I agree with everything in this video. Except the end. You don’t need fancy aftercare cream.
keyword need, however it can help tons especially depending on skin types
Every person is different, some need products some don’t, I only used unscented soap and moisturizer, never got infected, peeled nicely, healed nicely and I’m happy 😌
People are just stupid sometimes... they don't do their research and they don't realise that a tattoo is essentially an inky wound. 🤦 These things should be common sense...
100%... you'd be surprised at the amount of feedback we get saying "I DID THIS / I DID THAT .. AND I'M FINE!!" as if they're proud of the silly things they did while healing. If you want your tattoos to look good - let it heal properly. It's not that long of a time period to heal.
@@DermDude 😅
P.S.) Thanks for reading my comment and the heart.
@@WinLindsay_CushingContent 👊🏽👊🏽
People are stupid all the time.
They don't research anything and think they are smart.
It goes for biology(people in 2024 think gender can be changed), it goes for history, it goes for mathematics, science, equality, racism, sexism and so on.
Human beings are simply stupid, though we have a handful of smart people.
Who cares do what you want😂
Aftercare= Let it breathe, clean with unscented soap trice a day and apply A&D after patting dry with a paper towel. Never had an issue, been doing this for decades. 👍🏻
Worked in a tattoo shop for a few years and this is exactly right. Keep it clean, keep it open, keep it moisturised. Nothing fancy, as long as you don’t pick you should be good
do you need to keep saran wrapping after the applying ointment?
@@savagedeo9162 Some artists use something called a 'second skin' which has a chemical healing agent and can stay on for up to 3 days after the tattoo. If the artist uses cling film / saran wrap, it is usually taken off the day after the tattoo. Once the original wrap is taken off, it is not necessary to continually apply more.
I use to use A&D but my artist told me not to use it for full color pieces so i use Aquaphor
Didn’t even realise it was an advert Until after I watched it 👏😂
All I did for my tattoos was wash it gently with dial antibacterial soap and water... apply a&d ointment after every wash.. wrapped it in plastic wrap..gave it 2 hours of breathing time before cleaning and covering..did that only for a week..the next week I didn't apply any plastic wrap..only applied ointment while it was scabbing to avoid the intense itching feeling. I had less swelling, redness, and itching..it took only a full 14 days to completely heal
Original Nivea works too, not very expensive and you can use all over your body
There are some good products out there. And many NOT good:) Derm Dude Nuclear Balm is all natural & works great. Developed by tattoo collectors for tattoo peeps.
@@DermDude you’re a 🤡
@@DermDudeyeah but you sell that product, right?
I find bepanthen baby cream to be the best stuff I’ve used, I’ve got 11 tattoos and it’s worked like a charm every time.
@@SethCorbinMusic sure do. we didn't like anything on the market so we created one for ourselves we did like. It was actually the very 1st product we made at Derm Dude. Still our favorite.
Even bigger mistake is when the artist presses the needles in too deep and the ink bleeds out.
Ive literally just had this issue. One half of the tattoo has healed fine the other is having issues, but the artist was going way to deep on the first part. My skin just rejected the ink and its got infected
damn dude. how did the tattoo turn out after the infection? did the color fade?

Heavy hands are a big issue tattooing
so dont get a tattoo if you are a construction worker. or take time off you most likely dont have or can afford. He might as well say 'dont get a tattoo unless you are a office worker'.
I never had a tottoo flake. I wrap them with plastic wrap, and gently wash the slimy white blood cells off 3x a day, re-applying the wrap after each wash for 5 days. After that you can stop applying the wrap as the white bloos cellls will stop coming to the surface.
Never use ointment as it WILL pull out ur ink.. my older tats still look pretty damn fresh for being over 20 years old.
when did u start using ointment?
I went to the gym a couple days after and my stomach piece is just fine. Tattoo artist even verified. So every artists is different, btw yes mine did heal perfect, no fading still loooks brand new on me.
I got my tattoo the next 3 days I worked all day in high 80 degree weather clear skies. My tattoos fine though I avoided the sun as much as possible and a little sun doesn’t ruin it. But I moved my arm a lot and it’s on my inner bicep constantly rubbing against my chest
So even if you workout the tattoo will be fine?
@@jaydenjoseph6648 Mines all healed now and from my experience you can just try avoiding working out the first 2-3 days. My buddy told me to just try to not touch it until it’s healed and your pretty much good. Avoid sun obviously but a little sun isn’t gonna ruin it. If it’s super detailed you should take more care into not touching it or stretching skin/causing sun damage.
I cant stop working out, Im in the Army, we work out 5 days a week,

The best aftercare product for tattooed skin is a liquid called H2O. Not many realise it but it is the best moisturiser for your skin and body.
