I am not/never been an athlete and I am a beginner at swimming in my fifties. I watched for a few tips and finished feeling inspired. Thank you so much for your hard work. I easily injury myself constantly (on land due to hyper mobility ) and have been given various exercises included in your five pillars. I had previously dropped the exercises as soon as I felt better as I didn’t appreciate how they could help day to day (then re-injure 😅), however this video has shown me functional and aspirational purpose. What a boost and motivation! I’m now excited to continue my rehabilitation knowing it will also help me to swim.

I have been doing these exercises in hot vinyasa yoga classes for 12 years. Planks, side planks, boat pose, arm balances, all kinds of strength training that gives one agility, balance, strength. That and we do powerful breathing. But I am just learning to swim and while I am glad I have such flexibility and core strength, the NOT breathing in and out all the time through my nose is my weak point. Holding my breath a long time is not something I am trained in. I am grateful for the tips so I can learn this new activity that, along with yoga, I plan to do for life.

  • @33Jenesis

Excellent lecture!!! You remain my most favorite swim coach :)
I can attest to all your points. I figure out the breathing on my own. Every two was most difficult at first but now it becomes the easiest. I can swim longer by every two shallow inhale exhale. My core is not that strong. My spine is not as flexible as i’d like. I can feel the limitation trying dolphin kick and breaststroke kickoff (balance suffers a bit). I need to work my arms. Using paddles helps my arms not get tired but it’s not enough. I have been working on ankle and toe strength/flexibility for some years mainly for dancing, running, and hiking. The effort translates to swimming. In water I often envision my feet become my fishtail.

    16:50 yeah!
Went on vacation this week, I planned to go to the swimming pool. Didn’t visit for a while.
The first thing which caught me off guard was how hard it is to control your breathing while swimming. I had a recovery swimming session. Little by little I noticed that I swim faster by rotating my body. I also noticed that it’s easier if your arms are straight but you still need to bend them.
All in all, balance is truly a key in swimming ❤

Bravo, what a stunning video put in a great LIFE STORY: I was thinking about learning to ride a bike as a skill set before you got there. I am 62 and still trying to better myself as an athlete: Mobility, strength, speed.endurance etc. But skill-for swimming & many things is not easy to be attain. Learing & improvement is a life long pursuite in many things. e.g. Martial Arts-Aikido: It is sometimes said greatness can never be achieved. Great thought provoking & very helpful video. Can't wait to put into practice.

I love this video‼ I use a Quantum Jumping technique to jump over to myself that never stops swimming and became a elite Olympic athlete. I am 63 years old and been doing this technique for The Last 5 Years. Not to boast or brag but I'm as fast as most 21-year-olds. I swim one discipline and that's freestyle.
I'm training to be a a World Triathlon champion by the time I'm 70 to 75. Thanks for all your help. 🚴 🏃 🏊
