    I just picked up a Series S the other day when I saw it on sale for $250. I have a Series X on the big 4K TV in the living room but I wanted a second system to grind in Elden Ring in the office without monopolizing the family screen. And for literally HALF the price of the Series X, I'm extremely impressed. For current games. More often than not both series S and X are using the exact same graphical details it's just you get a reduced resolution on the series S which for most people on older tv's or monitors they won't be able to see much of a difference. I think in a few years we will be seeing reduced graphics and resolution to fit inside the 8gb memory available for games on series S vs 13.5gb on the series X but for now the S is an extremely capable machine and I use mine everyday and love it. In like 2 years I'll probably upgrade to the X though.

    Having Game Pass on PC was the biggest motivator for me to pick up a Series S. There are enough console-only games in the library to make buying one worthwhile, if you don't already have an Xbox One. Sure, there is streaming available for a lot of them, but the input lag is a noticeable dealbreaker for many games.
    If I want a game enough to drop $60+ on it, I'll get it for PC or PS5. But I also have a Switch, so games being in 4k with amazing graphics is clearly not the most important thing.

Now in february 11 he has one game on disk which was 60$ and has played a couple of games from PS+ and said to me that hasn't played the console for several weeks. I on the other hand have enjoyed some great games like Forza, Ori And The Blind Forest, It Takes Two, Battlefield 5, MS Flight SImulator and more. Grabbed some games on a discount like Tomb Raider 2015 for 3$. Morale of the story? Unfortunately he got the PS5 as an expensive status symbol (at least 1000$) to sit near his TV. Snatched a Series X from Best Buy ASAP but really enjoyed my six months or so of being a Series S guy. So easy with the expansion card to move my games from the S to the X as well. I use the Series S as more of a supplementary gaming experience when coupling it with game pass for instance I didn't wanna buy many many games that have released on game pass on my PS5 but I did wanna play them so I used Game Pass on the Series S as a way of experiencing them without spending any more than $10 a month to do so thus saving money and myself from disappointment on any games that wouldn't have been worth their asking price.. One issue my buddy has with his series S is the small storage. The official expansion drives are stupidly high priced because of its small form factor, and external HD or SSD drives can’t be used for for the quick instances as the usb doesn’t read fast enough/ it just isn’t supported. No disk drive paired with increasingly large game sizes due to 4K textures makes it so it’s hard to have more than 3-4 AAA titles installed at once. I would be surprised if warzone, horizon 5 and halo infinite all fit on a series S

It’s super quite, really good graphics, Gamepass is really worth it and some of the backwards compatible games like GTA 4 runs in 60FPS. Quick resume is a really nice feature and it loads up faster than the PS5. as someone who owns both consoles:
    the Series S is definitely worth the $300 price. However, it is NOT worth the upgrade if youre coming from a One X or even a One S.
    the storage size, lack of 4K, and the process of playing One S versions of back compat games, really is a turn off.
    the only things worth the upgrade are the small form factor, the FPS boost,faster load times, and Quick Resume features.
    However, if you are someone who has never had an Xbox, or is upgrading from the 8yr old Xbox One, then it is a MASSIVE upgrade/worth purchasing.
    Now, as for the Series X, i truly feel(after spending time with it for over 6months) this IS the console to buy. with 4K TVs being as low as $250 these days, i think its safe to say a wide majority of people own 4K tvs. and if youre trying to enjoy that 1080-1440p 120hz, gaming monitors that are 1080-1440p 120-144hz are getting cheap as well. from $200-350ish.
    the Series X outweighs the S because most games that are "optimized" for them, will more than likely have All, if not more, "Next Gen Features" on the SX. and i think this is something people reeeally should know before purchasing any of the two consoles. Ex: COD Cold War has Ray Tracing, 120hz support. but only on the SX does it support 120hz(thankfully Vanguard fixed this).
    also considering the only option rn for extra SSD storage is the $200 seagate card, you might as well buy the SX.
    i think people buy and settle with the Series S to this day, because it is the more available console to buy. regardless of the huge price difference, if the SX were in stock more commonly, im positive the Series S will be sold less.

    • @TheNickers69
      @TheNickers69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I would take a Series S over my one X any day of the week just because of the load times with the SSD and more frames due to the better CPU, don’t forget the portability of it as well. Load times and frames are more important than resolution and a disc drive on the one x. Sure it might have half the room but hey it’s got an SSD over an HDD. Most people don’t buy physical anymore, they use gamepass or buy from the store. If you can’t get a series x I would still get a series s for the mean time. But regardless I have all 3 and series x is my go to on my 55 4K Samsung QN90A with Dolby atmos surround stem via hdmi arc. I use my series s for college since it’s so portable with my 144hz lg monitor. Then one x is just in the living room on the spare tv.

