How? It's not like Phelps swam every event at the olympics. He's indeed versatile and have swam a lot of events that no swimmer has ever done so how is it weird?

In competitive swimming, there are four strokes- butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, in the order of Induvidual Medley. They all have different arm and leg kicking patterns, and usually elite swimmers only specialise in one or two of the strokes. Btw, guessing you're indian from your name!

@@ADARSHKWARMAN Dude, I am also indian, live in india, but grew in Newlcastle, England. I cannot think of anyone specialising in all 4 strokes, considering the different techniques involved, and how different set of muscles are used. For example, the kick in butterfly needs extreme core muscles, breaststroke requires strong legs for bursts of speed, and freestyle depends more on arm and shoulder strength & technique. As a former competitive swimmer until a few years back, I can tell you I kind of hated butterfly, but the stroke, and swimming in general builds tonnes of core strength and general body muscle strength, along with muscle capacity. Swimming is truly a complete sport, requiring strength, stamina, flexibility- you name it, the others I can think of are gymnastics and martial arts. All the strength, agility, and flexibility also helps me with my karate. You learn to push through pain and exhaustion, regardless of the cramps and lactic acid build up. Hopefully, can get back to swimming and karate after joining college and compete nationally, and if possible, internationally.
