Thanks for the tip JP. Somehow i still have problems with my Curado DC. Iam a fishing newbie and also still using spinning reel to learn. For fishing trout iam using a 1,5 or 2,6 gram hardlure. Westin W3 finesse T rod, 5-20gram with 0.20mm braid line. After first try i realise that the lure is to light (cant casting at all) and adding 9 gram more weightcasting. When less smooth casting i got a little bird nest and always birdnest by not thumbing when the lure hits the water. Not gain any distance by selecting break number 2. I tried your instruction in this video. Selecting break number 4 for thumbless casting, break number 3 for braid/longer distance and adjusting the tension knob until no side to side movement. Also tried the traditional methode by adjusting the tension knob for each lure. I can heard the DC running when casting. What did i do wrong?. Something wrong with my setup?. Is the line to tick?. @Fishing Fanatic Freddy Casting 9 grams isnt bait finesse. Its in the normal range for all of shimanos 200 size reels. Here in Australia we typically bass fish with baitcasters and lures 8 or 9 grams and ive had to stop selling them because of the number of returns. Its got way way too much braking on the minimum setting. I've got chronarchs, calais, calcuttas and a calcutta dc from 2006. They all handle 8 grams no worries. But not this pile of crap. I dont know what shimano were thinking.......... apparantly only double handed plug rods and heavy lures....... Yes 2.5 gram lures are out of the range of all of these reels and that is BFS. But 8 or 9 grams?......no.
It literally tells you how to do it in the manual. They even put it on a colored card. lol. We don’t all read manuals though. I’m certainly guilty of that.
1 is the least amount of computer assist, 2 we recommend for Braid, 3 for fluoro or mono and 4 has the most amount of braking so skipping and casting into the wind or for new baitcast users. Not sure about the W as we don't have that in our iDC4 units.
Great Tip. Thank you. Shall we also use theese settings when using the Mode 1? Or depends the Mode 1 on the weight of the lures because the braking force of the electronic is less?
It depends on your casting ability and thumbing the spool. It will be hard to beat setting 2 for castability and distance... you can't haul off on setting 1 like that and tightening the spool tension will help but affect the distance greatly
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors Thank you. Today i have tested your settings and than switched from Mode 2 to Mode 1. Ok some feet more but you need to pay attention with your thumb. Mode 2 is much easier.

I didn’t think I would have to thumb the spool before the bait hit the water. I wonder if the tension knob needs to be even tighter for a thumbless cast?

Set up mine exactly the same way, cast the exact same, blew up like any other reel. However this was out of the box.. how long or how many casts does it take to charge the computer? I had 14lb fluoro on mine. I am wondering if I have a bad micro chip???? Had do I tell? And advice? The reel is super smooth, just backlashes like any other reel if I don’t thumb it. You bombed it in your video without touching the spool which makes me wonder if I have a bad chip??????? Thanks for any advice
You still have to stop the spool at the end with DC reels. Where they assist is during the lure flight unless you have it on number 4 and adjust the spool tension knob to the weight of the bait.
Great info , thank you!! Question, I want to use a braid backing on the spool about half full. Then I want to fill the spool with 10 lb fluorocarbon. So what setting would you recommend? The braid or the flouro? Thank you in advance.
I have a slx dc 150hg when I set mine as he said to just where there is no side to side play I get over run ...when I set it to where whatever bait I have on it doesn't fall i don't get any backlash or over run but distance might take a slight hit ..so which way is correct to set it I seen videos of ppl saying both ways
If you are getting back lash up the setting on the side. 4 is the most control 1 is the least. By setting it with no side to side movement, that is how to ensure maximum distance with least amount of resistance

The smoothness of the cast has a lot to do with it as well. If you’re trying to throw a light bait with a stiff rod, that often doesn’t allow the bait speed to load properly. So many variables but I have never had issues casting 1/4 ounce.
Kpaw if you rinse it off do it lightly with water and use a rag to get into the crevases then make sure you re oil ot with the reel oil that is provided when you by it. That’s about as much as I know about cleaning for saltwater I don’t fish salt water but maybe it will help you

