5:32 Oi don't diss my boi Omnibian like that. Being able to turn any creature into a 3/3 frog on the fly is perfect for both offensive and defensive purposes, especially in this deck.
I have been collecting Sultai Frogs for years, waiting for when the three colour tribal commander is made. Sad that this guy isn't also a black frog, but he will be a total power house in my 99 for my future frog deck.
I feel called out at 3:52. I've always wanted to build an ingest/process deck, and I finally did build one a few weeks ago (on tappedout, not in paper). I think it's a fun mechanic that explores some unused territory, and I like that. With my rant about how I am the only player to build a deck around a mechanic that is, admittedly not that good, done, I think The Gitgrog Monster is Grolnok. They are both Frogs, Horror is a type that does not permanently effect biology (at least, not always), they both care about stuff hitting graveyards, they are both green (we have seen legendary creatures adopt another colour, think Niv-Mizzet, for example), they look very similar, and Gitrog is legendary, so I can't say that Grolnok is A Gitrog Monster. I have not looked into lore, so I could be wrong, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch.
It may also be good to put cards in the 99 that allow you to look at the top card of your (and possibly opponent's) library so you can use self mill without milling non-permanent cards or mill cards your opponents need to stop them from drawing cards. I guess something like grafdigger's cage may also be useful to lock out opponent's from capitalizing from the mill too while still allowing you to cast from exile.
And what exactly do those cards do for you in this deck? Grolnok exiles your cards, Void Attendant and Oracle of Dust interact with cards your opponents own.
Oh my god! FINALLY a decent frog tribal commander. Me and my play group was gonna make some wacky tribal decks with unused tribes, and my choice was specifically Frog tribal, just didn't know who to use as a commander!
We search a way to win with this frog in one turn (1 vs 1, maybe it's possible in multiplayer commander game) : first, we have a big part of our deck in exile with croak counters, this frog on the battlefield, some lands tapped (no more land playable). second, no cards in hand required (and obviously, no opponent's answers) Ok. So : play lotus petal and mox amber. Sac lotus petal, play exploration. Tap mox amber : amulet of vigor. Extra land : lotus field. Sac 2 tapped lands, Lotus field is untapped due to amulet of vigor. 2 ways : - in case of no card in deck, play Azusa, lost but seeking, extra land in simic growth chamber twice to play Jace, Wielder of Mysteries and win. - other way, cloud of faeries to untap lotus field and another land, then Phantasmal Image, that copies cloud of faeries. With 6 manas, you play Cloudstone Curio, a random 1-mana value creature to bounce cloud of faerie. Repeat the process to have a big amount of mana, then kill !
I mean really simic doesn't have a whole lot of good commanders outside for the value engines and most of them deal with lands and card draw, both very green and blue things. It's a bit repetitive and I would like to see more weirdos like Roalesk and Koma but that's like asking black to not care about graveyards or sacrifice mechanics. It's just kinda engrained in the colors
Right away, when the idea of Xenograft being used to make everything a Frog was mentioned, I thought of Parallel Lives (or Doubling Season, but the counter doubling isn't as useful here). Every time you'd get a token, you get two instead. Very quick and easy way to get a ton of Frogs with this. Obviously not necessary, just makes it happen faster. Every creature is a Frog, every Frog mills you for three, every milled creature is a new token, doubled up to give six more cards milled next turn. Sadly though, without the obvious solution of a "you win if you draw with nothing in your deck" card, I can't think of a good way of making this combo do anything useful. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of attacking with 2 frogs, mill 6, and with even one creature each time I mill (very likely considering things), getting more and more and more mill and creature tokens. But it isn't useful without a lame win con like Laboratory Maniac
Heyyy just wanted to say I am building osgir and have a combo card that's called mirror of fate and with the way it works with this card would it work maybe??
Tasigur's ability and Grolnok's exile feels like a nonbo. You want stuff in the GY specifically with most self mill/gy decks. Feels like Grolnok has to be a build around
nvm, I say go Group Mill Value with a few Loaming Shaman or Midnight Clock "shuffle graveyard into your deck" permanents. You get free draws, everyone else gets a (slow) clock, then make sure that you dont mill out yourself.
