Even though you mentioned another video about the subframe, you should probably at least mention that you need engine support to hold up the engine while you pull the frame. Some guys may opt to skip the other video and assume that this video is enough

For anyone wondering: this is absolutely worth it. It transformed my car. My stock turbos were weak, only being able to hold 12psi at 17 target. After installing these, it targets 19.5 and holds 19+ and even breaks 20psi. Even without a tune, it's insane what these turbos did for my car. Highly recommend. Also, if you're a semi-novice like me this job will take you 5-6 days if you spend 4+ hours on it daily. I did it from jack stands in my driveway, having to go back and forth from the auto parts store for certain tools. It's very gratifying knowing I did it by myself and saved $3,000 by not paying an indie shop.
I have had a 335i now for 15 years upgrades over the last 7 years are Td0 4 turbos at 18 psi FBO LTD diff full seal kit in auto runninnig MHD and XHP stage 3 upgraded full pump and modified fuel pump driver with cooling fan dyno's at 550 reliable HP , and have never used E85 the main killer of reliability in these engines. at 1350KGs and a very stock looking E90 those Mustang and Dodge boys sure get one hell of a shock when this little old man is looking at them in his reaveiw, what a buzz, the most realiable and fun car I have owned, and I have owned a lot of muscle cars in my 50 years of driving.

G Thankfully my turbos were still good. I had multiple leaks( vacuum lines from the turbo it’s self and the intercooler.) Running well now on mhd stage 1 plus 🙏🏾.

Nice video, definitely getting a set of these when mine blow(I'm at 97000 so they have some life left), I just finished buying a set of index 12 injectors for my n54
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Straight to the point and clear filming. I feel like I have everything I need now to tackle this. It helps that I've tinkered with a motorcycle before. How much harder can this be? (Especially with resources like this video?)
Truly an excellent tutorial!! Thank You for taking the time ; only thing thing questionable was the use of the G-05 coolant; I would recommend G-48. I used G-05 in 2 seperate BMW cars and had overheating issues (it was not air in the system) ;(or I just suck at car ownership)
Thanks! Oh yeah? I've been running it for a few years and ran it on my E70 for years also. Haven't noticed any issues, it's just easily available locally and meets BMW spec.
I have these same turbos and so does my friend, they are great. Quick spool up, nice sound, good power. Still hard to make over 500hp on our crappy pump gas here in Canada but in the US these will make a lot more power
Lmao i feel the missing screw part. I just did some work on my n54 and found so many missing lol i was able to find them all at ace with the help of a bmw tech forum on reddit.
Hey I order them olso from Dynamics Autowerx. Your installation video has help a lot, thank you for that. Can't wait for the first start. Hope to do this today or else tommorow 👍🏻
Another excellent video. You have helped me learn so much, and saved me thousands in labor. I’m checking your affiliate links now to show some support.
Great video brother. One of the most thorough videos of its kind out there. Also, you always have great camera placement and quality. Keep up the excellent work.
Interesting to see you did exactly the same thing I did, which was to put the downpipes back in before bolting up the right hand engine mount bracket :)
I seen that too! Lol I was like wait a second. by the way my son just bought the same turbos we have them mounted the motor and transmission are out of the car and are going back in this week as well.
Wow, yet another amazing video! Exactly what I was thinking of doing, once I got the courage to change them out myself. My 09 E90N54 is at about 120k so lots of (expensive) things need to be changed at once. Wish you mentioned putting the cross brace on first before dropping your subframe, but I knew to do this from your other videos. You covered so many procedures in this one video, many many thanks! Money being the same, would you have used the Vargas GC lite instead? Thoughts on them? Thanks again! Steve
Thanks! I was looking at them, I stumbled upon the DAW turbos and they sounded promising so I figured the info would be helpful to the community. So money being the same I still would have gone with them but more for interesting content.
What a nightmare. I can see why BMW went to a single turbo on the N55. The BMW straight 6 with a single turbo should be the most economical powerplant (to manufacture), on the planet. Everybody else uses separate cylinder banks with twin turbos (for their six’es), and of course duplicate plumbing to support the turbos. I can just see the BMW accountants saying, “and why do you want to use two turbochargers Herr Fritz?”
Thank you for this video and for all explanations, cause I really need to replace my turbos too on my 08 bmw 535xi I can’t drive it this’s almost two years parked on my driveway 😣 after I took it to Many mechanics all they asked higher Price for repairs 😵💫
Once turbos are removed from the block what’s the best thing to use to clean the block before reinstalling. Also what are the torque settings for, control arm , tie rod ends, steering rack , sub frame etc please on the 335i N54
I now i would never be able to change the turbos in my e90. maybe is lack of knowledge, lack of willpower to do such amazing work...maybe i feel im gonna break something and leave the car half assembled in my garage...or maybe its because its an n52.