That was a G.Loomis GLX 893C JWR casting rod that is Medium Heavy, Fast action and 7'5" in length. The right rod for you will depend on what you want to do with it... What fish, what lures or presentation?
You don't put your line through the spool, you use an arbor knot anytime you want to tie your line to your spool. If you are using straight braid, use the arbor knot them out a small piece of tape on top of the knot and start spooling the reel. That will stop the slipping
The quality of the blank design, reel seat and graphite combine to make rods more or less sensitive. The length has very little to do with sensitivity within reason. Short answer, yes, the GLX 7'5" is very sensitive. That model is designed for bottom contact applications.
@@popaki9484 Depends on what you are using it for technique wise. The HG (7:1) is a great jack of all trades gear ratio. heavy braid like Power Pro is best for learning to cast. 50 lb is a great starting point. The heavier the braid the less distance you will get, the lighter, the more distance.
my dc doesnt have that sound...any advice?did the spool setting like above and cast, the sound of the dc is so tiny that you need to get your ear closer to it then you will hear it.
If you are casting lightly or at a slow pace then the DC unit will not charge enough. Make sure you are getting the spool speed up on the cast and it’s pretty noticeable the sound it makes
I just got the shamano D.C. And did exactly what you show here, I put it on setting 4 and did light flipping not even hard and it's backlashes. I just got it out the box from tackle wearhouse! Do I need to do anything to charge up the D.C. Controls?
vinny luu the DC unit charges by spinning spool speed. Light short slow pitches do not charge the computer so it doesn’t work. It excels at casting and skipping hands free. If you are pitching short soft pitches you will need to use your thumb bud. No speed means no power
Im gunna have to give this a try i did not read the manual lol and been gettin random backlashes so we will see, overall love this reel tho i have it paired with a carbonlite 2.0 and its an amazing setup
Hey new to bait caster bought a Curado DC 150hg atm I have Daiwa J braid on it but I’m not sure if that the best for it . What braid would u recommend?
There are a lot of good braids on the market, I have been using PowerPro my entire life basically and it has yet to let me down but J Braid is also a quality product. The bigger concern should be what pound test you run. The thinner the line the more it will bite into the spool on a bait caster. I usually recommend 30, 40, 50, 65 or 80 lb test for best line management.
JP DeRose thanks for The info we put 20 on just for me to practice around the Estuary system but I’ll upgrade it before I come to America. I’m thinking I’m go 30 that way I can also use to it chase barramundi in Australia. One more question one of the people at the store I got it from said to use the 4x instead of the 8x but we put the 8x on any advice about that?
That one had PowerPro Maxcuatro 80lb but on baitcasters I use everything from 30 up to 80lb depending what I am using it for. As a side note, you can cast further with smaller diameter braid so keep that in mind if you're looking for casting distance. 30 and 40 lb PowerPro is perfect for that!
This is exactly how i set mine up. However, if i dont use my thumb to stop the spool after casting and the bait hitting the water it will bird nest like hell. Same if i let it drop and letting it hit the ground while standing.
The DC units need to be spinning fast to work Pete. Just free falling a bait will not be enough speed to charge the micro computer hence the spool keeps running
Anybody else have issue with the drag slipping? I have mine crank down not all the way but down enough like how I do with my other reels. It’ll slipping when I set the hook. I don’t want to crank the drag down too hard.
Retrou Vailles the DC has 11 pounds of drag like practically all the other baitcasting lowprofile reels Shimano makes. Are you using braid? And if so, did you use a mono or fluoro backing or tape on the spool?
JP DeRose I have three dc, two with fluorocarbon and one with braid. I just tie them on the reel. Most of the time, I’ll insert my line into the spool and out the other and tie. With the dc, I couldn’t do that. Do you think my line is slipping rather than my drag?
@@BayJoua Odds are good. Let the line all out when you are fishing and place a small piece of tape over the knot on the spool then reel back over it. See if that helps.
Francis T depends on the weight of the baits and size of the fish you are targeting. I would match the rod power rating to the size of lures I use most often.

heavy braid like Power Pro is best for learning to cast. 50 lb is a great starting point. The heavier the braid the less distance you will get, the lighter, the more distance.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors thank you mate :-)
I just got mine and I put 12lb mono in it. Would mono be the best choice for a dc reel?
I recommend 30-50 lb braid on baitcasters
my dc doesnt have that sound...any advice?did the spool setting like above and cast, the sound of the dc is so tiny that you need to get your ear closer to it then you will hear it.
oh ya,berkley mono 15lbs
JP DeRose thanks for the reply
What rod is that
Im gunna have to give this a try i did not read the manual lol and been gettin random backlashes so we will see, overall love this reel tho i have it paired with a carbonlite 2.0 and its an amazing setup
Great video.
Thank you for this video.
I have a new dc and I don’t like the fact that I have to run it with tension on the spool for the brake system to work.
fuenstock buy a different reel
I set it with no tension fuenstock, I only tighten until the play is removed from the spool in regards to side to side movement
go spinning , or zebco
was wondering if anyone has a hard time reeling with the curado ? feels a bit hard when retrieving back, which makes my arm tired out.
Male sure one of your brakes aren't jammed and that you reassembles the spool and side plate properly.
Would this apply to any bait caster r just the DC one? Thanks for ur tip.
I just got mine and it doesn’t whine like yours 😓
Thanks very much
Hey new to bait caster bought a Curado DC 150hg atm I have Daiwa J braid on it but I’m not sure if that the best for it .
JP DeRose thanks for
The info we put 20 on just for me to practice around the Estuary system but I’ll upgrade it before I come to
America. I’m thinking I’m go 30 that way I can also use to it chase barramundi in Australia. One more question one of the people at the store I got it from said to use the 4x instead of the 8x but we put the 8x on any advice about that?
@@E1eni That is just the strand count of the braid. Traditionally braid is 8 strand for the most part and that's what I use most often.
JP DeRose thanks I also always use 8 stand I’m was confused on why old mate told me to go with 4 . Cheers for the replies
Great 👍, genius things are always simple 😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely
Wow 15 years fishing with DC, have no idea! Btw No backlashes, donyou think a 1998 Calais DC use the same adjustment?
Thanks for this!
What about the setting on the inside?
There is nothing to set on the inside of a DC reel
What rod is that?
G. Loomis GLX 893C JWR
What size braid?
JP DeRose got ya, just making sure that was normal, as I’ve seen lots of vids where they don’t stop the spool after casting without birdnest issues.
@@pete7062 Typically only on setting 4 is that possible
JP DeRose thanks for the input
Tighten the tention knob untill your bait doesn't drop
Thank you mate i got one today I know they have been out for a year but o well
I just bought mine today! And who cares if they a lil old it’s still a dope reel!!
Great info.
Mine does not cast this far also when I cast it makes a clicking noise and it’s not the chip
is this why mine isn’t making that noise
It’s not a dc
Yo bro thank you so much ❤
No problem
which rod can you recommend for dc? mh or h? Greetings from Berlin
Francis T depends on the weight of the baits and size of the fish you are targeting. I would match the rod power rating to the size of lures I use most often.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors do you have any recommendations for an all around rod?
