most of these chords aren't really that special, nothing you haven't heard before (except some) BUT! his voicings, holy fucking shit. I've never seen anything like that. Perfection! The amount of space he choses or purposly doesn't chose to put inbetween the notes in a chord, and this beautiful chord progressions, influenced by oldschool jazz/gospel up to the contemporary movement, pure heavenly sounds. And then of course his intonation, dynamic and broad amount of vocal accents. My fingers feel unworthy, english isn't my main language and I have no idea how to express what I'm feeling. This almost feels like a strange cathedral choir service from long ago... What I love most about this is the 'drone sounds' at the beginning and near the end of the piece, and the way Jacob moves harmonically/melodically around those drones... beautiful..
To my ear, m. 28 definitely has an F1 as well in the left-hand of the harmony. Beautiful transcriptions, man. I am so glad there are people out there like you who can understand Jacob and his incredible music. Thanks!
The piano began to sing above the current of Jacob's voice, weaving in and out of a profound message to a new world - then, oh yes, and then, the full chorus of the angels chimed with their melancholy pathos. I wept.
You are super Lee! thank you for all that you are doing, Collier is an amazing musician and your are giving to as an opportunity to reach the core of his creations! thank you for all my heart...I keep following you and supporting!
EDIT 3 years later: This comment was super pretentious and also just worded terribly Jacob's harmony features many common voicings and techniques, what makes it brilliant is his ability to juxtapose these in ways which are delightfully surprising (augmented quartal shapes on maj6/7 sounds for example).
@@jonbarron8049 Man, I just spoke in a super pretentious and opaque way back then. I still do but I'm working on it. Basically, all I was saying was that he uses standard jazz piano voicings in a way that isn't quite standard. Also, some corrections on my original comment: maj6/7 is not a chord (maj7add6 is) and I'm not even sure what I meant by augmented quartal shapes. I know what quartal shapes are but stacked fourths is the more popular term so what I reckon I meant was augmented fourth shapes so in the key of C: C F# B. The reason I said shape is because it's used in so many different harmonic contexts that it isn't really just one "chord".
I don't know how normally "Jacob like" that piano intro is, but it is EXQUISITE, especially the last measure on the first page, SO haunting. Truly a gorgeous piece of music, and a wonderful look inside Jacob's mind! Thank you, June! Have you spent any time with "Don't You Know"??? I'd love to see that one of these days!
June has perfect pitch and he invested a great amount of hours listening to this song and then another great amount of hours in the transcription. And he did the same thing with all his other transcriptions.
Wow...what a wonderful transcription. Just amazing! I'm hearing A-natural (grace note) in the top line of ms. 38, but maybe my ear is playing tricks on me... : )
Woods and Creek by Bon Iver are QUAKING (both obviously still beautiful, but this is really different to a lot of Jacob's other arrangements, and it's fascinating to hear his voice in this context! Also I want June's ears lmao)
See the original Maida Vale session. He sings into to his harmoniser which splits his single vocal line into the parts played by his fingers. That's why it sounds slightly unnatural.
At 3:27, in the first bar, why call it F24/A? is there a specific reason not to call it some sort of 11 instead of 24? just curious becouse I've never seen that (24) before! :) Btw, Great job with the transcription! I love your Channel :)
I hate to put words in June's mouth, but I strongly suspect he meant to write the two digits vertically instead of horizontally - i.e. an added second and fourth, rather than a twenty-fourth (which is just a third + three octaves). It might be a limitation of Sibelius' chord symbol recognition.
Simon Jämtgård Also, when you notate a chord as an 11, nomenclature dictates that the chord also has a seventh. It's not a sus chord, so it's really just add 2/add 4. Perhaps a bit too ostentatious to write out on the transcription.

I know I'm late to the party but I almost get a cathedral pipe organ vibe from the harmonizer especially at the beginning, just with the low boomy bass and the relatively "churchy" and "normal" chords, and it seems to slowly evolve into a more jazzy style. At least that's the way I hear it :)
