I agree with what's stated here. Uber's UFP is definitely higher than Lyft's and overall I like Uber's UFP model better than Lyft's anyway. Plus for me, the demand is much higher with Uber as opposed to Lyft, so I plan to continue driving for Uber. I will definitely be a little more careful once we get the next snowstorm here in southeast Michigan. :)

Lyft promos and bonuses are designed to get you to turn off the Uber app. I only make the three ride streaks when I'm over my daily target. Other than that I run both apps and I don't care about the larger bonuses or blue, gold, diamond B.S. in either app. Dolla dolla bills yo! The only status I care about is green.
    Uber definitely pays better.

In my market after Nov 1, they both cut pay 40% for me. I live in a large urban area, so my rides are back to back on either platform. All I do is short rides, and lyft pays better for those rides in my market even with the fuel surcharge gone. In the end both are out to screw drivers. Different platforms, same objective.

    • @frankelse745
      @frankelse745 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

The prices of everything went up including Uber/Lyft rides but the pay rates for drivers went down by roughly 10%. On average a full time driver is losing $50 a day under the new pricing model. To make up for the pay cut drivers must drive back to back for the full 12 hours to make money which puts drivers at a greater risk of ruining their health and depreciate the vehicle faster. Depreciation and repairs and maintenance are big hidden costs Uber/ Lyft do not include in drivers pay.

I accepted a long ride in Las Vegas the other day that said it would pay $21.00, or so I thought. Apparently I had misread the fare. I assume it was $210.00 and not the $21.00 I thought I had seen. Passenger immediately called and told me the trip was to Long Beach, CA. I told him I had to be at work in three hours, so I would not be taking him. My question is, how can anyone drive 9-10 hours and a total of 560-580 miles for $210? I would even not do it for $500 unless I was really broke. Admittedly, I HATE driving in California. Bunch of lunatics.

The only reason I ever consider driving for Lyft is promotions. And they have to be promotions with small ride count because I cannot invest the time it takes to do 50 60 70 rides on Lyft and just lose out all that money on those rides that I'd be making if I was doing Uber. So unless Uber is just completely dead, which has been happening because a lot of out of town drivers have hit my market, I would never switch lift on unless their promotion was killer.

i have found that with Up Front pricing i went from having closer to 90-95% AR on uber to having closer to 60% after the first few weeks of driving on uber with the UFP it finally figured out what i was willing to take as my low end even on longer trips and my AR has gone back up to closer to 85% now every once in a while i get some garbage back to back and i just turn my app off and drive to where i want to be and just restart my stuff. Also at the start of UFP i noticed they started giving me less than 50cents a mile on most rides now that the algo has adjusted a bit more i am mainly seeing 90 cents to 1.50 a mile depending on how far it is. On longer trips im averaging 1.20-1.30 a mile with no bonuses which is slightly ahead of what the rate card was here in the SLC area beforehand. Overall i think that uber has been true to what they were saying with UFP being a good thing overall but i think the folks who were just accepting everything regardless of price were fucking it for the rest of us and the folks who were paying attention to stuff and started dropping our AR alot more have been rewarded with better fairs to keep us driving and accepting more rides.

Fuck $1/mile...Go for $1/min not miles. Once the algo starts giving you those, then push it out to try to get $1/min to cover both the pickup and the ride (much easier to achieve on Uber). There is way too much traffic in my city to accept rides based per mile.
As far as which is better in my market, its Uber hands down even without driver incentives because Lyft has used UFP to cut our rates across the board and they are using surge to make up the difference. An airport run used to pay $25 on Lyft now that same ride $13 with no surge, while Uber is still paying $25+.

Upfront fare is good. 75% of the total fare paid is fair. I shouldn’t have to ask the passengers what they’re paying to see if I’m being screwed. Which I am. As a independent contractor, I should have a say in what I choose for my fee.