Odd name... nuclear balm...lol also, the very best tattoo healing process comes from derms like saniderm or tegaderm... my body is covered and my colors still pop after years. Leave original bandage on for 24 hours, after that... remove it and wash with antibacterial soap. Then cover with the derm and leave on for 4-6 days. Then get in the shower with cool water and slowly peel the derm off while applying water. After that, wash again with antibacterial and use lubriderm non scented lotion, 2-4 times daily. If it itches or feels dry... apply lotion. This will heal your ink in about a week.
Just got my first tattoo and the day after I’m at work and some of the skinnier lines seem like it’s kinda “bleeding” like the inks spreading and I think it’s cause I’m sweating but like I’m at my job I can’t not just work
Get tattoos in the winter. Noted

How’s it looking? Just got my neck done & I work outside as well although it’s like 70 degrees rn
If your black the sun won’t bother you
I never used any after care stuff just raw dog it, it will heal on its own and no my tattoos haven’t faded
I work in construction just got a neck tattoo should I call off till it heals or will I be fine?
You’ll be good just cover it with a SPF dry fit polyester type of neck sleeve
Yeah except I have to work so how tf am I supposed to not sweat?
Life happens. Just keep it clean the best you can. If that means washing it 2-3 times a day... then just wash it 2-3 times a day. you do what you can to keep it clean.
I did the huge mistake to go sauna for 15 min after 4 days of my new tattoo. Is it possible to cause blown out for the lines ?
Would day 5 of fresh head tattoo safe for going back to the gym .I'd put a aftercare cream on so it has protection . Is that OK.
getting another one
Never seen bad side effects from chlorine, literally tested it when i first started tattong myself, one on the leg in the Jacuzzi and one on my arm, same time, same heal more or less no fade or longer heal or infection
Honestly it all depends with my experience I never covered up any of my fresh ink in anything I just use coconut oil or aquafora 3-4 times a day to keep it wet, my artist says a wound won’t heal if it can’t breath, a man can’t fight if he can’t breath if that makes sense plus all my ink still looks fresh to this day
I do massage for a living and I’m about to get a spine tattoo.. would I still be okay to go to work? X
I put on my dad’s shirts to cover my tattoo, he has a couple xLs and I wear a small but they’re short sleeve shirts. Would that still work if I’m outside?
How soon can I start going back to the gym after a new tattoo?
I wanna know too
I usually wait 1-2 days 3 if it’s really big tattoo that’s very sensitive
what about people who sweat easily?
I always did everything normal after it i waitet one day and then i startet livin life.
I mean i always see they as what they are just little injuries wo heal like every other injury
After how many weeks i can go in the sun. Im planning to travel to the Philippines on may 22 and im finishing my sleeve april 10 is that good?
Are there any tattoo inks that don’t have toxins like heavy metals?
I just got a new tattoo on Tuesday and i wanna know if I can go play basketball today or even get it wet bc I gotta shower if I hoop 😭
i went in the pool 1 week after my tattoos and they healed perfectly fine , it also matters on the size and shading of tattoo
I’m getting inked in colombia in sept and I inted on goin into the beach lol I will be putting saniderm on the whole tattoo so shouldnt it be fine. Isnt that the purpose of the second skin? to stop bacteria from getting in. If thats the case shouldnt I be able to go in a pool or beach without worrying about infection?
@@playboydonnie7181 sorry for my bad english, it should be fine, but i wouldnt recommend staying in the water for long. Especially since the sea has salty water and that might damage it. The thing is also that the sun will be shining on your tattoo, so make sure to put sunscreen on your tattoo. I hope this helped a little bit 😅 but unfortunately im not 100% sure, goodluck tho :)
for those with sweaty hands do you have any tips for getting tattoos on the inside of the finger? My last one smeared/ spread and wondering if it’s just due to the type of skin on the inside of the finger or because my finger was too sweaty :/
fingers are really hard. the skin is different / you're touching everything.
Is there coconut in it? Or pineapple? I’m allergic to both so just wondering
Bruh, I had two field exercises in the two weeks following my tattoo 😂 still turned out fine tho
im an apprenticeship mechanic looking to get an forearm tattoo / sleeve. do you think i would be able to go back to work the next day with it covered or not?
Jus wait 2 days it normal after that
Got my first tattoo yesterday, woke up went to the gym came home and saw this…
Don’t worry I get tatted and usually go to the gym the next day and my tattoos healed great still
@@Tao510 thanks, Im a gym rat and got my first tattoo a few days ago and was told by people online to wait a week but I miss the gym soooo much I wanna go back
I go crazy in the gym the week before my tattoo, rest the day before so I’m not sore, and rest for another 4 days afterwards.
