I obviously am not stoked on the whole situation although I don't feel like I have much to say that will add anything to it either. I still have no doubts that the vegan diet is healthful. Of course I will take into account him and his families personal experience with the diet, but that doesn't change my opinion on it. He is not the first nor will he be the last to leave the vegan diet, but for me that doesn't change my personal experience with it, the greater body of evidence showing it is appropriate for or all life stages or the testimonials of the tens of thousands that make up the SN community who are thriving as well. I wish things were different and that he and his family were still vegan, but I will not turn my back on him as a friend as many have demanded I do publicly. While I don't agree with his decision, he is my friend, inspired me to start my channel and helped me to build my career into what it is today. I want him to feel comfortable to come back to me for advice, inspiration and guidance if he ever decides to return to the plant based way of eating.

Derek dude, just said I would drop you a comment which relates to the "these are all red according to the people who name plants" since I did study botany for a couple of years in uni, and had a nerdy interest in anything that could go on my plate. So firstly, the pigment in the red cabbage is an anthocyanin which literally translates from Greek as "dark blue flower".... yes, that is correct, the "red" or "purple" cabbage is coloured by a pigment that is technically blue. Basically the intensity of the anthocyanin's colour is dependent on soil acidity, so in very acidic soil it will be dark blue or purple, as the acidity decreases so too does the intensity of the pigment, meaning at a mid range acidity it may be more reddish in appearance, and then in very alkaline soil it may even be green or yellow, looking more like traditional green cabbage (however, it is not the same plant as green cabbage). So it is very likely that red cabbage originally gained popularity in an area which had mid range soil acidity, causing it to be red in colour, and as a result it got given the name "red cabbage" which has stuck with it as it gained popularity throughout the world, even though it appears purple in most places due to the acidity of the soil. However, the pigment in your red pepper, or capcicum (if you're fancy!) is capsorubin, which is a red xanthophyll (Greek; yellow leaf) and it is a more "true red" colour, and while its intensity can vary, it varies along the yellow spectrum which is why capsicums, when ripe, are either yellow, orange, or red, depending on how strongly this pigment is expressed. I hope this wasn't the most boring comment that you have ever had! It's Saturday morning in Ireland, so I had nothing better to do!
Haha great! Thanks for sharing all this. Yes I actually did know about the anthocyanins I have actually talked about them in past videos. I forget which ones now. And yes, the ph stuff is very cool, thinking about doing a little science experiment in an upcoming video on purp... I mean red cabbage. Thanks for sharing.

Its so great you are juuust about to hit half a million subscribers... well diserved! This is the kind of positive content that should grow to spread the message.
Thank you!

Man, so close to 500k subscriptions! So happy that your positive message reaches more and more people! I bet you must be among the top 10 TH-camrs that put out 20 minutes long videos on a regular basis that are watched from the first till the last second by the viewers and not just for the first minute before being skipped. Keep it up! 😊
You don’t see many arms like those on vegans
I was waiting for a David Attenborough impression during that hummingbird scene
Can we just stop a while and appreciate Krista? She is glowing!
I love these " what I eat in a day" videos, they are super helpful and give me ideas of different foods to eat. So thank you so much. Please continue to make these videos. Thanks again, I'm forever a fan.
Thanks for being such a positive influence in the Plant Based Movement. I love your positive attitude. Keep up the great work! 👍
Your bike trail footage in the forest is super calming.
Excellent video Derek! You are the food artist! I just sent this video to my friend who is recovering from cancer. Again. She is just starting on her journey towards plant-based Wellness of course her two doctors do not have a clue. I spent three hours last night getting her started on reading food labels and watching TH-cam channels towards Whole Food plant-based lifestyle. Thanks for all your great work
Hi Derek! I’m also a vegan athlete and really enjoy watching your videos- you’ve inspired me to start my own vegan TH-cam channel! Keep inspiring ❤️

