Really nice truck, I have a 97 Tacoma with a Snugtop hi liner, Bedrug, rack and basket and a Ironman awning, We call it our adventure vehicle, The most dependable vehicle ever, The most fun has been had dry camping off grid in our Tacoma, Your Wrap is really BadAss, Love that color
I love what you did with your Tacoma! I accidentally landed on this video and I am glad I did! You made me discover some Canadian companies (being from Canada too). I now know where my next mods will come from! Thanks for the great video!
Drove it for a year without doing any mods. Everyone should do this instead of buying stuff, realizing they don’t need/like the stuff they buy, then replacing. Guys waste so much money on an already expensive hobby because they aren’t realistic about what they actually want or need.
Love the attitude, love the truck and the diy aspects! Totally agree with the vibe that you don’t have to do what the other guys on the internet are doing.
Nice build! Love the colour. I have a 2014 2.7L with old man emu shocks, coils and upper control arms. A-swell as rear Dakar leaf springs. By far my favourite mod that I've done so far for comfort is the Seat jackers from Desert-Does-it! Im 6'2 and the seating position in the Tacomas is pretty bad. The seat jackers help so much. They aren't cheap but worth every penny that I paid (and im cheap)
I just saw some bronze Method wheels today that I feel in love with and was wanting to wrap my truck in some sort of brown to match because I haven't seen that... then I came across your video. You beat me to it lol looks incredible.
Nicely put my friend . I love your Canadian attitude " go have fun with what you got ". That is a really nice build . I have an 06 4x Crew cab 6spd std .its a lot of diy and its pretty beat up . I've been on back country trips all over BC and love it . Keep posting and having great outdoor adventures .
I still want a Leer 100XR. I'm 5'2. I have an '09 DCLB. I'll definitely have more room than some 6ft guys crawling in a 5ft bed do haha. Love it. Great video
I have Elka shocks on my BMW F800S motor bike. Everyone who rides the bike says it's the best handling bike they ever road. Elka makes amazing shocks that are well engineered. Best mod to the bike period.
I LOVE your Bronze wheels. I’m still driving on my factory tires that came standard on my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed. When they wear out I’ll put a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3W , 275/75/16. Falken just came out with the AT4W, but they’re not as good on wet roads as the AT3W. We live in north central Washington state and get 5-7 feet of snow per winter. I’m sure we get more rain here in Washington than you do in Canada
Great video! Nice to see someone who actually uses there truck. I’d love to lift my truck and put slightly bigger tires on it, but the gearing is already too high for my liking. My truck is a 6 speed which no one seems to have. I just want my truck to take me to the beach so I can camp and fish.
Great truck! Super practical and realistic approach to upgrades. I just bought a 2014 access cab Tacoma and am choosing a cap and awning.. thanks for all your info
I have a completely stock 2002 with 255K on it. I think I'll add the awning and solar to start with. Then the most important thing to me is keeping warm while sleeping. Got a glimpse of your tent, what model was it? Looks rather heavy duty. Was looking at Kodiak Canvas tents 10x10 and get a diesel heater but I think that might become a pain to set up each night.
I like your setup/truck. I have a topper on a double cab tundra. I am thinking of downsizing but I don't want a four door long bed tacoma as it's just as long, basically, as a tundra. Do you think a 90# dog would be okay behind the seats. I sure with those little windows rolled down.
Hey my Canadian brother fantastic video! I’m north of you in North Pole, AK and you definitely grabbed my attention when you mentioned Elka suspension. I remember seeing it in another video but regardless I’m definitely interested in it due to the extreme cold we have here in the Interior. I have the same truck exact truck, ‘17 TRD OR Ext cab and I’ve slowly done minor mods like seat covers, led lights, mud flaps etc. I also have a Leer bed topper (I believe you referred to it as a canopy) but I bought the truck used last year w/20K miles on it with topper already on it. I also dig the drawer system you built for the bed not too shabby. I’ll have to start watching more of your videos but really like your more practical realistic approach to your build whereas some of these fellas go all crazy with big suspension, tires/wheels, re-gear. Not that I wouldn’t mind doing that but as I just mentioned it’s not realistic or practical as my TACO is also my daily driver too. With that I enjoyed the video and really like what got going on with your rig. Cheers from North Pole, AK! 🎅🏻🎄☃️🇺🇸
Unfortunately I don't have any links for the mattress. It is made by Milliard and sold on amazon under Milliard Tri Fold Mattress. The size seems to be no longer available.. As for the foam pads they are from Cabelas! Cheapest I could find.
My 23 TRD Off Road, double cab has a 6’ bed along with the Premium and Technology pkgs. It’s strange that you can’t get a double cab with a 6’ bed in Canada. They’re rare here in the USA but they are available.
Just found your channel today with this video and well done 👏 Appreciate the sentiment and tone behind it. Mine truck is for surfing and fishing and absolutely love it. Subscribing now and looking forward to future Taco content 🤙
I'm putting my Putco bed rack on my Silverado Trail Boss tomorrow, and my roof top tent should be showing up tomorrow afternoon also. I'll be exploring here around central Ontario soon enough. Subbed to your channel and looking forward to following along.
You are right, out of sight out of mind. When I was a kid I took a frisbee that was sitting in the back of a pick up. I never would have opened a door to take it. Still feel guilty after 50 years. Best not to give people opportunities to steal
Have an extremely similar setup. I'm rocking the DCLB TRD OR with the same canopy. Getting the Thule tracks this week then adding prinsu cab and canopy rack. You're the first guy I've seen also running the glossy black canopy. I opted out of the drawer system because it's too crowded once you add in a mattress to sleep on.
Ordered my 23 Tacoma, I think all I want is armor and my lift and just to a traditional tent setup (not rooftop). Debating a bed system with a softtopper,
I love this channel. Really good quality, respectable guys. Good advice. Just all around awesome channel. Keep it up guys ... also will you be selling those hats or have a online shop open up?
Thank you so much we appreciate the support! The hats and hoodies we made were in a small batch for members/family of FTR. However, we do plan on selling hats and other items in the future! Cheers! - Devin
You guys don’t get the Double Cab (4 regular doors) with the 6 foot bed north of the border? I like the look of the Access Cab and I don’t need a back seat. In my dad’s 1988 Nissan Hardbody regular cab with 6 foot something bed we could fit a 7’2” surfboard corner to corner diagonally under the high back bed topper. My dad put a bunch of carpet remainents and large square pillows. We made an Overlander and didn’t even know it. I’ve heard people get more power with regearing and keeping stock tire size. That ELKA system sounds like a good choice for our salty Hawaiian air.
Great vid. I love your wrap broh and your practicality. I was wondering your opinion on tacoma engines 4 cyl vs V6. Just in case you have a very cut and dry opinion for one over the other. My build will be for outlanding/fishing as well. I do appreciate the 4cyl mpg and im not currently interested in towing a heavy camper but i like it can tow 3500lbs which is enuff for me. But the v6 can tow a lot more and they equal out in mpg once u are actually towing(which i wont do but keepin option open for future). Thnx for classifying what is and isnt totally necessary. Your unecessary stuff are great mods and i approve. Lol.
I used carriage bolts and nyloc nuts on both mounting plates. Started by securing the front mounting plate to the prinsu cross bar where I wanted the boards to sit. I than moved a cross bar near the back of the rack to a position (as it is modular) where the mounts would line up and bolted them on. If that doesn’t make sense we would be happy to make a brief video. - James
Appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have the same mounts and not much information out there for them. Was stoked to see the way you utilized them. Sweet rig man!
The past tense of cost is cost or costed, depending on the sense you wish to convey. Both cost and costed are correct past forms of the verb cost. Get fucked Shannon 🖕🏼
it's so silly how people are attaching all their camping stuff like a shade cover and tent to the truck, and paying 100x normal price for it. What a stupid fad
Sorry folks, but I am so tired of hearing the word ' taco' it makes me want to puke! This is a TACOMA, not a 'taco'! A taco is something you eat, not a vehicle, but as always, these 'trending' words, or fads ( as we used to call them) are nothing more than just that! Get over it and call it what it is!
Let us know if you liked the video by hitting that like button! Stay tuned for more FTR Tacoma Overlanding.
Why not get a 4runner for sleeping?
It’s great to see an example of a lifted taco with stock size wheels / tires.

