They make a pass over solenoid that is easy to install it will charge your battery in the back while driving and when you shut the truck off it separates the truck from the back battery. Solenoid runs about $40.00 bucks and works great.
This is probably my favorite setup of the dozens of videos I've seen so far. Don't usually comment, but wanted to say well done! I love how easily this can be converted from camper to daily driver as most others are much more complicated. Thanks for the inspiration!
Nice, I tore out my back seat and turned it into a kitchen. If its raining, I can cook through the window of topper, or in the front seat. I've had to battle alot of rain storms in the past. I have a matress that flips up in the back for more room. I haul 2 Mt. Bikes with me and one is an ebike, having it inside is a must.
I must admit, when you first bought the truck and said you were getting rid of the camper van, I was a bit gutted. But after seeing how you have converted the truck, I'm really impressed, and I can see why you did it. I love that it really doesn't have anything that's not necessary, and everything pulls out ready to use so easily and slides away just as easily once you are done with it. I really like it. I want it. 😂
This is the best setup ive seen and ive been watching videos trying to design something for the same purpose. The comfort of knowing im prepared. I love it. Awesome work. Only thing ill do different is mounting my topper on an electric powered track system built into the bedrails of truck box so that i can raise my topper about 16 inches straight up providing more room between the bed and ceiling because nobody likes to be limited to strictly sideways action.
I have been struggling trying to figure out a way to accommodate my dog for a future build and this gave me a few ideas. Absolutely brilliant build out!
Hey Adam, there is this really cool watch brand called Holzkern and the make very cool watches with wood and stone. I really like them so I thought why not share it with you. Sorry if the English is not perfect I’m still working on it! 👍
All u need is a 12V portable shower mate and a little bit more stored water ...all the rest is a spot on ! Brilliant setup...executed in a very practical way...thumbs up.
You have absolutely inspired my husband to the point he is making his truck into a self sufficient off grid truck. He has made me watch this for homework, I am impressed. Thank you for your awesome video.
Love the build. I’m overseas in Okinawa where trucks aren’t very popular so I chose a Toyota Hiace turbo diesel 4wd to basically do what you did to your truck. I just added a joolca hot water system and it has truly been a game changer! If you get one, get the full nomad kit. You wont regret it.
This is a great set up. I do like that the truck looks so subtle that nobody would really know what is going on inside. Wishing you many miles of happy camping. Thank you.
Awesome! As someone who finally moved out of a state they didn't want to live in, my next goal is to buy a truck and I will be using this for inspiration when I do my build!
It's such a good feeling not just having a rig ready, making you feel always prepared, but just in general. Im always trying to convince my buddies to build a rig that is ready for whatever. Also, the more prepared you are, the less competition you'll have if shtf ever does happen.
An absolutely perfect set up. I’m truly amazed how this turned out. This solution is more compact and looks far better than the van. I believe it’s much easier to get around, especially in the "middle of nowhere". Good job.
Very nice design and build Adam! You were VERY fortunate to have someone with Chris’s talent, expertise and experience to make your ideas become a reality. Among carpenters there are relatively few who are are master craftsmen that can turn an idea into a reality without detailed plans, starting from scratch with a hand drawn sketch or an image of what you have in mind. You have a lot of very good ideas and concept of what you were after but my hat is also off to Chris. The workmanship in your build is not possible without a lot of experience and the necessary tools accumulated over time. John Jensen from British Columbia.
Ha! "DOWN to 70°" and still toastie. That's all perspective I guess. At 70, that's like an oven on High for me. I'm actually pondering how to have A/C for the times it's up to 70. More so, I'll have a Buddy Heater for when its below about 40°. I'll definitely be sleeping in my truck bed when it's down to 20 for sure. Maybe 10. Actually if it's much above 70° without A/C, I'll either sleep in the cab with the engine running and A/C or might opt for a hotel at that point. Thanks for sharing your box layout. That's a really nice kitchen setup.
