      BMW Fanatic you think you could make a video on how to replace vanos solenoids? Mine are going out and I've already had them cleaned. I have the solenoids sitting at home and I want to replace them at the same time I do my coils. If you could post a video on how to diy those, I'd really appreciate it! Also boost solenoids if you know how to do those, but mainly the vanos solenoids

      I've heard this as well. I'm a new owner of a 1m here in UK. Is it true it's a good idea to upgrade the oem plastic charge pipe to a metal one, even if car is stock?

    • @kennypowers4330
      @kennypowers4330 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve SAS yes, huge weak point on the n54. I would get a blow off valve and replace you oem diverter valves as well if you plan on making power. Sounds nice as well.

    • @stevesas632
      @stevesas632 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kennypowers4330 not planning on tuning. I think a 1M is too special to mess with, & will be worth more left as stock. Just wondered if the metal charge pipe was still worth doing if oem one is weak.

    • @kennypowers4330
      @kennypowers4330 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve SAS also depends on how you drive your car too I guess, it’s a plastic piece next to the engine so over time if the car is driven it will break, I’ve read a bunch of people saying there charge pipe blew up on stock boost. It’s a cheap fix and looks/sounds cool and I see it more of preventative maintenance then a performance upgrade really. At least on your platform.

    • @stevesas632
      @stevesas632 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The other thing I would say is also change the Air filter to a K&N around $55. Or cold air intake. But just changing the filter I noticed a difference in the exhaust sounds (Msport Exhaust). extra air flow never hurts.

    i have a 2013 x5 n55 engine and got the car last summer. at 85k miles now. had misfire last sunday and after getting the socket tool and researching i finally got the spark plugs replaced w/ the bosch plugs it came with. i replaced ONE Delphi coil that had burn marks on it and still gave me. misfire after plugs. now it;s back to normal again. i didn't have a torque wrench. thinking about replacing all the coils and when i do resetting the plugs with the torque wrench. gonna clean the MAF filter tomorrow, but things are running well again. my first BMW and I'm learning as I go. If you have misfires, you have a bad tune.
    I have run a stage 2 ESS custom tune for 70000+ kilometers, and I drive HARD on the Autobahn.
    Never had a misfire, never changed coil packs or plugs.
    Only thing I've had to change was the HPFP, one time.
    Get a proper ECU tune. that's the key. That way the tune have full access to all control systems and sensors and can adapt accordingly, unlike piggybacks.

    • @BMWFanatic
      @BMWFanatic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      zemekiel Has nothing to do with a bad tune. If you misfire, it's either your plugs, coils, injectors, fuel pumps. You would start with the easiest thing first (after scanning it). Plus, you need to change out plugs every 15k miles.

    • @zemekiel
      @zemekiel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, I get it, you're the expert.
      So what you are saying is incorrectly changed ignition timing from a tune cannot cause misfires.
      Ok, this is good to know.
      I haven't changed plugs...

    I recently bought a 2010 335i with 90k miles. It was owned by an older lady in her 50's and did all her maintenance at the BMW dealer. Looking at the carfax, the coilpacks have never been replaced and the coils you linked are on sale at the moment for a pretty big decrease from their original price. I don't know if that price is always like that, but it seems like a nice deal. I'm looking to do some bolt-on upgrades (downpipes, intercooler, intake, etc) so would it be worth it to just buy these packs and replace the old ones, since it's at a nice price? Thanks!

    As always, thank you for your videos and all the info that you provide. I just did my turbo upgrade and running jb4 map 5. But as boost rise, I'm getting a engine symbol in the center of the gauge cluster. Code reads 3100 low boost engaged. Would this have to do with the spark plugs? The car drives fine, it's not shaking or anything like I hear some people say there's do. I also have to add, I ran the car on map 2 and got the same code but then tried map 5 and all was ok until today, I added some E85 and now I'm getting this code on map 5 as well.

      Ariano Robb Could be wastgates, vacuum lines, or other related boost leaks. I would check vacuum lines and all hoses, Intercooler, etc first

    DUDE, love the videos, i have a question; do you need to do a tune if you install charge pipe, charge pipe with BOV, or if you change out your intake for say the BMS N55 blue intake? Is the tune required, or can i run it without the tune? and lastly, can the JB4 (when i choose to get it) do the tuning for it myself or must I pay for each tune I do to my 2011 BMW N55? Thank you so much, keep up the vids bro.

    Great info, totally forgot about changing the coil packs, I got the Bosch OE replacement spark plugs (ZGR6STEZ) are those any good?

    • @BMWFanatic
      @BMWFanatic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A. Alvarez I tested them and they are a little different vs. the BMW OE plugs. I never had an issue with the regular Bosch ones, but I'm doing it for my piece of mine (and especially since they are different a little). The electrode is a different shape between the two, so it's not "exactly" the same part of you catch my drift

      Ariano Robb They're good for high HP, but stock ones do just fine and are less finicky with gapping them perfect vs. NGK. I tried the NGK awhile ago and had nothing but issues. Changed back and have been issue free since

  • @tytlyf
    @tytlyf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey! Where's your cowl filters? JK, I removed mine recently. Waste of money if not at the track.
    I replaced my coils/plugs a month ago with the same setup. Eldor's with OEM plugs with stock gap.
    I'm surprised you didn't include the chargepipe in your video. I'd say that's more important than plugs/coils. Intercooler too.
    The good thing is that all these parts are cheap! Well, that is if you install them yourself. Plugs/Coils/CP should be self installed.

    • @BourbonInhibitions
      @BourbonInhibitions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      tytlyf charge pipe only needs to be upgraded if the OEM breaks. Total waste of money to upgrade it if you're just throwing a tune on.

    • @BMWFanatic
      @BMWFanatic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      tytlyf Just sticking to the normal easy maintenance stuff - but ill do that video next. Cowl filters are gone since I have an upgrade coming 😀

    • @tytlyf
      @tytlyf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ? Throwing a tune on is the only reason you need to upgrade the CP. It's more a safety measure versus performance. A tune will double the boost, the plastic CP is know to break even with stock boost.

      BMW Fanatic I was thinking like 535i of 550i but I don’t know if I should get a 5 series because it seems like there not really good cars since that’s what a lot of people say but at the same time I feel like should just do it because I feel like at the end it all about how you maintenance a car

    • @rwa96
      @rwa96 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 535i has the n55 same as the 2, 3 and 4. the 550i has the n63 v8 and comes with a ton of problems, like timing chain stretch, injector failure, needing a new battery every oil change, etc. Google n63 customer care package. If you want a 550 look for a 2014 or newer that has the n63tu engine, it also has more hp and torque. You can run BMW vin numbers at bimmer.work/ I'm personally in the market for a 435 or 535 with the M sport package.
