How to build a cubby bookshelf with adjustable shelves. Free step by step plans and cut list ana-white.com/2...
Thank you so much, that's the first time that my 9 yr old daughter has taken the time to watch a woodworking lesson demo. Inspirational!
this is an easy little project, why hate?, if you are a professional woodworker you should not be watching this video or just do it the way you think is right, its helpful for new owners of jigs, peace
Actually I come to some of these videos for ideas, for example I want to build a shelving unit for my front room, but want to put drawers in the bottom of it, and I run my own shop lol. Furniture is a bit different than building things like simple shelves :P
Holy crap, i started off watching skate vids!? Now i know how to build a shelf. Thank you @TH-cam and @knockoffwood ! Best 1 hour and 10 mins spent today.
I love Anna White's projects. They are simple and almost anyone can do them. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.
Hi Anna ...you are undoubtedly fantastic ... what we need for basic learners is a list of equipment and their usage like how to make pocket hole etc., to understand your videoclips ...Thanks what u r doing for all
She uses a Kreg pocket hole jig, those things are essentially fool proof as long as you follow the manufacturer's directions. They are a bit pricey for drilling an angled hole but worth it in my opinion, I own one and I made one, the original works better than the one I made but they both do work. You just have to make sure all of the settings are correct and you use the right screws. What she doesn't show is you're supposed to glue those joints before you put the screws in.
Mind answering a question from a beginner? Although she uses a few jigs, she does a lot of work freehand (to a pencil layout) but the finish appears perfect. All the pieces are flush and square to each other. The 45 degree cuts mate perfectly, suggesting again that the assembly is perfectly square. Is it possible to achieve this freehand, or do you need more fixturing to make it as well as it is in this video?
+111Sylvester, if you make your cuts correctly, you will not need jigs. I freehand a lot of things and then during the "sanding to the line" process fix whatever angles I may have screwed up using say a speed square, a straight edge, and a few other essential items for woodworking. Everyone should have these tools on hand because measurements are important in all diy and woodworking projects.
Just learned to use a drill on yesterday and I am ready to install my shelves. Thank you so much! I am the Amateur Decorator on You Tube. You have really inspired me. Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!
I bought this as a gift for my friend th-cam.com/users/postUgkxcZqgZ8Ynkiz5n_LxIWRlAicuzmz5kCHG who is just starting out in the world of wood work. He loves it!! There is a great section on different wood and what to use for what kind of job and a similar section for tools as well. The projects in it are things you probably would have a go at with clear instructions, pictures, videos and diagrams throughout. Great for a beginner/amateur wood worker.
I'm so inspired by your website! I'll be starting the seesaw for a gift for my twins first birthday!!! I can't wait to share pictures of the final product!
Wow! I am just a wannabe carpenter. You make it look so easy, Ana.
Thank you for sharing this info freely! Your videos are well done and sharing materials price helps us imagine the foot print into our budgets. You feed my creativity bug. My twin and I have these tools and you make it look easy to build our own furniture.
Great shelf Ana. Good demonstration on how to use the Kreg jig!
this has to be the best tutorial on bookshelf assembly. thanks for posting. just subbed
Another beautiful project and great video. You always look so clean and fresh all the way through the videos -- ha! I end up looking like I've got a bad case of dandruff, along with the front of my clothes covered in grit and grime. This is definitely a keeper project. Thanks for the info on the shelf pin jig. What a time saver that would be.
I love how simple it is to make. Awesome tutorial.
The only thing we have in common is the name! When I grow up I want to be like you! Excellent project.
Dear Ana, I think it's beautiful and sweet how you explain all of this. I don't understand every word but I know what you mean. Take care of yourself and stay healthy. You do it all so well. Greetings Natascha
Nice job! My wife has been asking for a few book shelves for each side of our large living room window. These excellnet plans and your vid will definitely help.
As for the wood, poplar select, about 30 per board, 1x12x8', may be a little costly.
No new tools for me this month! It's my wifes turn
Thanks for sharing!!! Great instructions. Love, love, love your blog....THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!!
Love this! Will definitely have to build it once we get our house situated.
Awesome!
I am so going to build one myself after seeing this video and it so much prettier and better made than ones you can buy from the store awesome video!
Thanks for sharing your talents! I'm completely confident I can get into this hobby now!
I’m so glad I came across this video. This is good stuff. Time to get busy. Great video!!!
Excellent detailed video, plus a knowledgable, pretty, and personable host. I've seen the pocket screw jigs many times but never thought about getting one until now. Thanks for posting. :)
Ana...for a while I've been wanting to build some shelving and now that I've watched your video, I am sure I can do it. Thank you for sharing. I'm subscribing and look forward to your future videos!
Great work, very easily explained so that anyone can understand. Good Luck..!!
I really enjoyed your video, you explained very well. I look forward to watching and learning more.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT MAM ANA..
Ana you are my hero! Thanks for sharing your skills via video.. looking forward to learning and custom making wood projects!

This girl is a freakin beast!
Thank you Ana, watching this is inspiration for sure.
You are a real brilliant woman .. I love you and your work .. Big great and thanks.
I missed the molding! Between this and the plans, this is a great tutorial! This will be my first carpentry project, so I have to ask how to do the molding.
Nice job!! If mice are an issue at your house, I recommend elimination of legs or raising them high enough for vacuum, or cat to access. TFS 😊😊❤❤
Thanks for the visit!
Amazing video so helpfull
Im going to make one like this for my wife.
very nice work. i've been wanting to build my own book shelves. now i think i can do it!!! cheers!