I have RAM1500 Built To Serve 2020 and have the same idea for set up. I have all the gear in a Decked, on top of the Decked with a BakFlip hard cover, and plastic milk crates in the back seat floor board. Looking for a topper now.

Great setup and good job to the builder . I have a tool drawer system that I built for my van, I used 3/4 plywood finish grade for all of it, the top slides in and out with routered edges to accept plywood to slide in and out, the drawers are 19 inches high and 2 feet wide by 6 foot deep, I have 2 drawers that slide in and out, the top slide holds the drawers from tipping out, all I used was furniture paste wax , the drawers are fit tight , inside the drawers I have wooden trays that slide on the top of drawers, they each weight 4 or 500 hundred pounds and I can easily pull them in and out, so don't be afraid to anyone that wants to build a drawer system that is wood on wood, with paste wax, my van has side doors that open up so if I need to get at the back of the drawers I open the back doors slide the top out and get what I need out of the side doors, for the front drawers I cut I hand hold out to stick my hand in to see slide drawers in and out, I love it and I would build it bigger and not be afraid, over time the wood slides better and better. I used glue and kreg pocket jig and screws to assemble box and drawers.
Real nice setup man! I have to say that being a pepper has nothing to do with being angry or paranoid. It's nothing more than what you're doing... being prepared for whatever may come your way. Also, I would add freeze dried meals to your pantry to add a few more days, just in case. Also, water purification would be a must have. The other must have would be a firearm of some type. Shotgun, pistol or rifle.
Very good points there. I’ve just added a water purification system and I do have a few firearms depending on what the trip is. I’ll look for the freeze dried meals

pretty cool man. I actually pride myself on showing up to my two regular camping trips per year and everyone is waiting for the next "camping gadget" I've come across. This one is by far my favorite. You should include it in your setup. I have used it for every purpose it was intended and was very impressed. I have got the baby version of your truck, a 2020 ram 1500 HEMI, full crew cab and 6.4 bed. Your has hit the nail right on the head for that I want to do. thanks for the great video and all the helpful info. looks like I'm copying you LOL
Excellent storage layout and excellent workmanship. You've given me some great ideas. There seems to be a consensus in videos I have watched that 4" mattress foam is quite comfortable. As well, I think I will opt for a high rise truck cap, or a lower storage drawer profile. My wife is quite claustrophobic so I need as much headroom as possible for sleeping. As well, when we hit the road I think I will remove the two rear passenger seats to maximize storage space in the cab.
I’d do your testing at home with the mattress. Some of the prison mattresses these guys sleep on are beyond me. I slept on the 6” memory foam tri-fold bamboo mattress before I added the topper and I found that my hips, elbows, shoulders - anywhere with the most pressure would start to ache during the night. Once I added the topper - it’s in the top 3 comfiest mattresses I’ve ever had. You wouldn’t want to go any slimmer for the drawer height either, so I recommend getting the extra height topper.
@@AdamSwords Thanks for the feedback. I have a Toyota Tacoma, so have even less space to play with. I have camped my entire life (now in my late 60s) and most of that time I was sleeping on a 1 1/2" inflatable mattress so my thought process is that a) every inch counts, b) my wife is claustrophobic, c) from a camping point of view, 4" of foam sounds luxurious to me, and d) everything is a compromise. As well, I have a sailboat, and the berths are all 3" foam and it is almost enough for sleeping comfort,, but I do feel a few pressure points. However, to your point, I will test the mattress first. This is by far best setup to be so unmarked for multi user. Dude you definitely got my sub cant wait to see what else you do to it to keep it low profile
Super inspired by this! Getting ready to build a modular setup for our Chevy Express 3500 van. Its my side hustle van so I have to be strategic about a drawer system I can pull out when I need the van for work. Love this, great work!
Hi Adam , My BF said check out the seiko sarb033 what a watch that is! And also tell Michael Blakey that my BF said I can’t believe all his watches are Rolex etc and he hasn’t got a grand seiko in his collection! Made in Japan 🇯🇵 spring drive movement is the smoothest second hand! 😍
Wrist check? Haha Love the video's, we see you. This is how people hand over interests. Same as the famous moth... with love, proud and simply being you. Respect and greets from Netherlands.
