  • In this video I build a drawer system in a 2018 double cab Toyota Tacoma. The truck is equipped with a Go Fast Campers V2. This project was all done using simple tools and minimal materials you can find at local hardware stores. Watch my build process over a few days and see the awesome finished product!

    This is exactly what I want on my tundra after I pick up my GFC v2 next month but I am not handy at all with wood work. Lol. Will def give this a shot, thanks for the informative video.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice congrats on the V2 purchase. Yeah give it a try. Even if you mess up the wood part you can still use the drawer slides again if you hire someone to rebuild the wood part. Sure, you will have wasted some time and money on the wood but the expensive slide part will be reusable.

    Nice build. I like that trick of ripping the drawer sides after routing the divider slots. Less set up and more accurate. Good work.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I can't take full credit for that... I was talking to my dad on the phone (a 50 year contractor) talking about ripping these slots with the router and he recommending doing them as a full sheet first so I would get perfect alignment of the slots later down the line during assembly. I guess you learn a trick or two with that many years under the belt.

    Great proyect, Actually the most usefull so far (searching for DIY versions of the Decked system).
    Now, A couple things I saw that I personally think could be better... The handle for the drawer is great, but if it gets stuck in the close position good luck (a simple combination of too much weight and the truck facing down an incline can do it easily). I think you could moove the slide rails up and place 2 simple handles (like a cabinet handle or something like that) so that when you gran the handles you can unlock the slides with your pinky and pull inmediatelly with both hands or with one if you prefer.
    The other one I see is that in my personal opinion, You could make it slimer (like lower) in order for it to allow as much of the original functionality of the bed as possible. why? just because having taller sides on the bed makes it easyer to place some things there without being worried about them falling out easily. Adding to it I would personally duplicate the support bracing you made for those "ammo can" cubbies in the other side, just for convenience because that way you can add annother large piece of ply and have a flat top on the same level if you want to or need it.
    Personally, I'm gonna do it very similar to your proyect for my dads build just so he can have all his stuff available, secure, dry and out of the way when he doesn´t need it. But keeping as much functionality in the bed as possible.

    I’ve been researching all day on how to build these. I have to say your system is the cleanest, esthetically pleasing and really the nicest. I have a Tacoma, but do you have a video on the Tundra? I want to build a full two drawer system. I’m gonna build a dog barrier on top, so my family can take our 4 dogs camping. Anyway, great content, cheers.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much. Hope it will be helpful. I didn’t make a video for mine. My tundra was the first one I’ve done and focus just on figuring it out. This Tacoma was the second one. You can in theory just double what I did. Just take the distance between your wheel well and split it in half. It will force you to make your drawers a certain width only. Don’t forget to account for thickness of plywood and drawer sliders. About a 1.5” per side.
      Hope it works out well for the family and dogs.

  • @edsloan8535
    @edsloan8535 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I see a lot of builds using this long drawer slide out method that only opens if the tailgate is down. A better option would be for there to be 3-4 smaller drawers that open into the back of the bed or a swing up option for the bed to access the space under the bed. This way the space is usable when the back is closed up.

    @Prospect Overland - Doing my buildout on a short bed Tacoma now, dual side by side drawers. Thanks for such a good video! I have similar slides as you (Ovis 48"). For install, did you just rest the slides on the bottom of the drawer box and then screw them into the sides of the drawer box? Then, once they were installed, did you just set your drawer in the drawer box or did you space it off the bottom a little bit? I have a sheet of 1/8" wood, I was thinking of dropping my drawer on that for the spacer.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      You nailed it! I spaced mine up just a little. I think I used a door shim maybe but a 1/8 ply is perfect! Yes set the slide in the box first and screw to the box. Then set the draw in between the freshly mounted slides and screw to the drawer. You will have to screw a few of them through the small holes in the actual metal slide. They and opening to drill through.

    Very Nice! Where is your build video for the double drawer in your Tundra?

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn’t do a video of that build. It was my first one and figured I should practice once before I film it. So this Tacoma video was my second one.

    Very nice build. Can you lmk what sliders and handle you are using and where to get them. Thank you! Great build! I'm going to do the same thing for my Tacoma. Exactly what I want for when I get my GFC.

      Hey thanks for checking out the build. Keep me posted on how yours goes. Hopefully these links below work for ya. Make sure to see if 60" works for your bed length. They make the same slide in different lengths.

    Could you link the two latches together using a riser bar or small angle iron or something? Other than that, pretty cool 👍

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah not a bad idea. Maybe even just use that grab bar as the handle to pull the drawer out as well and skip the spring loaded black handle in the middle. Or just go with only one locking slide. I just wasn’t sure of one lock would be secure enough but maybe it would be.

      Google OVIS 60” locking slides. Comes in a pair.

    Very very nice drawer system! What would you charge if somebody would want the same exact setup as the Tacoma?

      Thanks,
      These are the ones I used for my build. But make sure this length will work for your exact situation. They have other length options

      The other drawer handles and small things are just on amazon and whatever appearance and function preference you like.

      Thank you! sorry for the delay in responding. Here is a link to the ones i used. They have since come out with black slides if that color is good for your set up.