I'm good at turning a wrench and was a tech for a few years. I dont think i want to tackle this on my n54 i135 and I'm needing to replace my turbos. That's a chunk of change lol
I replaced the aluminum torx bolts with normal bolts because it’s cheaper, less likely to be stripped and alot safer due to it’s strength on my friends 08 335i convertible
Say, brother, your links are broken. I'd prefer to buy them and get you paid with your affiliate link than not. Great video! I was dreading this project... I still am to some degree, but feel a lot more confident going into it than before. Thanks!
can you please provide a link for the Intercooler you used, if you purchased a new intercooler, thanks brother + awesome videos I got your chargers and kit links, just no Intercooler
I love this channel been subscribed for quite a while ever since 2020 when I purchased my first E90. Your content is very useful and helps me decide which jobs I will tackle in my driveway as well as the best way to go about it. This video was great but I can't seem to find the links for the follow up videos of Street pullls or track or on the dyno with this setup before you manual swapped it.. please reply those links if they are available thanks
Great Video. Just got through doing mine. Not fun on the garage floor. I managed to get a P0420 and P0430 pop up two days later. I thought maybe I had connected those rear O2 sensors to the wrong connector, but not sure that would throw those codes and I believe I put them in correctly. Any ideas. I was very careful with the CATS when i had them off the car. Those codes usually mean bad sensors, but very odd sense they were fine before doing the job.
I know you are a much better mechanic that I am (or will ever be) , but can you estimate the # of hours for this project? And as a suggestion would you do hour estimates for any of your more complicated projects in the future? I watch you video all the time and you really have given me the confidence to tackle projects I would never tried before. Thank you for that.
I watched FCP euros swap video and I ain't gon lie, that shit kinda scared me 😂 I like your video a lot better so I might go for it now. Whats the estimated time on this?
I did this exact job on my 2008 e90 m57 diesel 335d and that was hard enough. But after watching this it's a harder job on the petrol version like yours. What with the turbo coolant lines and pipes and two separate turbos and manifolds etc and 2 separate down pipes. The diesel version makes good power at 365 bhp and 730nm torque or close to 553lb ft torque. Don't need the petrol version here in the UK in my opinion.
But excellent video and channel for us 335 owners. Great work and thanks. RHD versions present some slightly different minor challenges such as steering column and access problems.
I love watching your videos. The question I have for you is that I plan on doing, I clutch, turbos, and water pump. Would it just be easier to pull the engine out of the front of the car? Also how long did this take you?
Can these be tuned with JB4 or MHD or do they need to be custom? Also, can you PLEASE upload another video w/ your thoughts?😭 I want to pull the trigger on these but waiting on you brother!! Lol, btw I think I've subscribed to maybe 4 channels in my life. Yesterday you became number 4!! Keep up the good content!👍🏽
Anything can be tuned with JB4 and MHD back end. Tuning has nothing to do with turbos it’s all about ECU and if it’s worth your while... this guy is very good at what he does so while I mention that it would be pointless for him to install upgraded turbos if he can’t tune on JB4 or MHD or both platforms for tuning. But great question man.
How has your stock valve cover held up? I had to repair mine temporarily with some flexible high temp epoxy and considering going with a billet aluminum upgrade rather than going with another plastic OEM replacement. Is it worth it?
Great video and to the point, but it would be even more helpful if your can note any special tool used and then size of tools used to complete the job It takes the guess work out of the scope of the repairs.
At about 12 mins in you pull off the oil drain hose out of the sump and oil pours out I thought all turbo manufactures require the drain to be above the level of the oil to allow proper draining from the turbo to stop it pushing out the exhaust seal Could the oil have been overfilled ? Or is that just another N54 oddity Thanks
Great video! Haven't been that deep but have done suspension, springs, struts, and waterpump. Gotta do valve cover gasket next (bad oil leak). How long did it take you to get the turbos out? Music is cool...low stress!
I'm suspecting my turbo's are burning oil because when I stepped on the throttle couple of times during the weekend, my oil went from half to almost low. Oil pan gasket it different thing, I know it will leak just a little bit, the rest was done. I have rattle but no codes for pressure leak. Should I consider getting new turbos soon?

Straight to the point and clear filming. I feel like I have everything I need now to tackle this. It helps that I've tinkered with a motorcycle before. How much harder can this be? (Especially with resources like this video?)
Your videos are so clutch. When are we going to see an update on these?
Truly an excellent tutorial!! Thank You for taking the time ;
only thing thing questionable was the use of the G-05 coolant; I would recommend G-48.
Great tutorial mate! I have this project ahead of me so I'm sure gonna go step by step with this. Keep up the great work!
I have these same turbos and so does my friend, they are great. Quick spool up, nice sound, good power. Still hard to make over 500hp on our crappy pump gas here in Canada but in the US these will make a lot more power
what are you running bov? my tial chasing surge with these
@@curtisg5117 you need a softer spring in the BOV
What turbos are these? Stage 2 or stage 2+
Great video as always. Thank you for taking the time to make this for us. 👍
Interesting to see you did exactly the same thing I did, which was to put the downpipes back in before bolting up the right hand engine mount bracket :)
Lol yeah but it slips right in behind so no time lost luckily.