Smart and also it matters WHERE tattoo is placed. Ie, if its a leg tattoo and you are doing arms and chest, no real issues. But if you get finger tattoos and are gripping bars they next day, that is big issue and risk .
So after 4 days you go lift again? I'm getting finger tattoos next week and idk how long I'm supposed to wait till lifting again
@@DermDude what if I got a medium tattoo on my forearm? forearms dont flex like biceps and triceps do how long should I wait before liftint
@@randominternetguy1499 I'm about to get one on my forearm as well, and I would say you're sort of incorrect about it not flexing. Your forearm flexes and moves around a lot, especially with any hand or wrist movement. I'm gonna work arms/chest before I get the tattoo on the same day, then probably take 2 rest days, 3rd day after tattoo I'll hit the gym with legs, then reaccess from there. Maybe on the 4th day I'll do back, but even with back workouts you're still gripping bars or dumbbells and moving your forearms a lot so I'm not sure.
@@xXxXcrosbykidXxXx thats a fair point you’re right, I ended up taking 3 days off after getting tattoo, bandaids off now and it looks and feels fine
How long should I wait to play football? It’s been 7 days
I got both of my sleeves when I was living in Japan and they dry heal over there. They don’t use shit for lotion or aquaphor. And my ink healed SO MUCH better
Dry heal?? Can you give a big more details?
@@am32ireland Sure, I can do that - though, it is extremely self-explanatory. Dry healing is done in a lot of places, and it just means that you do not put any aquaphor or lotion or any moisturizers. You just let it heal "dry"
@@FindingMyselfOutside I would die with itch from dry healing tbh. I get very very itchy in the healing process and the moisturiser calms that. For me the best moisturiser is drinking water though. If you keep yourself optimally hydrated it’s far better than loads or creams or moisturisers.
How do footballers maintain their tattoos? They have to exercise and practice every day, how do you suppose they cope with that?
They might take some days off or get tattooed during the off season.
Yeah athletes get tattooed when they have small breaks in schedule normally. (and off season)
You’ll be fine brother it all depends on the tattoo artist and if they do goodwork and if they stick that shit in there. you’ll be fine obviously don’t go jump in a pool then you’re probably screwing yourself, I also use to play And when I would get a tattoo, I would jump right back into practice the next day with Pads, just try to not fall on it The tattoo ain’t going anywhere unless you purposely start jumping into a pool right away and rubbing/scratching on it.
The only things I have for aftercare cream is aquaphor, and CeraVe.
I literally washed my tatts at least 20+ times a day...my aunt had one get infected it scared the ish out of me.
3-4 washes a day is more than enough, plus moisturising up to 6x a day. Your body has some natural stuff going on and washing too much will also hinder the healing process.
How many days without working out? Is 10 days enough?
3 days is enough
I have a question I got my first tattoo about three weeks ago and I informed my tattoo artist that I was a pool cleaner which meant I worked outside and I was going on vacation soon to a waterpark and he told me no problem. Well, I have breakout, acne around my tattoo area. He also didn’t tell me to cover it up and protect it from the sun. I don’t know what to do.
Bruh u played yourself
I work HVAC would I be able to put a sleeve over my tattoo and work with that on to protect it from the sun?
Saniderm and long sleeve.
Loose light clothing, cotton ideally, and should be fine. And apply a natural high quality tattoo balm (like Derm Dude) a few times a day. Would NOT suggest any of the stick on tapes being promoted these days.
@@officeroinker440 Not fans at all. Have used and tried. Nope.
@Derm Dude it's hit or miss for different folks. I don't like it either, but for further protection while working manual labor intensive jobs, I think it's better than just having an open wound.
I dont have a tattoo an never ever planning to get one
But its should be obvious that fresh tattoo is a wound and you want your whole body concentrate fixing that wound
I use “Savlon” cream…
U can’t stand outside in Texas for more than 8 minutes before you start glistening …. Wat are we supposed to do !!!??😭😩
Its been around 2 weeks and the tattoo i got on forearm has stopped pealing anymore so should i start my workouts in the gym or should wait for some more time
I think it would be alright if u workout and just be careful but if you’re unsure of the healing process, I would recommend rest it for like another week to be sure.
What if I do construction

Most the people getting these tattoos are either traveling going to work school places where it would get infected don’t let anyone touch it and avoid the sun like concerts beaches etc but naw if it gets infected always the artist fault smh
100% most important thing is KEEP IT CLEAN. Wash it multiple times a day while healing. Keep it hydrated with a good tattoo balm so it doesn't dry/scab. And definitely don't pick it, no going in public water etc. It's an open wound until it's healed.
