    User error bud. You might be mad at me for saying that. But I’m not saying your dumb bud, just that no one has taught you how to adjust it correctly. Tighten your spool tension all the way, then back it off 3 full rounds and it’ll never blow up again. Run 20 lb line and you will never see a blow up under any conditions. You need a 150 DC HG for what your doing man. Safe to 200 for 3-20 oz. Stuff. I’ve got 9 different manufacturers among 20 different casters. The curado is top 4 in my collection. And I’ve got Steez, Zillion, Antares DC, Metanium DC, then the Curado DC and it’s a peach of a reel. For 1/2 the price of some of the afore mentioned reels. I mean these are basically baitcasters for dummies. You’ll get it bud just get to know your spool tension knob a little better.

    After watching this, I’m 99% sure it’s your spool tension setting. That’s the one adjustment we never see you make in the video. Loosen up the spool tension knob. The spool should wiggle side to side to side. Now slowly tighten the spool tension, just to the point that the wiggle is eliminated. No further, no less. You’re done. With that said. If you don’t thumb the spool right before your bait hits the water, you’re gonna birds nest. The DC doesn’t do everything for you.
    I own a 3 Curado DC’s. Love them. They aren’t too heavy for me, but obviously are for you. I have your solution. Get a Curado MGL. Less expensive, smaller, lighter, and almost casts as far as a DC. Almost. Good luck. 👍🏽

    Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

    I use the curado dc and slx dc everyday. Ive played with all line types and diameters and the reel will handle anything you put on it. You have to realize that depending on the type of line you use you may run into issues. Most "hard" florocarbons will not cast as well or as far as mono or braid. You need to find the right line. That will work for your setup. I used 6lb mono and florocarbon on these reels and they will handle it flawlessly , alot of baitcaster problems are user error unfortunatley. Also you need to tighten your spool tensioner because most of your birds nests happend at the end of your cast. If you get a birdsnest in the beginning its your brakes and if its at the end its your tensioner. Hope this helps and tightlines!

    • @jasondalton3507
      @jasondalton3507 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Forgot to mention that you need to get away from the setting guidelines from shimano the brakes are only brakes they are not exactly general line specific "Rules" since all line companies can vary significantly. Its all about Tuneing your system to suit what your working with and if your working with stiff florocarbon on a stiff rod you need to be realistic and tune for what your working with. Also casting into the wind like you were is going to require more brakes and more tension just a fact of the bait caster life. Hope this helps too.

    When they first came out I sent my Curado DC in for service because I thought it wasn't right - turns out it was user error, spool tension as others have responded. Since then it has been great, catching fish up to a 21 pound peacock. I now also have an Exscence DC SS and an Antares DC MD. Playing around with the Antares on a recent Colombia trip, it was crazy how switching lure weights it sensed the difference and cast further and further for five casts as it "learned" the new lure. At ICAST last month the new Curado 200 DC was my top gotta get it after walking through the whole show, have two on pre-order.

I tried it out yesterday with no wind and was got 3-4 birds nest! I started at setting 2, then 3 and still got backlash. The spool tension should be only as tight as required to remove any lateral movement. If that's not the case, the reel will never be charged. Therefore it will not perform as advertised.
    Since you don't like the DC. I'd recommend you try the Diawa TWS SV. It's a standard reel that will throw light weights without backlash.

    I set mine up similar to all baitcasters. I set the spool tension first then pick the number (usually 2 or 3) for braking. Adjust as needed (conditions, lure weight etc.) it’s kind of like buying a Tesla and thinking you won’t have to actually drive the car. You still will. The DC reels aren’t bullet proof but I have yet to have a birds nest anywhere close to my other reels. They are always minor at best. My advice is if your other reels are working for ya stick with those and don’t sweat it. Thanks for the video.

      that's too tight your loosing a lot of distance.
      i run my dc reels with spool tension just so it starts to effect the fall rate of lure, so it still falls fast but not full speed, like 80% of full drop speed.
      i run it like this for 1/4oz up to 3 oz lures.
      only reason to run as tight as you are is if your new to bait casting and are worried about missing the thumbing as lure hit the water.
      you go that tight if you don't want to use thumb at end of cast.

      @longpointfishmaster947 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol
      no i was just giving you a tip based on your answer to a comment.
      by your answer you indicated that you run spool tension tight that the lure barely drops which is like 20% of gravity fall rate which really kills your long distance. DC reels run great at 80-90% of gravity fall rate. unless you really don't want to thumb when lure hits water or your really new to bait casting and learning.
      logan said
      " i put my breaks on 2 and adjusted the tension knob to where the lure barely dropped "
      then you said
      "Completely agree. To each there own, by I tweak mine the same way, booklet says so it doesn't drop, but I do just as you do so it barely drops
      Just like my old green tank curados."
      so the book doesn't say to adjust spool tension that tight.
      it says to adjust to eliminate any side to side play on the spool for dc reels and tweak tension a bit from there as necessary.
      hope you have a great day

    With every DC reel I’ve ever owned, every time I pick it up after not using it for a few days, it is like the drag is super loose even though the drag knob is tightened down. After a few casts it does start to tighten back up and after maybe 10-15 casts it is back to normal...and this is ok without adjusting any settings. Any thoughts?

