piece of equipment the US Army came up with then.
The EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle. As i recall it went through it's field trials initially in Italy.
I would gladly trade my 80s era MCI meal for this Iutalian MRE, it looks awesome.
thanks
Bill23799 I was pretty lucky when stationed over there. I was on a Bundeswehr Heer Kaserne and we got free train tickets within the FRG. We drove to Venice for a long 4 day weekend. Was great till I got majorly sunburned on Ledo!
wow i bet that was great. We had a German Kserne down the road from River's Barracks in Giessen where i was. On organization day we would invite our comrades ( Rads ) from down the road to join us. They absolutely kicked our butts in soccer ( futbol ) haha . Of course we beat them handily in Basketball. volleyball was up for grabs. Neat thing was Bundeswehr unit also setup a army field kitchen for the event. Best kartoffle suppe i ever had.
you drain the liquid from the rice salad and it is served cold or room temperature it is not a hot or warm dish. I would be very surprised if it said to heat it as I lived in Italy for some time and we never ate that sort of thing heated.
Absolutely hands down the best ration I have seen yet. I would defect right now if they would have me.
Now that’s a proper MRE! I could imagine the Italian songs that would be sung during a scoff
You and Steve have become one of my surf destinations.
I wonder during NATO maneuvers how many Italian MREs get swapped. Those Italian MREs look exceptional.
The chocolate isn't "oxidised", it's just the fat content coming to the surface. It happens to all chocolate after a little while and is harmless.
+claverhouse1 It can be because of oxidation that that happens. It's called blooming. Its mainly caused by heat though.
Great video like always. Thanks Gundog!
I love sweetened condensed milk in coffee! It's so sweet and yummy. Plus, you don't have to add extra sugar.
Wow... I'm actually glad I got to see this : makes me feel better about the Canadian IMP's we get. Most of the time we are in the field they give us Flameless Ration Heaters bags too so in reality it is fast and easy to get the package open, get eating, and toss away the garbage instead of having to transfer foods out of cans.
Dude you were supposed to drain that rice salad lol, anyway awesome video!
+matteo castellani I think it's actually soup. Shake to mix it up, heat up and eat. Turkey/veg/rice with olive soup.
+bitsnpieces11 no it's not.. it's supposed to be drained.. i'm italian,we eat rice salad every summer and it's better to eat it cold😂
I wonder if the gum-drop-esque bar is anything similar to the "jelly bar" found in some aircrew emergency rations circa the Cold War?
One of the only countries that still issue tins of food that’s hearty and filling !
I was screaming "Put some Ristora in that coffee!" throughout the entire video! Other than that... Good show!
LOL! I literally did ZERO prep for this review. I opened the box put it on the desk and started rolling....at least I learned a lot from the comments that my 2nd review of one of these was a lot more put together HAHA! Cheers Albert
In the 80's the Italians also had an airplane bottle of whiskey, and a small bottle of red wine....
Contingency Preps Sometimes, I miss the 80's :) .
Yep! Me too!
+Jaybird196 savage
Cheesy Nachos Huh?
+Contingency Preps WOW!!! WHAT AN ARMY!!!!!!!!! AMAZED!!!!
So would the Ristora make the turkey or the sausages taste better? J/K. ;) Thanks everything looked delicious.
I love these all day rations....makes for a really interesting video! Great job! Im goign thru and re watching some older videos!
Be kind HAHA! Some are pretty darn rough not to mention long. But you'll definitely notice a huge change from then to now!
That is the sleekest ration pack I've seen yet. Got to give it to Italy for aesthetics.
Oh, no fair. Canned tortellini isn't sold at the stores I shop at anymore. I've made the boxed kind, but its just not the same.
Gundog where did you get the Italian ration? I am interested in buying one for myself & trying it. Thanks for the review.
Mark Vehar I got this one for a trade. I only have found them on ebay for sale but the shipping is off charts crazy of around 80 to 100 bucks.
Mark Vehar i found one on ebay that is cheap i just ordered 3 packs
gundog4314 can you not make a review of some danish 24.hour rations i have a lot of them myself and there are many menu choiches
I've never been able to get one as of yet but it would be awesome to try!
gundog4314 you can have one of mine
I shouldn't be surprised the italian and french MREs look the tastiest!
You're suppose to close the cooking range with the fuel underneath the hole, then set the can on top
Thanks for the compliments gundog
Great, but I think the rice salad liquid is drained solely because of how salty/olive...y it makes the meal. Super interesting stuff, great to see the MREs from various nations and have a little look into the food of the army

That's why there's a bag off coffee in each meal 😉
pretty sure you're supposed to drain the rice salad beforehand, that liquid is not a sauce but it's just there for the heating imo
That would make sense I was thinking it was a bit watery.
Informative and entertaining video as usual.
Thank you for your service gundog!
i love watching you man. you and kiwi are my favorite 2!
Nice video as always mate,, The pile of rations that I really want to try is building up so fast :P When I win the lottery I might explode :D
We have "meats" in jelly here in the UK but we never hear them, most people don't eat the jelly, some do though.
when i was in the italian navy, we used to mix the condensed milk with the little botles
(3) of brandy that came with the pakage

What a hearty Ration! These and the French rations put our MREs to shame!
