Upgrading from a PS4 to the Series S was a significant improvement for me. Playing my fav titles such as Skyrim without even a single frame skip is just amazing.
My local walmart had a shelf full of series S consoles. Made me want to buy one even though I have the X and a PS5. In my opinion its a perfect console to add to a desk setup if you don't have a pc optimized for gaming.
For real I have both but that series S is tempting cuz it’s so easy to nab 😂 I don’t have any extra room for it though so maybe someday if I have a spare tv
Ive had a series s since launch, and have been loving it ever since. Gamepass has been really good with helping me save some money that I'd usually spend on new games, plus it lets me discover games I'd normally not have bought.
I have a PS5 since launch still love it , however I bought the series S to access game pass and as a second console, I am loving it !! Great console with so many great features , it looks really good on 4K tv !
Did the same thing. Ps5 blows it out of the water with graphics, user interface, game quality, UI and much more. The series S is a good secondary/game pass system.

I bought a Series S. My solution for the storage problem is a 2TB HDD. I bought one from Seagate, the Xbox branded one, because it was on sale for 60€. I only install X/S enhanced games on the internal storage, everything else goes to the external HDD as it's playable from there. I even store some X/S enhanced games on the external HDD just because it's faster to move them from the HDD to the internal storage, than to reload the game. Assassins Creed Valhalla for example takes under 10 minutes to transfer from the internal SSD to the external HDD. Next Gen feeling with enough storage for the price of a nintendo switch OLED.
Sorry, one fact is wrong in the beginning: it’s actually an hdmi 2.1 cable. The series s can output 4k 120 - the games might and will fall back to a different render resolution though. You can for sure watch 4k streams. The tourist game will run at 4k resolution , too. The targeted marketing resolution for games was 1440p.
Series S is upscaling to 4k. It's the same way your phone can play "4k nature" videos on TH-cam, but your phone is not 2160p. If the Series S can do native 4k 120hz over HDMI 2.1, then there would've been no $299 price tag and no S model.

But the series s is atrached to a tv and it can output native 4k. You can even check this in the display settings of the series s. I know what I'm talking about because this same thing happened when the Xbox 360 got the update to upscale games to 1080p even though 360 is native 720p. But don't take my word for it. Go research it yourself and you'll see. Bottom line, the games will look better upscaled, but place it next to a Series X or even a One X with true 4k, and you'll see the truth.
I’m still rocking my 1TB Xbox One S that came bundled with Madden 17 from 2016. I’m waiting for both the Series X and PS5 to become easier to find and potentially with price cuts so I can snatch them up close together. The Series S is no slouch, and it’s absolutely worth $300.
I just bought one after years of not playing. It is the perfect small console which I see as an actual all around entertainment center. Game pass is a must and I love that it’s digital and great for travel.
This is the best idea MS have had since the launch of Xbox. Sony laughed at them, then later said sorry for being wrong. It bridges the gap between current and next gen. And the gap between owning a ps5 and owning a ps5 and gamepass box. Since its launch, I've heard 100's of ps Fanboys, loving the console. It's a good price point. Ms are onto a winner with this console. Series X is a top draw machine, not everyone needs a £450 machine. My son got it and I've got series X.
That fact that you can use Microsoft edge makes it a real game changer. I currently have my TH-cam and Facebook tabs opened on it. It’s actually kinda nuts and it spoils me for real! It’s a capable gaming console PLUS you can do some productivity on it as well. Like Word or Excel.
Bought one for travelling across the world. The performance to price and size/weight ratio are great. Nothing matches it right now. I’ll be getting a Series X soon for home because I realize that some games runs better on it but for travelling the S is just amazing

I have both the Series S and X and the S is turning into a fun little project with Dev Mode and Retroarch. It's great to travel with as well and despite the resolution difference which is sometimes noticeable depending on the game it is very fast and fun to play on. I don't think anyone will be disappointed in anything but the storage. I bought the "cheaper" 512GB expansion card and it's great (and keeps all the games I want to travel with installed with my main library being on the Series X) though I wish Microsoft would open up some competition on that front so the prices would come down.