I love that truck! Everything is simply clever, great used space and a beautiful shell around. I probably would go for a little more headspace and think of an opportunity to go to the toilet or shower to really make sure camping in the wilderness for a couple of days is possible without feeling uncomfortable.
That’s actually a sick setup bro. I’m not a camper myself but today I turned 21 and definitely want to try rv camping like this in the future, inspired by your videos. Also love all the cool features you have installed. Much love from Australia 🇦🇺
I think that if you close it completely and sleep in it, you can breathe all the oxygen if you do not get up for something. Also in the summer you can get a lot of bugs inside because there is nothing to stop them getting in and even if you open a little bit of a window the mosquitoes will be happy about it. You can get a portable black shower bag. You didn't show if you have a table and somewhere to sit and something to keep you shade.
It’s such a sweet build. If I were you, I’d look at an aftermarket fuel tank. Several companies make extended capacity tanks that fit in place of the OEM tank and significantly increase capacity (I’ve seen up to about 75gal). It’s nice to be able to survive 5 days, but you need to be able to get somewhere safe AND make it back.
I'm not sure if you already are a firearms owner Adam but a nice edition for prepping/off the grid/SHTF would be a ruger 10/22 take down. Not only for defensive purposes but to harvest small game as well. From what I understand the 10/22 is legal in CA
Dammit dammit dammit. I've been doing my homework on these builds and I started watching this video. I almost turned it off thinking "good god not another dumb full drawer pull out truck camper build." The one's Ive seen so far were either poorly built, looked plain and cheap, or simply useless. Adam, you and your builder completely nailed this. You actually put a lot of thought into this and designed a lot of functionality to the build. And as someone with OCD as well, I really appreciate all of this. I'm going to build a 30" single bunk and a 10-12" side cabinet, but I may have to do something like what you did with the full drawer pull out. Congrats on a fantastic build. I especially love the slide out partitions that actually stack together in the back of the drawer. Mastery of an idea. And the cutlery and utenisl kits are a must have!
If you put a roof box on the top of that truck you’d be able to put the generator and fridge under the bed and use the roof box as clothing storage. Give that boy diesel more lounging space
They make a pass over solenoid that is easy to install it will charge your battery in the back while driving and when you shut the truck off it separates the truck from the back battery. Solenoid runs about $40.00 bucks and works great.
That’s essentially what I have now, the solar only charges the power bank and the AC is switched live so shuts off when the truck stops running.
This is probably my favorite setup of the dozens of videos I've seen so far. Don't usually comment, but wanted to say well done! I love how easily this can be converted from camper to daily driver as most others are much more complicated. Thanks for the inspiration!

I’d hate to smell the inside of your truck 😂
@Adam Swords I hear ya, but I usually cook off tailgate unless it's raining. Just bought a rear awning, so maybe I won't have to cook inside.

Awesome truck! Now your ready to visit Brent at Ghost Town Living in Cerro Gordo California!
I am!
@@AdamSwords that will be one awesome video! Woo hoo!
You remind me of that commercial guy who always say "But Wait, There's More!" lol!
Hahah
You should definitely think about a back up option for making food when it rains within those 5 days
I have an awning :)
Wrist check? Haha
Love the video's, we see you. This is how people hand over interests. Same as the famous moth... with love, proud and simply being you.
Respect and greets from Netherlands.
Thanks!
Just want to say well done Adam the truck is amazing buddy I would not change anything its perfect big thumbs up from me👍
Thank you!
This is one of the best builds I have ever seen. I am with you that I have to keep it simple as mine is also my daily driver. Sweet job.
I’m watching now and I just subscribed Thursday, October 17, 2024. I love that kitchen. This is what I need for my truck 2001 Silverado.
This is an awesome build. Love the left side kitchen/pantry set up...incredible. Solar is cool as well...thanks for sharing!
Thanks Bryan!