+Jacob Conrad i Heard that americans exchange 1 of our italians ration for 5/2 for an american one
Whould you like to know another intresting thing about that MRE?
If you check the fuel tablets you'll find out that they are made of hexammine.
Hexammine can be nitrated in order to obtain RDX which is a powerful explosive.
+Guido Santoni Yep, all kinds of things and ways to make you day from good to bad. Don't try this at home kids. Cheers
Well I keep coming across your videos. I like American mres but this is pretty cool I'm subscribing.
+Cr125stin Cheers!
Have you tried the chlorine tablets before to see a difference?
I LOVE WATCHING THESE VIDEOS !
*he heats up the rice salad*
Oh, and by the way the wurstels really do not go with the tortellini, lol
Had a few good chuckles here and there.
Nice vid.
Yeah, if I had it to do over again. The guy I got it was German, great guy but neither of us had a clue of what went with what or how. Perhaps next time if I get another. Cheers
Love your videos Gundog
Hey Rocky Raab... What's up buddy? It's Fishkiller from GB here.I didn't know U were into MRE's from around the world..
Great review. A very interesting channel you got here: you gained a sub!
Wow, that's the most complex combat ration kit I have ever seen :) And that's a german speaking, you maybe all know that we love complex things :p
Could watch these videos for days
come from Steve.s channel. ..subbed. ..looking forward to seeing your video's. :)
Hot hot hot
haha that Tortelinni Pasta looked great. I have a suggestion for you and the other MRE reviewers. Invest in a Pot Gripper like they use for gripping pot off a campfire. It would be neat tool to grab a hot can off stove and hold to pour with. Cost about 5 bucks on amazon i think.
Bill23799 I have one, just not prepared as usual LOL
I have been hoping to find one cheap in resale shop. Hate to have to pay full price fr one.
Thank you for replying! When I was on the first gulf war, we met with some french foreign legion. They have the best MREs ever! Go more good food in there!
+Armando Nunez If you played with the Legion you had to be with 82nd or 18th ABN Corps or we we said "The West End Boys"
+Timothy Soen Best explanation I've heard to date and I've had chemists comment on the same topic. Cheers
+gundog4314 Looked like it had a hair stuck to it too, lol.
18:06 you're not supposed to heat it in the can. That's why you have a mess kit.
Lazza Leppi io per me AMO mangiare nelle scatole di metallo (va a gusti)
I like how for dinner he pours the large can full of liquid into the smaller sections of the tray and saved the large section for the small can of meat. I know its probably a Choch move saying something, but I can't be the only one who noticed!
I just started watching your vids yesterday after it popped up in my feed, I have never eaten ration packs but for some reason I love seeing what ration/survival food people get around the world. Anyway I just wanted to ask out of all the ones you've tried which countries do you think is the best and which the worst?
Melt a little bit of the chocolate(half a bar) in the coffee, dont add sugar, but add about 2 teaspoons of the condensate. U will love it!
Yeah, that was a tip after the fact of the review. If I ever get another one of these I'll make sure I scour these comments for tips, translations and the like. Cheers!
Sounds like the ration could use something to handle the cans when they are hot. Would the French thing work or something else?
Coffee, sweetened condensed milk plus dark chocolate bar. Could be yummy!
Although it appears to be tasty in this iteration, I am glad that we weren't the only ones to have a Dog and Vulture loaf (the turkey) in our MREs. At least we had the good sense to rotate that one out of the menu selection.
OMG! Gundog, how do you get hold of these???
Cool videos btw!
Oddly enough I got the Italian ration from a great guy in Germany. I still have never been able to find anyone that has access to these things. Cheers
+gundog4314 I am from Italy, and I wasn't able to find them :/
Thank you so much
What type of videocam do you use to make your videos? The quality is very good.
It's more like a up-dated B1 ration than a true M.R.E. Miss the booze ration and dextros tablets. Most E.U stuff and local stuff mix in. Like I say it depends on the military budget. Good video.
The Italian ration looks very good. Nice to have breakfast, lunch and dinner all in one pack.
kinluc06 ubet üver shtainei in püverst!
hiya! i came from steve1989 page! he talks allot about you! your awesome gundog! ;)
Thanks Anita! He's a real good friend and a great guy!
"Googly Boogly" 😂 this guy is awesome!!
I hope you did this video long time ago, because on the pack there is written "best before 06/09/2014"
+gundog4314 I like ur reviews.. will u do one on Indian MREs ??
+FootyN Games I would love to if I could ever find one. Right now it's the No.1 on my list of "Want to Try"s. If anyone out there in the Indian Ministry of Defense is watching this...Hook a brother up! lol!
gundog4314 I'm afraid they're rather difficult to come across.. d only hope would be if someone from d army kitchen follows ur channel nd sends u a piece ! lol ! sometimes I wish our system was not such a conservative one.. sigh !
I totally agree! LOL!
Italy gets it nobody wants to fight when they're hungry.