Lyft will either go bankrupt or have to be taken over. Lyft has been trying to compete with Uber by giving cheaper rides rather than focusing on brand promotion. Lyft has been trying to compete with Uber by giving cheaper rides than Uber by gouging driver pay. Lyft has always paid less than Uber. It's a head scratcher for me why drivers even bother with Lyft. Not only do drivers make more with Lyft, they are far busier. Lyft is done done done done.

When 5 short rides per hour (4 really) at best are doable in my market and 75% of Uber UFP pings are for $6… we can do kg math and determine I’m not earning and people aren’t getting where they need to go in my car.
I’ll take $1 per mile in the burbs when it’s slow and $1 per minute in the city otherwise it’s a net loss I’m not going to chase.

Lyft/Uber looks at drivers like how Chinese restaurant owners look at a Mexican dishwasher. Why should they pay you more money when they can find someone to do the same job for less. That is why Lyft/Uber continue to deduct more percentages% from drivers fare$$ because other drivers will accept the rides for less. Example, Lyft/Uber know that is you won’t accept a ride for $6 the next driver will, so why would they want to pay more, smart business strategy. The way that Lyft/Uber will take less percentage$ from drivers fares is that all drivers across the nation go on a 3/4 strike, that will cripple and hurt Lyft/Uber’s pocket book$$$$. Because they know without the drivers their company will go bankrupt and the only way to get drivers is not take too much percentage from their fare$$. Be smart drivers together you stand, divided you will be taken advantage of by big billionaire corporation.

After driving for almost 2 years part time, i get no bonus offers that i can actually use because i have another job at those times. Uber knows this. Very dissappointing. Also, theyve raised their percentage of what they keep to 19.3% which is extremely high in this economy. I don't run standard Lyft, only XL and Lux. Minimum ride is $3 versus $4.34 for standard Uber ride. Most of my Lyft rides these days are standard ones where the customer was willing to pay more to get faster pickup. I get paid the XL rates but no $ for pickup distance and almost always a short ride. I don't accept many. I didn't even bother turning the Lyft app on last week. I'm trying to help WRIDZ get off the ground here so easier not to waste my time looking at crap Lyft offers me.

Bro, if you think that's the way it really works, more power to you. But while you're waiting for that next Uber surge, I'll be making money in between the cracks on Lyft. I'm not waiting 10 to 15 minutes for the next Uber ride, if Lyft comes along in the next three, and it's worth my time, that's the ride I'm taking.

it works that way in my market (300k)...Anytime you are available, you are supply. The less you are available the less supply Uber/Lyft has. anytime you are on a platform you decrease the chance for surge. Although your way balances it out by creating a counter surge it is also why drivers are not making good money on trips(accepting any trip on any platform just because it comes). I would rather wait 15 minutes for a good trip then 5 seconds for a shitty one. minimum trip is 4.15$ here 9 minute up drive to a 7 minute trip with a four minute wait...ping me that all day and it will never be taken. when I get a few request/xls in the morning, I know its going to surge because the rider got on the other platform and stole a driver for cheaper.

@@Keyneron I have criteria for both platforms. I don't take either drive, if it's not worth my time. No way I drive 9 minutes to pick up a $7 ride. I reject rides all day long, on both platforms. But, if Uber wants to lag and not give me a good ride for 20 minutes, I'm not going to sit around like a puppy dog and wait for Uber to give me something, if Lyft is going to give me something worth my time in the meanwhile. That's probably one of the reasons I make up to $5 more per hour then the average driver, according to Solo, anyway.

Uber is a trash, too! I did Uber for 2 months in a very busy area in San Antonio . They keep almost 30% you will spend on gas another 30% and have to pay taxes.

Never accept lyft for long rides. They paid me $56 for Cambridge to yyz 88 km. And i checked online they are charging more than $100 to riders…

    Active lyft drivers scapegoat
They attract new and Uber drivers instead take caring regular drivers .
Temporary drivers get promotions they come take that and back to Uber .
But regular lyft drivers u won’t get sh--t

The fuel surcharge is going away right after the first of the year. 🤷🏽‍♀️
But yes I have seen that Uber is higher on UFP they are both lower overall with any ride that’s not the minimum or near to. (Baltimore here for reference point)
