Had to replace the diaphragm in my Mackie Thump 15A, to my surprise, it's a Fostex!!! I'll bet the same from the 1970s...ha these are in everything from Yamaha, Peavey, Eminence, you name it, it's pretty good sounding but not much power handling or low end, I would always put a 5K capacitor on these (4.7mfd If I remember), probably not a bad idea. some companies use a light bulb, power soak. I picked up 2- for 9$ on Amazon, hopefully they will hang in there a bit. Cheers!

The original (1st generation) SRM 450's were either made in USA or Italy using RCF components. I have 6 pairs (purchased brand new) of these in my mobile DJ company. Sound fantastic and I have never had a problem with them. They are still in use just about every weekend. Newer Mackie products are NOT of the same build quality or components. Buyer beware.

In Italiy, this serie used to mount RCF componentes, same like the RCF Art300,
That's why it was the cabinet dj's used to all buy

Hi, we have a pair of Mackie SR1521z speakers and one of them has a blown HF driver (coil damaged) the diaphragm that stopped working was a replacement for another blown driver. I also noticed they use the same drivers as the SRM450, what is the best replacement that will last longer? Will ferrofluid help?

The truth is, most of these diaphragms are mass manufactured in China and Mackie just has their name put on them. So whether it has the Mackie name or is purchased as "Aftermarket", it's the exact same part and won't last any longer. The good news is, how long a diaphragm lasts is for the most part, up to you as 90% of failures are due to operator error. Burned coils are caused by overdriving and distortion. It takes relatively little wattage to produce clean highs. Re-examine your gain and frequency levels. Also if you cannot find a reasonably priced diaphragm, there are a number of (no name) 1" throat complete drivers out there which are ready to screw right in with higher wattage ratings and cheaper than the replacement Mackie diaphragm alone. We sell them all the time. As for ferro fluid, I have never found an actual use for it. It is basically just a grease. Grease is for reducing heat caused by friction, not electrical resistance generated heat. Ferro fluid may slightly delay damage but won't prevent it. Put a B&C DE 250 - 8 Ohm on that, and you won't change diaphragms anymore

@@oi3 The diaphragm should have spring loaded connections that are marked as Red and Black. Red is positive. Depending on the manufacturer they may also be marked with a + or - . However it will cause no harm if polarity is reversed and will make no noticeable sound difference.

@@alphagisonsalvador3807 the speaker is rebuild able. It is an odd size designed for that cabinet. A standard 12 inch does not fit properly and would cost more.

It must be a much older unit. Originally, Mackie used a lot of Italian RCF parts. Then , like everybody else, they went cheap. Mackie has since been sold to Loud Technologies.
