I was let go from a $40/hour job with unpredictable hours (and wage theft) and had to take a $17/hour minimum wage job that doesn't pay overtime. Started Uber today and made $175 in 6.5 hours which is just under $27/hour. I enjoyed it. I'm sure it gets old but I like not having a boss and making my own hours.
No, no you don't make $27phr, take out your expenses and see what you make per hour. The calculation you did is designed to make you feel better about your choice. Now look at it again with reality as your guide and you will notice you a off. Account for wear and tear, insurance for the car, Gas, food and car wash each day unless you drive around in a dirty POS. Then you will have your earnings. You will notice a very big difference. True some of it is deferred cost, wear and tear springs to mind but it must be accounted for. Uber and Lyft love statements like yours, they gloss over the real earnings and make it sound like a dream job for a lot of people. Truth is, you can make good money but only a fool ignores their expenses associated with gaining the funds.
$17 an hour minimum wage? Even the state minimum in California isn't that high. Must be in a specific city in NY or Cali. Minimum wage is still $7.25 in a lot of states.
Even if you account for the wear and tear on your vehicle and gas, the fact is…now you have the ability to CHOOSE when you’re gonna work… it’s really hard to put a price on freedom…but if you want to do the calculations on the wear and tear on the car… I suppose you could use that as your price for freedom…Let’s not forget that when you make $40 an hour, all the taxes that get taken out of your checks… I’m estimating even though you made 40 you were probably only taken home about 30 an hour… anyways, my job is $30 an hour and working 10+ hours six days a week… if I can make enough to be happy and live free and take days off whenever I want…then I say I’m totally OK with the car and holding the costs for the wear and tear and gas costs.
@basementracer7622 if you know how to do your taxes correctly and take all your possible write offs, you will get a tax return. If your paying the irs at the end of the year your missing deductions. Really, the only thing that sucks is wear and tear on your vehicle.