I am from RECIFE in Brazil South America and what a great vid...
Best video I have seen on this subject
I watched a lot of your videos by the way. They've been really helpful. Thx!
Just figured it would be less straining.
Gotcha. 👍
Saving up for this turbos thank you
Once turbos are removed from the block what’s the best thing to use to clean the block before reinstalling.
LMFAO
I'm good at turning a wrench and was a tech for a few years. I dont think i want to tackle this on my n54 i135 and I'm needing to replace my turbos. That's a chunk of change lol
I replaced the aluminum torx bolts with normal bolts because it’s cheaper, less likely to be stripped and alot safer due to it’s strength on my friends 08 335i convertible
Mine just got here I'm excited
Love watching your diy's brotha.
Say, brother, your links are broken. I'd prefer to buy them and get you paid with your affiliate link than not. Great video! I was dreading this project... I still am to some degree, but feel a lot more confident going into it than before. Thanks!
Daw went out of business I believe
@@Out_the_mud94 nah they went to the newer engines, the B58s :(
My back hurts just watching this video
You are AWESOME! Thanks for this video man!!✌️😎
Love your stuff mate. Keep up the great work!
can you please provide a link for the Intercooler you used, if you purchased a new intercooler, thanks brother + awesome videos
I got your chargers and kit links, just no Intercooler
I love this channel been subscribed for quite a while ever since 2020 when I purchased my first E90. Your content is very useful and helps me decide which jobs I will tackle in my driveway as well as the best way to go about it. This video was great but I can't seem to find the links for the follow up videos of Street pullls or track or on the dyno with this setup before you manual swapped it.. please reply those links if they are available thanks
Good stuff bro. You could have done your oil pan gasket too.
Great video. What turbos did you install?
I know you are a much better mechanic that I am (or will ever be) , but can you estimate the # of hours for this project? And as a suggestion would you do hour estimates for any of your more complicated projects in the future? I watch you video all the time and you really have given me the confidence to tackle projects I would never tried before. Thank you for that.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad my videos have inspired you! I'd say 14 hours or so. Plan on a full weekend
I guess 335xi is more difficult?
Man you did a butt load of work. Awesome
I watched FCP euros swap video and I ain't gon lie, that shit kinda scared me 😂 I like your video a lot better so I might go for it now. Whats the estimated time on this?
Plan for 12 to 14 hours, ideally spread over three days.
@@VehicularDIY I guess I can go buy a Honda civic with stickers to drive in the mean time with the money I save on hourly labor while I finish that 😂
Be careful with the ground strap. My car was immobile for 2 months because I attached the strap to the frame on both ends instead of the engine.
@@323spy 😂 ahh I can see that happening, we'll noted thanks!
Great video 👍 thanks for sharing!
After doing downpipes and inlets turbos look like no biggie! How long did it take you? And who'd you have do your tune
two questions. 1. did you fully disconnect your steering rack, or just swing it out of camera. 2. do you have stock secondary cats?
Wow what a big ass job!
How has your stock valve cover held up? I had to repair mine temporarily with some flexible high temp epoxy and considering going with a billet aluminum upgrade rather than going with another plastic OEM replacement.
Is it worth it?
How much hp? How much psi? How much lag ?
Great video and to the point, but it would be even more helpful if your can note any special tool used and then size of tools used to complete the job It takes the guess work out of the scope of the repairs.
Great Job
Are you a mechanic or is this just your hobby?
Thanks, It's my hobby. Have done some part time mechanic work when i was younger and kept wrenching at home ever since.
I wish they had a function to prime to oil system the way they do with the cooling system.
I love this guy video they are 5👍up
I only have one question 🙋♂️ can u use Rotella Diesel engine oil on twins turbo engine ?
Yeah I've been using it for years.
You are the best I’m going to try it on my car 🚙 can I switch from synthetic to this oil now
Interesting the downtube bolts looked like they had copper anti-sieze. I wonder if that was when the other turbos were replaced.
A fantastic video! Very well done.
At about 12 mins in you pull off the oil drain hose out of the sump and oil pours out
I thought all turbo manufactures require the drain to be above the level of the oil to allow proper draining from the turbo to stop it pushing out the exhaust seal
Could the oil have been overfilled ? Or is that just another N54 oddity
Thanks
Great video! Haven't been that deep but have done suspension, springs, struts, and waterpump. Gotta do valve cover gasket next (bad oil leak). How long did it take you to get the turbos out? Music is cool...low stress!
Thanks, about 4 hours to get them out.
@@VehicularDIY Wow. Sometimes it takes me 4 hours to do my brakes! Way to go!
looking forward to your review! thanks!
What milage you at? If you don't have any codes and don't see constant smoke out the tailpipe you don't necessarily have to.