That's a great diy project, nice job.
yes the system comes with special jig, step drill bite and even special self taping screws, it cost around $100-140 and it is from Kreg, like all the blue stuff she has in her workshop, it is great time saver and great for beginners but bit pricey System is called Kreg Jig and the best is actually the older system kreg jig k3 master system
Just great - and a nice new workshop - at least it looks like it from your earlier vids.
Me encanta Ana White, hace ver fácil la construcción de muebles. Saludos desde México
Amazing! but not everyone has all those tools :/ but it is cheaper to buy them and make A LOT of bookshelves. i love them! i have like 5 in my room and i want more lol i love seeing my room organized, I think i will make this into a summer project with my dad. THANKS!
Hi Anna, I really enjoy your video. I'm a single mother and started working little carpentry projects in my home during this year. Since I'm kind of new in this, I would appreciate if you could explain how the pocket holes are made. Does this requires an specific drill bit?
Thanks so much for the video tutorial! I found your website through pinterest...what a blessing it is! I look forward to the next video. :-)
PERFECT PROJECT! Precisely what my daughter wants us to build her. question though what did you use for the shelf holders? & where to get them? thanks We Luv your ideas/projects!
That drill has 2 gears and you are using the wrong one for the screws. The switch is the red thing at the top. Slow to screw and fast to drill.
THANK YOU SO MUCH....NEVER THOUGHT I COULD BUILD MY OWN FURNITURE....ITS COOL.....LOVE IT....:-)
Ana, this looks awesome. I have a question. Would you ever paint a project before you assemble it? Then just go back and touch up the nail heads. It seems easier to me to hit the nooks and crannies when everything is flat. BUT I'm definitely not a seasoned woodworker. Just looking for guidance.
Hi Ana thanks for this video I love it, is the kinda video I like because I can actually get to see how projects are done step by step. One question.. you are mentioning that the nails you are using are already coated with glue, what brand are you using? Thanks
Hola. I´m from Cancún. You do a great job. Felicidades!!!
In. Love.
Oh yea with the furniture too
You are the Kreg jig girl!!! Nice work but watch out for the shelf pin jig after about 200 holes they seam to be of from side to side.
Nice wood working and good video. What brand of jigs, squares/cutting edges do you use?
Thanks. I liked the video and will check out the website.
From now on all other video joiner will be very boring. You really are very nice and good!
nice,i love wood work
Another well done video. Thanks.
even as a dude... this is pretty impressive. Good Job lady!
me gusta la manera de trabajar que tenes, simple y educativo
Excellent video Ana...Does your husband do any projects in your house..
PERFECT ANA
Thank you so much ... guys ..its cool .. viewer from tobago
Thanks:)
Great video and thank you for the lesson.
It's wobbling because there is nothing in the center yet! You can always run a scrap piece of wood across the bottom to get rid of some of the wobble.
I'm always amazed to see girls do these kind of things :-) love your presentation
You are incredibly awesome! Thank you!
Just ran across your video...very nice work. Question: I noticed your work surface was able to accommodate the Kreg clamps along, what looked like, a sliding track. Is that the case? And if so, is that something that is sold or that you built?
Thank you.
You should have at least a 1/4" plywood for the back to help with keeping it more stable and not so wobbly. You can either mount it flush to the back or create a rabbit joint.
what paint do you recommend for this? interior latex of some sort or enamel or oil or? Love this design
this is so cool im telling my brother to help me build this to make a Big shoe rack (: thanks youre awsome !!
you did a great job good work
My 3yo daughter told my wife, "mommy, there is a mommy on tv and she can build things!" Thanks for being inspiring.
Excellent.
Love it, thanks Ana.
YOU-AH-VERYY-PRETTY!! :) thankyou Ana !!
Great job. Going to build it.
Sei una bellissima maestra.
Hi Ana, Question for you, I am trying to build a craftsman style bookcase around my o posts that are in living room/kitchen. Wondered what program you are using to sketch out your plan?? I am having a very hard time planning. Thank you
So you only put shelf holes in the front section or did you not show where you turned the shelf over to put shelf holes in the back too?Without two sets I can't imagine HOW those shelves are going to stay in place.Condensed version..I get..but a mention of what you haven't shown wouldn't hurt.
Pretty cool bookshelf. PS : i like your tools :)
please tell us , how did u learn this work? and when did you start it ?
hello this was my first time trying to make something like what you did..but the shelf is all whobbly. I have about 3 feet width and about 5 feet height. dont have anything in the center as yet..just the four sides with nails driven through straight not angled, but when i lifted the shelf its all whoobly..pls help thank you
awesome work from beautiful lady
Thanks for watching!
Awesome :) what kind of wood in that videos mrs ana white?
Ana, you nailed it.. haha.
beautiful womam!
Would be good with some type of pully system so you do not need a ladder to put the stuff up on the shelf. 4:31
The last bit is funny, how she said the pins are only the to hold it until glue dries, please with the amount of pins you used it wouldn't need glue to hold it in place. glue just strengthens it.
ANNA UNA PREGUNTA PORQUE NO USAS PEGAMENTOS? ES SUFICIENTE EL EMSAMBLE CON TORNILLOS ?
Very nice ana
+Enrique Lopez Thank you Enrique!
Ana White 😄😄😄
I´ll love to take a cup of coffe with you while I help you with the bookshelf :D
Better lighting would help on your videos... Very well done though : )
Thank you Ana !
Burtonsnowboards apparently likes adjustable bookshelves.
Love it!
could u tell the name of the machine that can make the crews halls in the shelves
Perfect.
Thanks for the visit!
have you ever build Cave Book Case.
You're great!