Hello, I have a question that you might be able to help me with, I travel from Tampa to Orlando daily and would like to make extra money, can I use Lyft or Uber to do that by only setting certain destinations, like only people that need a ride from Tampa to Orlando or that way?
"talk with other drivers in your area". not sure how to proactively do this, now that Lyft Hubs are closed. trying to work full-time (whether it's me or the other drivers) means less time to socialize; I check in when I'm on sabbatical, since I'm not in a hurry to get back on the road.
40 tips? Let me give you just 1 best tip: don’t! Don’t do it. Lyft and Uber isn’t worth it. Maybe in the first few weeks the app will give you bonuses and good paying rides (that’s how the algorithm works to lure in new drivers or drivers who didn’t drive for a few months) but after those few weeks you’ll be left with long ass drives that pays nothing. You’ll feel stupid, chested, and used. So do yourself a favor: don’t.
Can we talk about how perhaps the ride shares are getting swiped by other platforms because I just showed up to a scheduled ride and it's always with the ones where I have to call the customer and then another service. The local bus service transportation van shows up and doesn't pull off until I get on site and then picks a person up and the person whom I was to call is unreachable. This happens often so they're wasting my time my gas and then I only get paid $5 for showing up
Great tips but I’m almost positive food you buy even while online driving is not tax deductible. Only snacks and such things as water for the passengers are. Meals are unrelated to the actual business according to IRS.
That is incorrect,as a self employed 1099 employer, your meals while working are tax deductible, keep your receipts to reflect spenditures also track your gas expenses along with vehicle maintenance
Here's one: if your airport pickup is not there and you are forced to double back and they don't know what gate they are at / takes 3 texts to get that info from them, save yourself some gas and cancel on their stupid butt. I had a lady who wasn't at pickup and took no less than 5 texts from me trying to get the gate from her. Should have been the first thing confirmed. Instead, got "I'm at the baggage claim". No shit, lady! Help a guy out, maybe?
It's crazy he said un accompanied minors because I've taken so many high-school age people back and forth before I started doing strictly medium distance and airport only rides
So it is possible to have a limited zone that you drive in as well as only working at the airport? I used to drive a cab out of my local airport and I only feel safe there I don't want to drive in the city. Is that possible?
Exactly, In my city there is a boarding school (High School) that the students use Uber to and from restaurants and movies etc. on the weekends. As well as other local HS kids. You can’t actually ask for ID so if they don’t look 12, just continue on…
My tip: don't do it. Only do it on the weekends. But even than, high gas prices, crazy passengers, risk of getting into a wreck. Not worth it. There are alot better ways to make money in the gig economy. And in my opinion, rideshare is not it. Better off getting your CDL and driving for walmart or a medical courier gig.
I think it’s an excellent job to have available to fall back on. But to learn it you have to do it intensively for a while. Just choose good neighborhoods and you won’t have many bizarre experiences. You will also get better ratings, be more appreciated and get better tips. Avoid the bars at closing time if you’re a lady. Also be respectful to people no matter who they are. Be nice to people, and they will usually be nice back to you most of the time. Get educated with these videos before you go out there and you will save yourself a lot of trouble. You will also be less likely to get deactivated. It’s a great adventure and you will meet extraordinary people who you would never meet ordinarily. You will learn more about your community that you may have have ever known all your life. A movie could be made about your unforgettable adventures. You will be able to stay home or go on vacation whenever you want and no one will miss you. You can earn as much money as you want. You just have to apply yourself and do the work. But don’t work too much and don’t drive tired or when you’re burned out. If you get into an accident and you have passengers in the car, you could easily be looking at a lawsuit, which would be a huge headache for you. And you would be deactivated until the accident was sorted out also, even if it wasn’t your fault. Driving in the evening there are less cars on the roads in big cities and in my opinion less chance of getting in an accident then driving in rush-hour traffic. But you have to pay attention at night and watch out for the other drivers and keep your eyes on the road. Sticking to the airport is a good place to start for a newbie if they want to avoid trouble. Most airport passengers just are tired and want to go home. But don’t pick up anybody who says that their phone died and they’ll pay you cash or any other scam or they offer you cash. First of all you would get deactivated if the Rideshare folks found out, second of all, it’s illegal to pick people up off the street that way , also, there would be no paper trail of who the person is and you don’t know what might happen if there was an incident. And lastly, you can’t be certain they will even pay you after you take them where they’re going. Just don’t do it. But by all means follow the tips given by these seasoned drivers on the Rideshare guy and the information shared by Harry Campbell… and take a course in rideshare driving for newbies. It will be time wisely spent, and will prepare you to be ready for most anything. It’s a great adventure, and I highly recommend it.

Uber uses 3 different security measures thinking that helps them find people who are hiding there identity. its leading to false identity 9 times out of 10 its someone with a similar name. lyft approved me in 4 hours. Eh, there's a million of you guys who come into this business, treat it like a gig hustle instead of an actual business, and quickly leave with bad financial taste in your mouths... There is no business acumen barrier to entry in ride share like in other small businesses. So, there's gonna be all types who try it... and 90% will probably be what I call "car title loan" drivers. They're selling miles on their vehicles at cost or less for "pay today"... and pay right back later. Smarter people know what their vehicle costs to drive per mile and they sell driven miles at a price that adequately compensates their time after cost. 90% of ALL small businesses fail... why should ride share be any different? Most people are just cut out of employee cloth; they can't be their own boss.

@rahimsvoice Driving in general sucks.
Don’t do ride share. High expenses, low pay. You make more money working at Walmart.

Number 5, how do you know that
Most drivers are new drivers, that's why platform is still alive, because of newcomers. There are now new competition platforms to uber and lyft available...
Like what?
@@observer1256 driverless cars is one of them...
26 - sell things that you can to earn extra money? the heck? what does that mean? To the customer? through ebay? what?