I decided to buy it as a backup in case something ever happens to my PC... I've had a history of GPUs failing on me and now in this current market I'd be SOL AF if something happened to my current GPU.
I think it's excellent as a pc backup, considering a controller costs about $60 alone, and the 512gb memory card is about $139, it makes the actual console cheap if you think out the components like that. Every once in awhile you see cheap used ones for only like $200 as well.
Love the series S... Noticeable improvement in graphics & audio from Xboxone. And for an extra £4 on top of my Xbox live sub', game pass ultimate is proper vfm. I certainly dont view this as a budget console, its a cracking piece of kit on its own.
We did the best of both worlds. We have a Series X downstairs on the good TV for all that next gen goodness. Upstairs in the study, we have a Series S, which I can play on the 1080P tv without feeling shortchanged 😂 good for when the wife or the kids are playing on the console downstairs. We also upgraded our old Xbox One S with a SSD, so if there’s a game that is only on physical disk, I can play it up there too…..without crying from the horrible slow loading on the OG One!
I find it funny how everyone bashes on the seagate expandable memory while raving the ps5’s .m2 port when the ps5 allows only high end expensive ssds, a heatsink and you need to dive in the console with a screwdriver vs just plugging a “usb” like drive in 😂 not to mention that if you really compare apples to apples, the ps5 .m2 drive can easily be more expensive than the seagate expansion…
U can easily get a good gen4 ssd for $150 on sale. There’s even a sale rn on Samsung 980 pro lol. Some come with a heatsink, or else just get a $15 heatsink. And it only takes like 5mins to install it. Literally Just take the cover off, and then take out a few screws lol. Idk about u, but I’d gladly do that and save some $$. Most console players are casual, non tech guys, so yeah the Xbox seagate ssd probably is more convenient though.

I bought it specifically to be able to play Red Dead Redemption and Conker live and reloaded. Love the amount of older games available in the Microsoft store.
One thing to note about the storage. You can plug in an external storage device and download off of your xbox one, and series games to it. However, the series games won't run off of it. So what you can do is just juggle what games you have on your internal storage and external. It'll take a little bit of time to transfer sure, but sure beats deleting and downloading again. Especially if your data limit is small to begin with or you live somewhere without good internet to begin with.
I had a halo xbox sx, but due to hard times aold it. Now i will buy a series s. And I've played it before that's why i actually will be fine with it.. its gonna get the job done and is a little faster

rtx 3060 was more and is still more expensive than series x here. so bought one. adding in all other equivalent components i save a lot of money and can go towards game costs and gamepass subscription

I went from a budget gaming PC to an Xbox Series S and WOW, what an improvement in graphics and performance. I love my console and prefer playing games on it than on my PC- if I can get a console version of the game- with few exceptions.
Kept my XB1X Thank God, Most massive Fail EVER: This generation they left out the HDMI in port which I am now utilizing to convert both Nintendo switch and PS4 gameplay on to my 1440 P monitor through my Xbox one X. When they remodel they have to bring back HDMI in.

Great review, there's just one thing wrong with it: the console does run native 4K in a handful of lower graphically demanding games, even though it won't do it in most games.

I have a ps5 but got the series s for phantasy star online 2. It runs and looks so bad on the base Xbox one. I use my pc for my main phantasy star account but I like to chill on the couch downstairs sometimes and just grind while I listen to music.
It's more powerful than most "gaming pcs" out there🤣 every pc player I've ran into has everything on the lowest settings and takes 3 weeks to transition between races.