    • @sverreakker4924

    • @johnschauder
      @johnschauder ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sverreakker4924 yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I was under the impression that the chip only affected the breaks, and the spool tension and drag functioned just like they would on a normal reel.
      If this issue caused by the chip and is normal for all DC reels, why is it that nobody ever mentions this in reviews and I can’t find any info on the forums? It seems like a pretty significant issue and would be worth mentioning. Always on my first few casts, I’ll bomb a cast out there and crank like crazy and the line will barely retrieve into the spool…or not at all. Sometimes I have to wind the spool with my thumb while I’m reeling. This can’t be normal.

  • @luqm4n53

    1.Your spool tension way too loose. Tighten spool tension, hiit the tumb bar and slowly loose the spool tension until the lure hit the water with no bird ness. Spool tension does not relate to distance.
    2. Your whole equipment is not balance. The best lure weight for curado dc is 10g above if you want get distance due to the spool. If you use below 10g make sure use light rod.
    3. Use balance equipment, starting from lure, line, rod & reel. Identify your equipments specifications.
    4. Find the sweetspot lure weight for every rod, if not you can't perform casting, & you will not get distance & always had birdness

    My thoughts exactly with the curado dc. The reel is on the heavier and bigger size. It is an excellent reel for half ounce or heavier baits. Dc reels are not good for finesse applications. I terms of your fatigue, the rebellion is also a very tip heavy rod. The heaviness of the curado dc should balance it out well but the over combo can be quite heavy. My advice even though i am a shimano fan boy, the tatula sv is the better reel for the rebellion. That reel suits the daiwa air sensor reel seat better and is much lighter and can cast finesse baits.

    If I remember correctly, it recommends that you use 14lb flouro, 12lb mono, and while it says something else in the book, 30-40lb braid seems to work best in it. Seems like that should be tried, but if that doesn't work, and you have messed with the tensioning, I think you just got incredibly unlucky getting defective products.

    I can only speak from my experience with the three digital reels from shimano that I have, the Corrado, scorpion, and the SLX. I tend to use slightly heavier line 15 to 20 pound and fiddle with the fine adjustment knob sticking out the side. Even though the instructions say, only tighten it to avoid some slop side to side in the spool, I found that tightening it slightly more, like you traditionally would do with the bait caster to allow the lure to gravity drop, makes all of the digital reels seem like fine music.

    Its probably user error. Spool tension is prob too loose, and the point of a dc is to prevent backlash not actually stop it. You still have to feather the reel.

  • @ChrisReynolds614

    @1lastcast you have to feather the spool just in case you don't know what feathering is there are plenty of vids on youtube, if you watch the video you are just throwing it and hoping it casts

    On Amazon, the Shimano Curado DC has a 4.8 out of 5 rating with over 1000 reviews which is really high. I think you are doing something wrong possibly your spool is adjusted wrong, or it is possible you have a faulty reel.

    Really similar to whats going on with my slx dc. Worked great for a month no backlashs but the i go to cast when id really go to bomb it out the breaks would almost completely shut off. Like nothing just free spin. Started working some time and not other. After messing around with it happens in settings 2 and sometimes in 4. Thing will be breaking really good then i wined up and throw it out instantly back lash 1/5 times like. Gonna return it and get a new one hopefully that one will do good. ( side note been using bait caster for years and know how to cast. Also i have touched my tenstion know and know how to properly adjust this real with what the manufacturer says. And even threw that out the window tried a bunch of different positions.

    Idk why nobody else has noticed but the knob you're turning for setting in to fluoro is actually the knob for lure weight, the line type setting is on the inside. Also use 15lbs fluoro instead of 12lbs

    • @longpointfishmaster947
      @longpointfishmaster947 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      no its not.
      the slx and curado dc only have external adjustment which makes it the simplest dc brakes to use. IDC 4 brake system 1 to 4
      1 no wind ultra bomb mode (basically no brakes)
      2 braid and mono
      3 floro
      4 skipping or casting into the wind (most brakes)
      you are thinking of reels with IDC brakes like the higher end reels but is now in the new slx dc xt (JDM)
      and new curado dc 70 (JDM)
      or scorpion dc 2017 or 2021 (JDM)
      these have a line selection on the inside under cover plate
      then an external dial for braking strength.