I loved the whole video. Especially the humming birds and squirrel.
I had such a stressful day at work and the hummingbirds were just what I needed
Thanks for another great video Derek! Your videos never get old - they’re such a ray of positivity and good vibes - not to mention motivating. Oh and I may have LOL’d like 5 times - like when you pointed out that red onion, red bell pepper and red cabbage are all supposedly “red” 😂-
Oh and I love crystal’s laugh!! 💜💜
I'll never let that go! Like are we going to call those hearts you left us red? No, they are purple. Well according to the vegetable namers we would. 🤪 Glad we gave you a chuckle.
Love the caterpillar, squirrel, hummingbirds, natural aspect to your garden ... amazing, environmentally friendly is the best way to go........ Also, ‘you should’ spend more time with your shoes off outside, be careful of course, but you will ‘ground yourself’ with your shoes off 👍🏻 look up Grounding and Earthing, (scientifically researched).
Food looks amazing, mouth watering veg and salad stuff ... WOW ... fantastic ideas to try out.
Thanks for sharing, Steve, UK 🙏😊 🐝
I appreciate the consistency, it is like a familiar place to relax when feeling down. Also, I appreciate the wildlife and nature content.
What for absolutely amazing shots of those hummingbirds. So clever to put your camera next to the feeder. I wish we would have these wonderfull creatures in Germany.Thank you so much for inserting those shots :)
I enjoyed this very much. The humming bird cam is so cool. The appreciation of good food and the gorgeous sunset was so up lifting.
I don't know what it is about your videos, they always make my mood great and motivate me! Love them, you're doing such a great job!
I, for one, am always looking forward to your eat in a day and don’t find it repetitive at all :)
I cracked up multiple times during the vid (especially the MJ reference). This half hour had it all, gourmet dishes, education with the watermelon radish, wildlife and sports.
Derek - we love your personality! You had us cracking up several times during this video. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and beautiful food!
Love your videos! 😊 I have no problem at all with you making similar meals everytime. I appreciate the honesty and it is still very fun and interesting to watch ❤️

You guys are so inspiring on so many different levels, the world definitely needs more people like you! I'm so appreciative of for your content and the motivation to live a simpler, healthier all around in the moment lifestyle. 🤘🦄❤
I’m still trying with my new journey on plant based! Basically I’ll eat oatmeal with walnuts! Flaxseed! Protein powder! For lunch I’ll make a fruit smoothie and a avocado! Tofu! Hummus rap! Thank you 🙏 for everything you do to help us! Like me! More help the better!
I like how you're always full of energy
I love your subtle humour! Your videos are really entertaining and dear.
I really appreciated the hummingbird footage (maybe add a few seconds worth in all your videos?)
Your food choices are not boring, they are healthy and, most importantly, they are your choices.
Great video!
Love watching you guys I've learned so much at the age of 50. Thank you. I've had autoimmune thyroid disease for half my life and my health has improved greatly eating this way especially green smoothies 4x a day inc chia, fruit and flax. So cute seeing squirrels and humming birds. Don't have either here in Australia.
Honestly one of the most wholesome channels on youtube❤️
Consistency is key indeed, don't worry man! A video from you is always worth it
I like the vibe of this channel. Really fun and positive.
Nice video. Love your food choices and lifestyle. You got in a home workout, a bike ride, vegan food, and gardening all in a day. So much good stuff. Hummingbirds and squirrels are nice too.
We have not only amazing landscape in your videos but now animals!! ♥
Ok great idea about mixing the pasta types for variety. You guys are funny together while filming. Makes for good watching! So enjoy watching and seeing your ideas for meals!
Derek Thankk you!! So much for not being inhumane to the mice they are just animals who mean no harm and are trying to survive!! Thank you for the humane traps and I have a long time now I subscribed I find your videos very fun and enjoyable thank you for being genuine!! And being yourself!!
Mr. Derek I like your videos more better than, any of the other so-called vegans. You're more down-to-earth and easy-to-follow keep doing what you doing sir God bless you take care.
Great! Glad you enjoy.
The slow motion trampoline shots really make me want to buy a trampoline!!! Looks like so much fun!
I'm so glad u know to change the hummingbird feeder every few days, bc moldy water will kill them. Also, thanks for sharing them enjoying their fresh water 😊💖
loved the footage of the hummingbirds! you and crystal always put a smile on my face :)
Consistency is a great thing!!
These vlogs are my favorite. And grocery hauls. 30 minutes is not too long. The island looks so beautiful. My BIL is in Victoria, lucky dog. And omgoodness Crystal's hair up is so cute 😊
and by the way, nothing wrong with being consistent. You are both lovely and I appreciate you....
Love the music for the hummingbirds😊
Water your plants very early in the morning while it's still cool outside to allow water reach the roots. Watering during the day when the sun is up will make the water evaporate very fast.
I love the bitter little swipe at those who name vegetables!