Very cool set up. This is almost exactly what I would like to build.
Make it so!
Great work! I'm going to do a lightweight version of this. GREAT kitchen concept!
Epic!
Very nice. Similar to Weber's Woodshop build but not as elaborate. Yours is perfect as not "too over the top!"
Thanks!
I love that truck! Everything is simply clever, great used space and a beautiful shell around. I probably would go for a little more headspace and think of an opportunity to go to the toilet or shower to really make sure camping in the wilderness for a couple of days is possible without feeling uncomfortable.
I have a rinse kit for showering 👌🏼
I want to do the same thing as this for my 6.5 ft bed. It’s a single cab but I’ll make it work
You are killing it out there....... god wants me to get out there too...
Listen to the big man!
Sorry, missed that… say whattt?…,😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I’m going to dob to Shazza !!! BTW brilliant planning and design. Very clever. Enjoy! 👏👌👍 Hugs for Diesel 😍
That’s actually a sick setup bro. I’m not a camper myself but today I turned 21 and definitely want to try rv camping like this in the future, inspired by your videos. Also love all the cool features you have installed. Much love from Australia 🇦🇺
Cheers mate!!
It's a great build .... the only doubt I have is how you cook in bad weather like if it's raining or snowing ! ...
My moon shade :)
Great van Adam. Go anywhere, live anywhere. Brilliant. (GB).
Cheers John
I think that if you close it completely and sleep in it, you can breathe all the oxygen if you do not get up for something. Also in the summer you can get a lot of bugs inside because there is nothing to stop them getting in and even if you open a little bit of a window the mosquitoes will be happy about it. You can get a portable black shower bag. You didn't show if you have a table and somewhere to sit and something to keep you shade.
😂😂 it’s not a vacuum sealed box Alex. Also the windows have built in bus screens. I have an awning, table and chairs also.
This is a sick build! Definitely like a lot of the kitchen elements
Thanks!
Was about to buy a van but now I’m really second guessing it, this is a truly amazing build, good work!
Depends what you need. I loved my van but the truck is a better option for me as a “weekend warrior”. Van would be better for longer trips.
Adam the ram rocks mate..... What a great job bud.🤘
Thanks Ron!
The setup for Diesel 💚🥰💚🥰💚🥰💚🥰💚
Very efficient and extremely functional! 5 Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How do you deal with summer heat? Do you have a portable air conditioner?
Yup!
Very nice setup sir. Looking to do something like this to my Ford F-250 and be awesome for camping, fishing, and hunting trips.
You won’t regret it!
Excellent Job Adam
Thanks Frank!
Yikes, it’s already expensive enough to fill 😂
@@AdamSwords It's cheaper in the long run as long as gas continues to move upward. FJB
@@AdamSwords If you fill up with the same frequency, it’s the same cost, you’ll just always have some reserve gallons 😉
Armadillo fuel bags for emergency
I'm not sure if you already are a firearms owner Adam but a nice edition for prepping/off the grid/SHTF would be a ruger 10/22 take down. Not only for defensive purposes but to harvest small game as well. From what I understand the 10/22 is legal in CA
I am indeed, I’ll check out the ruger 👌🏼
I have a 2022 Nissan Frontier pro 4x. Will still be in Cali in July !
And the cutlery and utenisl kits are a must have!
i have a 15' gmc canyon with the 6ft bed im going to do this setup now brother,, thanks for the ideas
Epic!!! DM me pics on IG when you’re done
If you put a roof box on the top of that truck you’d be able to put the generator and fridge under the bed and use the roof box as clothing storage. Give that boy diesel more lounging space
Yup! I could do a lot more if I wanted to go full overland. But as it is it’s the perfect daily / emergency bug out vehicle with zero prep.
Well planned and planned to suit your needs. I like seeing things that are cleverly planned out. Awesome build 👍🏼
Cheers!
I like the way you set this up, simple and soooo efficient. I love it. Thanks for posting!
Thank you! I really love it, haven’t had any issues yet!
best setup ive seen , well done