I feel like this actually has a lot of powerful potential, just build simic turbo ramp (not too hard) and then put in all of the 1-2 mana creatures that say etb put the top 3-5 cards of your library into your graveyard. Once you have enough mana you just mill youself, which will probably mill a mill card, and so on until you got your whole deck in exile, and then thassa's oracle. Plus, you can run a bunch of flash creatures to protect your stuff that you will be able to always have one to play with the amount of cards you will have in exile.
Got something to blame Eddie on! He confused you about Ingest and the unnamed eldrazi processor ability. Ingest just exiles top card from opponent's library, but it's really the processors you'd need to take an opponent's card out of exile
Now I'm just imagining you put every possible frog card in the deck, and then one Thassa's oracle, attack with like 10 frog and mill your deck down to near nothing and then win with the oracle, not super consistent but adds a fun challenge to the race to the bottom
I typically avoid Lab-Man effects... but I'd be close to making an exception here. I'd typically favor a Feldon's Cane or the like as a recycler for self mill, but I can't think of anything that would help if you've self milled to exile. A few effects like Abundance, Sages of the Anima, ect could keep you from losing though. Then again you could just go all in YOLO style 😂
I can honestly see this card Immediately becoming a Muldrotha staple. The mill helps and with specific cards we can always recur it from anywhere. This ensures all of our croak cards are active at all times.
I believe even if he goes once you bring him back you can play them again because it doesn't say remove the group counters from cards you own in exile when this card leaves the battlefield
I built the frog tribal and boy it was fun! I actually won against proxied animar and yarok. Put together a bunch of frog buddies with equipments and a coat of arms + silly and powerful cards like expropriate and omniscience. And with my boy grolnok I got access to the 100% of the deck. Only 1 card left in the library during the last turn. Never underestimate the power of the frogs!
My Gitrog frog tribal deck, the Gitfrog, was angry at the dissing of frog tribal. Obviously Spore frog is enough to hold up the 99. The power of cards like Witches Familiar?, Unrivaled. Of course Yargle pushes it over the top. As Gitfrog himself said in reaction to this video "Ribbit"
Instead of labman wins, alternatively you could do Words of Wilding (and just pay for a bear insteadof drawing, $3 card) or Ormos, Archive Keeper (make a huge beater while you're decked instead of drawing, 75c card) and cards such as Elixir of Immortality and Gaea's Blessing (the one non permanent I'd put in and which you'll almost never need to cast...) to reset the clock.
Ive waited so long for frog tribal!!! ive been working on it for months just cause frogs are cool! not sure if this will be the commander, would have been nice if it had black too, but its definitely an inclusion for frogmander!
The permanents exiled with croak counters will still be the same even if Grolnok gets removed, right? So, you can cast him again and then start playing the the exiled cards...
I was thinking of doing this too! Currently I have my frog tribal deck as Atraxa's Poison Dartfrogs since I put cards in there to play infect, but I really just wanted a sultai frog
@@noahz42 that’s really what I thought. A Sultai commander that cares about Deliriumish effects, mill, and combos with Dredge. It would be OP, but optimal if not build broken. Honestly I’m waiting for a Crab Tribal commander like the one Mitch created. Love me my cranky bois.
both are frogs, and they have good synergy together, who needs similarity when you have all this? also for those who want sultai frogs edh deck, imagine gitrog and grolnok on the same card like gisa and geralf, you are welcome.
Grolnok is interesting but I do wish it hadn't gone with the 'fetch counters' limitation and allowed one to play things from exile itself which could have been a little more busted. Though I know why they did it XD Exile in any format can at least bring balance to game. It's why Flash Back is powerful but is tempered with exile being harder to from but part of me would be interesting to play from exile to see just WHY it's supposed to be final if you've never been a Yugioh player.
My immediate thought is to put this in a deck with Wheel of Sun and Moon. This way, your permanents are separated into one pile, lands, creatures, artifacts, etc. etc. and your instants and sorceries are all put into your library. This way, if you end up milling your entire deck, you never actually mill your deck. You just make 2 decks for yourself, one of which will have your choice of cards in it, the other of which will never be a dead draw.
Self mill and Thassa's is the obvious thing. It can save + give protection and the wincon itself. Could even use Lab man or Jace if you wanted to.. As if Simic needed more good commanders.