thanks I appreciate that! Yeah can't go wrong with a 97 taco!
I align with how you're using your truck so it's great to hear tips like you shared about the tires

Must have 35s for street cred bro
Only thing I’m doing is seat covers and better floor mats.
@@corneliuscrewe677 very reasonable

I have the same awning. The awning room is AWESOME.
"Do what you want to do, and what works best for you." 👍👍
Great build, very practical for the money spent. I’m doing a similar build with my Colorado that is mostly a fishing and family camping truck.
that’s great! that is mostly what the tacoma is used for
this tacoma's paint job looks like it smells like ✨leather✨

As a 6'3" 1st gen owner, I greatly appreciate this comment.
Fawk yeah! Wrap looks good. 6 ft bed, room to sleep and enough space for stuff.

sounds like a sick ride
First 2 things i add to a truck are a canopy and a canoe/kayak rack.
Nice setup! Nice ethos. And the flannel and beard are good too. See you on the trail!
Thank you Mike, we appreciate that :)

What’s your opinion on getting an SR and then adding an ARB locker to make it off road capable?
if it's within your budget and it'll get you out exploring, I can't see why that wouldn't be a great option 👊

Have you considered wrapping the cap brown as well? It matches all the black anyways but might look cool brown to
We have yes. We have the vinyl for it but haven't gotten around to it yet as it is up in the air if we want to sell the cap. Cheers!
I love it black
Nice setup! Do you have any links for the foam pad and the tri fold mattress?

How does the vinyl wrap hold up to branches and brush on the trail?

Great advicd about mods.
We need more 2 door builds
I like the matte tacoma and glossy truck cap. I wonder if it would also look nice otherway around. 🤔
Is "costed" a Canadian thing, or a FTR Outdoors thing?
What specific roof rack and foot pads are you using ?
The rack is the Prinsu Top Rac. It comes with feet that mount into the factory canopy rails.
