I’m 75. Swam competitive breaststroke as a kid for ten years. Now, my training is simply to have good technique, 30 labs, three days per week. I live in Florida so I can swim year round. 8 to 10 stroke count per lap. Swimming is keeping me off the couch and alive.

I explained above !! REAL breaststroke is (was) sidewards. This style as as promoted is "Jumping stroke".
World championships and olympics should place it under the correct name and set APART from braststroke. The one is not better then the other, it's a completely different swimming style.
As if you would promote butterfly stroke ALSO as the better version of breaststroke. Complete nonsense. International swimming federations MUST take action, and re-install the original breaststroke as a contest style.

I am going to be 70 years old in a few months. I was a champion breaststroker as a kid, and I just got back in the water. Had to have a TKR so that I could do the breast stroke again! Great video. The kick is, indeed, much narrower than in 1960.

Very inspiring. I used to be a swimmer when I was younger too. Started to get back to training again at 42 and I noticed the same thing you did about the kick that seems to be much narrower now compared to when I was training earlier. :)

I'm 37 and haven't swum for years. The flutter kicks + breast pull is the first style I do when I re-learn swimming. One day the lifeguard told me that's wrong move. So I practiced proper breaststroke with the right kicks. But I have always felt comfortable in that combo. So now I'm doing both after watching this with no guilt. 👍👍👍

I've been swimming regularly (twice a week) since September last year (7months) and it's only this last month I've been brave enough to wear goggles. Now swimming is totally different for me and the time goes so quickly because I'm concentrating on breathing properly so I don't drown 😂. Before goggles I was just swimming breaststroke with my head above the water, after using goggles I was breathing every other stroke and putting my head under, but I knew I could improve.
I watched this video before I went today and I went from 34 lengths in 31 mins yesterday to 37 lengths in 32 mins today. Also my pace increased by 10 seconds per 100m. I felt slower but your video was playing in my head and I was concentrating on streamlining, pulling heels to butt, not too wide kick, breathing every pull and gliding. It felt so amazing, best swim ever (so far) ❤ thank you!!

Your channel is my fave swimming coaching channel on TH-cam! Would love to hear you teach water treading/egg beater/etc in deep water. Also what a swimmer does if say they choke on water in the deep end while breathing during a stroke. I have learnt swimming in the past 2-3 months and my freestyle (thanks to you!) is quite stable and I can do quite a few laps in the shallow end. But once in a while I choke while taking a breath in from my mouth, so how does a swimmer recover in such moments in the deep end? Anyway thanks for your amazing content. ♥️♥️♥️

I'm just getting into shape again and found that I love to swim breaststroke. This video helped me so much (especially the vertical elbow and wide kick). The stuff I've learned makes me enjoy swimming breaststroke even more. Thanks for the coaching.

I think that's my problem too. I was a lifeguartips d when I was in highschool. I'm now 35 and a mom of 5. I'm not sure if I can do this 300 anymore. I really want a lifeguard job again. I'm going to go practice with these

A couple years ago, my old coach had me swim breaststroke with a pool buoy. I don’t know if this was the best way, but in narrowed down my kick and made me faster so...

    Ive always been a breastroker
    34 sec 50m
    1:16 100m
These were my pb's as a 15 year old 40 years ago
Ive recently got back in the pool as a masters swimmer
    My masters pb's are
    40 sec 50m
    1:29 100m
Ive been doing many of these drills aswell as endurance sets
My kick and pull and glide are really good at a lower speed and stroke rate
As soon as i try to race my stroke rate goes sky high and my technique falls apart
I will try the pull with freestyle kick as i havent done that
I want to knock off another few secs for my 50 and get fown close to 1:20 for my 100
    Great breastroke tutorial
    Cheers 👍

That's actually really good my PB is 39 in 50 breast and 1:20 in 100 do u do short course or long course

Those are my long course pb's both my pb's as a kid and my masters times
I also do interval splits aswell
Push off the wall and go flat out for 25 m
Rest for 30 seconds and repeat
Cumulative total for that minus the rest part for the 100m is sub 1:20
Not too bad for an old fella

Weve had very little training and competition lately