Hello
I used to drive lyft for more than 1.5 years
My lyft account has been deactivated because one of the passenger said that I had touch the private part and kissed the passenger
I did not do such kind of thing with the passenger
I told the lyft safety department also but they didn't lisent to me
They believe what the passenger said and deactivated
Please help me in this case
I have given more than 7.7k rides and my rating is 5.0
I never think to do that and will not especially some is giving me and family bread
A lot of women will scam the drivers, it's best to not respond when they say very inappropriate topics. Did you have a dash cam as proof?
Ain't nobody here to help you. what's wrong with you?
Low acceptance rate equals low offers. They want high acceptance rates? They better make their offers higher. Decline all the crap offers. I delined the same ride 3 times. They added $10.00 the 4th time. Then I took it. It works! Try it, THEY CAN ABD WILL PAY MORE.
Step 1. Deactivate your Uber Account. You are done, no need to watch the video.
Uber uses 3 different security measures thinking that helps them find people who are hiding there identity. its leading to false identity 9 times out of 10 its someone with a similar name. lyft approved me in 4 hours. Samba Security is a joke and they are leading to a mass amount of people being deactivated.
don't do it! just Dont
I'll save you from watching the video.
Here's all you need to know: Don't do it. Find something else to do. Driving for Uber and/or Lyft is not worth it.
Hello, my name is Rafael and I'm going to start as an app driver here in my country (Brazil) I'm looking for a reference to be able to create my videos, and there's no better reference than the Americans, answer me and help me too, we're in the same boat together. Brazil
My advice: get out of the boat. Don't drive for Uber.
DON'T EVER DO THIS - "3. Send your passengers a pre-loaded text letting them know your 2 minutes away, and asking them to be out and ready when you arrive" you cannot tell your customers what to do like that IMHO. Letting them know you are two minutes away is one thing but telling them to be to be outside is so bad it defies logic." This is how you let people know you care more about you and your earnings than what they have paid you for, that they are no more important to you than the money they pay you. If you want to be successful and build a list of people that request you, don't treat your customers like cattle. smh
We don’t need anymore new drivers. Not in Los Angeles anyway
Who else curses at the trip requests? If you do what you say
I started getting vicious when I was doing UE's & their dirt cheap offers would pop up 🤣
In general they are unfair and don't value drivers, whom make them millionaire
I’ve heard to dress nice…
What if the driver accidentally touches your butt ?
Touch their butt in return
I heard they can report the driver

Tip #40: look for another job
Tried that im 36 and unable to hold a regular job. I have adhd and dont fit in well. I dont take bs from people. toon many jobs have people that have been around to long and the employees think they run the company. they rather get someone fired or make them look crazy to make themselves look good or get there friend your job. some people can have same job for 40 years . typically those people run everyone off because people are naturally dishonest and cant share the load and then complain that no one wants to work.
The only recommendation should be to not do it. You can make much better money getting a minimum wage job.
100% correct It’s not even close
For me I’m partially disabled & it hobby that pays a couple bucks
Lol nah you really can’t.. unless you just work way more hours lol.. you can literally look up the average earnings for driving and it’s more than minimum wage.. plus it’s way less physically demanding than a lot of crap minimum wage jobs
@@yomamma.ismydaddy216 hey momma daddy, lol , I’m really trying to understand, so your saying or feel like Uber or Lyft is better? As in better than min wage once you average it out?
Thanks
@@SmokingJoe-p6k yes the average per hr is a little more than minimum wage, but the minimum wage is still crap
@@yomamma.ismydaddy216 Put your money where your mouth is. I will bet you $10k there is no driver who is giving Uber X and Regular Lyft rides who is making even minimum wage. After you take into consideration all the costs involved, you are making less than minimum wage. Gas, Tires, breaks, oil changes, car washes, tires, depreciation, etc. etc. etc.
I got one from a driver of 4 years. Don’t do it….
Why not? What is it that so bad?
Best tips. Stop this rideshare crap. Get yourself a proper job. Dont run your car and health to the ground. Be warned before its too late.
Imagine searching a video about something just to be negative underneath it.

You folks are darn interesting. Keep it, keep 💯
@@EricHBryant He's not wrong. How do you know he searched it? maybe it just popped up in his feed.