  • @johnnynguyen9449
    @johnnynguyen9449 ปีที่แล้ว

    look dc reels you still need to thumb it, just like any bait casters you need to thumb it but what the dc helps with is casting into the wind, light lures and mid- heavy thumbing i find my self just grazzing the spool when i cast vs laying my thumb on the reel like my max pro of my classic speed spool

    this is major user error. you need to correct the spool tension, father the spool, not cast so hard, and make sure you have the right setup. like the comments say, this is made to reduce backlash not eliminate it. of course it will backlash if you cast as hard as you can without feathering or a heavier lure. i suggest reading the handbook there is a reason this real is so expensive and popular, nobody would buy it if this happened to everyone. i personally paired mine with a 7'2 medium heavy fast action curado rod its made specifically for this reel. and my other is one a g loomis gcx 7'0 mh fast action. also the weight i dont see as a problem the best rated/reviewed reels are all pretty similar by a couple ounces, im a big and tall dude out of shape and this reel doesnt make me anymore tired than any my other rod and reel combos maybe try a lighter rod

  • @abdulhakimjahari589
    @abdulhakimjahari589 ปีที่แล้ว

    DC or non DC, before you cast, adjust your tension knob to balance with your lure weight.. logically, if u got a light lure, tighten a bit of your tension knob.. i got 3 kind of DC reels, never encounter this problems

    I have a 2 Diawa Tatulas. It's half the price and I have 0 issues with them. Also someone else mentioned feathering the spool. Yeah, that would solve 99% of your issues. I didn't have that many problems with one of my cheap Okumas.

    I run a Scorpion DC 50yards of 8lb flouro ontop of a braid backer, 1/8oz jig with a 2.8in paddletail loosen the spool till it knocks left to right, setting 2, no issues. SLX DC with 45yards 16lb flouro with a braid backer, 1/2oz lipless, loosen the spool untill it knocks left to right, setting 3, thing flys, but I do occasionally birds nest unintentionally sometimes I can pin it down to a bad cast or poor thumb control other times probably the reel. Technology should never be put before practice, practice, practice. I would recommend the SLX but the Scorpion is certainly easier to cast, more user friendly and more reliable/consistent.

    this mistake is verry but verry simple to fix. change youre carbon line into braided line and problem solved. i dont why americans dont use braided line. because its smoother to throw on a dc reel. and another tip reels arent made for casting light weight lures. their made for trowing big baits

    You must’ve got a couple bad ones bc I love mine. I was and for the most part have been a revo man bc the shimano I’ve owned just weren’t smooth.
    Fast forward years and I bought a Curado dc and a chronarch and I fell in love with my cdc. The cheap arch not so much but I hear so many people talk good about them that im feeling the same about it as you are about yours.

  • @pequenioedgarito3067
    @pequenioedgarito3067 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reel isnt the issue. Its making the adjustments so that you don’t birdnest, given the light bait that you’re using. And that’s not just on the Shimano. That is across the board on all bait casters. So to say that the Shimano, DC Corrado is junk is not true. Also note, the line type you use will help determine if you bird nest. Start off with 10 to 12 lb mono and fish with it. Move to flurocarbon within the same diameter. Then try braid. You will find the sweet spot with your Shimano baitcater. Be well be safe. Tight knots and lines

    big thing with dc reels when you bomb a cast if your not smooth with your cast and fallow through and snap the tip of the rod at the end of the cast, the dc doesnt always correct for that if running loose spool tension. i bomb my dc reels over 200ft daily as there is a spot i love to fish that you cant get to, but loaded with fish.

  • @jaimeastin

    Man... It might "U"ser error. I don't justify my purchases, I know I didn't even pay the price that you all paid because I got the hook up at my local shop.. with that said I have a lot of different baitcasters and some are expenses and a lot of them are straight dirt cheap so don't get me wrong. Well the Corolla DC is not my favorite baitcaster, it is far from garbage. I've had it for a couple years and it will bird's nest, like all of them will.. but it's all down to the setup. I still have to dial mine in when I change lures. But I do that with all my baitcasters. If you're messing up, you just don't have it set up properly. The Colorado DC protects you against those errors that people have usually after a decent setup. It's not foolproof like we like to believe or demonstrate. So you need to check that tension out. That's what you have to do on every single baitcaster. Let that Lord drop and if it moves too fast and over spools when you let the Lord fall with gravity, you need to tighten it up a little bit

    Flourocarabon as a main line? That sounds kind of funny to me as a European. I never had such terrifying birds nests with the Shimano SLX DC and 8×8 braided line and I m a total beginner with baitcast reels. You either have a reel with production flaw here or it is because you use basically a super stiff plastic wire as main line. Shimano SLC DC at least seems oretty idiot-proof to me. If you want to fish stealthy, why not just use a flourocarbon tip in front of you bait? Isn t that what flouro is intended for?