This sounds like a fun deck to see, but I want to point something out. the bat tokens are black and can't be used in a simic deck, at least in an official tournaments. I maybe wrong but this was how my LGS rule two-sided cards with one side not matching colors.
Desecrated tomb is an artifact. Its not black. So it can go in any deck. Not just black.. God eternal oketra is white and makes black creature tokens. But you can only have white in an oketra deck...
I was told that even though the card specifies making a black token, that the card identify for it isn't black. Phyrexian Processor is another example, that Ive definitely used in non-black decks.
Just played a game with this deck and it is insane. Primal surge is my win condition. If it gets milled I have scholar of the lost trove to cast it and then thassa enters and its over.
Not to reignite the age-old Frog vs Ooze debate but...while I like Grolnok, I think my boi Slogurk gets more consistent/powerful effects with this kind of self-mill/landfall strategy. Slogurk's one mana cheaper, got great combo potential and can work as a beater.
This card is going to be sooooo sweet is my only creature sidisi deck! (The deck is incredibly fun I recommend it to anyone who wants an average power level brew)
This frog is better than muldortha. Cheaper to cast. Less obviously terrifying “Lol look at the frog tribal deck” Doesn’t have muldrotha’s “one of each permanent” restriction. And it protects the cards via exile, to avoid bujoka bog esc answers. The only downside is no black.
So I'm a simic player and I feel like this should have been green and some other color or blue black tbh. Or white even, white just needs more good things.
I think if you were to make a real frog tribal deck it'd have to be sultai, and lean heavily on the changelings for a +1/+1 counters deck with a mill/recursion subtheme.
You shouldn´t just look for monsters when going for frog tribal. there are also cards like frogify, polymorphist's jest or Mercurial Transformation who also fit the tribal conditions very well. Besides that modern horizons 2 brought us chatterfang and almost doubled squirrel tribal synergy cards. So chances are good that there will be more frog cards in the set, that will support frog tribal, specially if you look at its wording. I mean why should you put in a "when a frog you control attacks" card, when there are no other frogs in that set that would synergise with it.
Sad it’s not sultai to run frogs like yargle and gitrog. Would have replaced him for muldrotha then. He fills like he has prosper energy as in creating a second hand like muldrotha and impulsive draw. Glad no one can Interact with them too.
I've convinced my friend to start playing commander because of this card. He's finally sold because "I only want to make a big, dumb Frog deck."

This card is going to be sooooo sweet is my only creature sidisi deck! (The deck is incredibly fun I recommend it to anyone who wants an average power level brew)
This is so going in slogurk self mill deck
I wanna build it, can't wait for the list
This frog is better than muldortha. Cheaper to cast.
Less obviously terrifying
“Lol look at the frog tribal deck”
Doesn’t have muldrotha’s “one of each permanent” restriction. And it protects the cards via exile, to avoid bujoka bog esc answers. The only downside is no black.
Cleave looks super good!
Self mill can be fun in this deck, but I like jank and I want my frog tribal!
Simic always gets the most interesting commanders and I’m totally fine with that!
So I'm a simic player and I feel like this should have been green and some other color or blue black tbh. Or white even, white just needs more good things.
I think Grolnok is Gitrog's son. That was kind of an old horror theme. "Son of Godzilla" "Son of Kong" "Son of Frankenstein" and so many others.
Drowned Secrets is a must.
I am definitely building this deck as soon as I saw the card and name lol
Shout out to Polymorphist's Jest too, for funsies.
Tasigur, Grolnok and the Gitrog monster walk into an edh game.
I love him he is precious
Takes out sharpie, writes: partners with Yargle.
There I fixed it.
I might build this and gift it to my friend who also plays gitrog
Was Croaking Counterparr the only Frog referenced in Midnight Hunt? I have ideas now.
You can go arcane adaptation + Maskwood nexus or a bunch of shapeshifters/changelings...
I'm building this boy as soon as I can I'm very excited for the frog legions
this could go into the 99 of the tribal tribal deck you made
This could be made well into a persistent petitioner deck
*Confused Muldrotha noises*
Sad it’s not sultai to run frogs like yargle and gitrog. Would have replaced him for muldrotha then. He fills like he has prosper energy as in creating a second hand like muldrotha and impulsive draw. Glad no one can Interact with them too.
This guy is going to be best buds with Slogurk. A match made in heaven (Innistrad).