#XBOX ..... but yeah.... ngl.... upon it's release, I was really only wanting the Series X because I have a knack for buying the higher end models of tech (and even with cars), but after the months and months and months and months of rare availability of the Series X, I gave the Series S a consideration and tbh, I couldn't be happier... for starters, ever since the X1, and then the Switch, I've just been going digital with my games... and even more so, I'm a big advocate for Cloud Gaming (like Stadia and Luna), and so I pretty much just use Game Pass, unless there's a game on a major sale that I know USED to be on Game Pass, but no longer. The form factor is ANOTHER pro of the Series S.... it just looks like a nice, compact console that as you said can easily fit in a bag, and it can also easily be placed on your entertainment center, unlike the Series X where you really have to wonder where it would go physically and aesthetically. Another thing is that I don't have an 8k TV, so I can't really benefit from the power of the Series X, for now... The Series S really IS a console to consider... the "compromises" on paper aren't as apparent when playing it, in person! great video, man!!

I had a halo xbox sx, but due to hard times aold it. Now i will buy a series s. And I've played it before that's why i actually will be fine with it.. its gonna get the job done and is a little faster

@@derekisludicrous9203 Gamepass wasn't that big or strong by those years, in the last year recently gamepass started to include EA pass, xbox gold and by this time it also includes more important titles both indie and main series game coming out instantly on gamepass. You can't deny that gamepass is killing it right now it got to the point where even sony is going to offer a similar plan on playstation with more titles than what ps plus has

I went from a budget gaming PC to an Xbox Series S and WOW, what an improvement in graphics and performance. I love my console and prefer playing games on it than on my PC- if I can get a console version of the game- with few exceptions.

Kept my XB1X Thank God, Most massive Fail EVER: This generation they left out the HDMI in port which I am now utilizing to convert both Nintendo switch and PS4 gameplay on to my 1440 P monitor through my Xbox one X. When they remodel they have to bring back HDMI in.

Great review, there's just one thing wrong with it: the console does run native 4K in a handful of lower graphically demanding games, even though it won't do it in most games.

I have a ps5 but got the series s for phantasy star online 2. It runs and looks so bad on the base Xbox one. I use my pc for my main phantasy star account but I like to chill on the couch downstairs sometimes and just grind while I listen to music.
Glad I got my lg cx when I did. Oled makes a big diffrence also let's you play 4k 120 perfect for current gen consoles

i had the series s and honestly it was fire . hella frames so it was smooth just like a really good gpu.

It's more powerful than most "gaming pcs" out there🤣 every pc player I've ran into has everything on the lowest settings and takes 3 weeks to transition between races.
PCs are versatile, consoles are for gaming and some media consumption, it's all based on your use case

I am not talking about the hardware as it's enough for me. But the service is really awful. I am very unhappy with the service. Games are expensive, sales are misleading, refund policy is confusing, Xbox pushes you to subscribe to Live Gold membership in order to play some games online, and most of Game Pass games are either trash or too old.

Getting one for my birthday I have a ps4 now but it’s gonna be hard for me because I’ll have to spend 15 dollars a month for game pass ultimate on top of that I’m already paying $10 a month for PSplus that wouldn’t be a problem for me if I didn’t have my cousins to worry about since I play with them on ps4

#XBOX ..... but yeah.... ngl.... upon it's release, I was really only wanting the Series X because I have a knack for buying the higher end models of tech (and even with cars), but after the months and months and months and months of rare availability of the Series X, I gave the Series S a consideration and tbh, I couldn't be happier... for starters, ever since the X1, and then the Switch, I've just been going digital with my games... and even more so, I'm a big advocate for Cloud Gaming (like Stadia and Luna), and so I pretty much just use Game Pass, unless there's a game on a major sale that I know USED to be on Game Pass, but no longer. The form factor is ANOTHER pro of the Series S.... it just looks like a nice, compact console that as you said can easily fit in a bag, and it can also easily be placed on your entertainment center, unlike the Series X where you really have to wonder where it would go physically and aesthetically. Another thing is that I don't have an 8k TV, so I can't really benefit from the power of the Series X, for now... The Series S really IS a console to consider... the "compromises" on paper aren't as apparent when playing it, in person!