    The way I see it is that the Series S is a sort of Demo or Beta test if you want to test out the waters of Next Gen without fully investing $500 on a stronger platform. It’s a next gen machine no doubt and the little guy is nothing to scoff at but it’s more of a middle ground if anything.

And besides that my probably biggest issue is that I'd try to get Forza Horizon 1 and 2 as disk (since you can't buy them digitally anymore) and I wouldn't be able to play them on a Series S due to the missing hard drive...

    It's a mistake to believe that the availability of the Series S is because of a lack of popularity. It sold more than the Series X and PS5 because Microsoft prioritized the manufacturing of the Series S for the holiday shopping season. And overall, I think that it can be a great purchase. I upgraded my TV for my Series X, but if you're gaming on a 1080 display, the difference in performance on that display is less jarring than you might think, and both the Matrix demo and Forza Horizon 5 prove that point. The Series S (as well as the Series X) is also an emulation powerhouse thanks to Dev Mode and Retroarch. Everything up to PS2 and the Dreamcast are playable, as well as more than a few home computer systems. Best of all, if you upgrade to the Series X later, none of the games will need paid upgrades to be played to whatever it was programmed for on the more powerful hardware. It's a better choice than buying a PS4 because of its availability, and upgrading to either PS5 later.

      I would like to agree more if we had hard numbers, but Microsoft is holding sales figures close to their chests - so I made inferred decisions based off consumer temperature checks all over (I've produced handfuls of videos on other channels so far this current gaming generation, and seen loads of comment feedback and tweets on the topic) and broad assumptions on sales estimates published by third-parties. All these are far from definitive, but I stand what I say in the video. For certain, the Series S isn't a strong consumer choice for a slew of popular reasons I mention in the video. *Mind you, I don't agree with those reasons*, but people are vocal - you can see it even in the comments of this video. But I'd argue that's more solid a lead than guessing sale/supply numbers that off very vague profit reporting (the majority speak only for both Series consoles and legacy).
      Trust me, I agree with you on everything else. I've been fortunate to talk to people high up at the Xbox side of things and helped to the exclusive TH-camr reveal for the Series X two years ago. Their commitment to making the overall experience better is commendable and nothing spoke more about that than the boatloads of money they spent on R&D to position themselves where they're at now for back-compat. These guys know what they're doing, and the Series S is just one extension of smart moves they're making (on top of it just being a legitimately fun secondary Xbox to use)

    • @hidarimak
      @hidarimak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DNKI I've seen public statements from various Microsoft officials on production shifting towards a higher ratio of Series S units for the holiday season, and multiple statements by various news sources (quite possibly sourced from the major retailers) on how well the Series S sold comparatively during the same season. The video that I responded to only mentioned a lack of interest in the Series S as the reason why it was easier to find, and never mentioned the higher ratio of consoles being produced for the season. While I'm aware that the sales numbers would be entirely different if all three consoles could have been found in abundance, the fact remains that the Series S sold rather well, even if every last one wasn't snagged at retail.

    • @hidarimak
      @hidarimak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mattijas6525 The better console for an individual is the one which has they most games they prefer, and I've mentioned that before. That being said, your entire argument is "you're wrong because I'm right", and Sony clearly disagrees with that. The full details of the adoption rate of Spartacus isn't known, nor the details of what Spartacus will offer. Sony clearly did a flip-flop on the necessity of such a service, as well as on the value of previous generations of games, as well as their "Sony is all about generations" stance. While the performance of the PS5 games was better during the first 6 months, that gap has pretty much shrunk to nil, with the Series X having a slight lead more often than the PS5 (according to such sources as digitaltrends.com), and that's before the implementation for Microsoft's console such as RDNA2 and Machine AI. And in about 4 months, we'll start getting more in-depth looks into titles such as Starfield, Perfect Dark, Forza Motorsports, Redfall, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and likely multiple other exclusives being first revealed (typical for consoles during that time of year), before the majority of buyers can pick up either console at retail.
      If your first argument for Sony is based on your personal (not market wide) choice in games, well, see my very first point. If it's based on the lead of the previous generation, the Xbox 360 had its lead before the Xbox One, as did Sony going from the PS2 to PS3, as did Nintendo with the NES before Sega had a slight lead (albeit late in its generation) with the Genesis, and so forth. So what's backing up your statement?

    My only real gripe with MS about this gen of XBox is the use of the proprietary memory expansion card. Sure, it's easier than Sony's approach, but I think most people can figure out how to operate a screwdriver -- especially when it means getting twice the storage for the money.
