    It used to be my weakest stroke now it's one of my favourite. I also think it's fundamental to improve both your resistance and butterfly tempo as the breastroke has some similarities to butterfly.

    Thanks for this, much appreciated. It's given me something to focus on. I'm a 60 yr-old masters swimmer and do 50m SC breaststroke in 36 secs. My problem is that I had a long break from swimming and having only recently returned to competition. Having changed my kick to the modern style, I keep pulling my adductors. What are the best exercises to strengthen these and also to warm them up?

So that I will know at what point I have to start kicking a.. folding knees b..shaping my foot like a frog c.. the actual kick and bringing my legs together again. I just picked up swimming recently and all I've done so far to improve my breast stroke is take a look at the guys in the other lanes who are clearly training for competition and try to mimic their movements and tempo. I was oblivious to concepts such as streamline and although I actually picked up on it yesterday watching the other guys, I had no idea why they were doing it. It's nice to have a video explaining every part of the stroke in such detail. I also try to listen to what their coach is telling them while I do my thing, I'm basically pimping them by having lessons without paying 😂

    I always say there are 2 parts
    Part 1- Pull/ Breathe
    Part 2- kick/glide
    Stressing narrow kick-
    Keep fingers slightly spread apart
    Try to keep head basically face down and let the pull bring mouth above the water--

    60yo Male - I'm in the process of working towards my PFI Freediving Instructor certification. One of the requirements is performing a 400m swim in 10 minutes or less. My problem is I'm a self taught swimmer, and the only stroke I can perform for longer periods is the breast stroke. I am struggling with being fast enough in meeting that pool skill (I've performed all my other watermanship skills with no issues). I'm not sure if the breast stroke is even the one I should be doing but my body type isn't a swimmers body (Barrel chest more muscular type build). I'm not able to do a crawl stroke without being out of breath much past 50m. Any suggestions?

    I don't know if there is anything for this, however I've been searching and not found anything.
    Do you have any advice on adapting the kick to take pressure on the inside of the knee? When I was younger breaststroke was my specialist stroke, however I stopped training quite a few years back and only just started training again. In the meantime I tore my mcl and now when I try and swim breaststroke I get horrendous pain in that area.

    Great video, clear and simple! I have one question. Most swimmers seem to raise out of the water quite high, almost below nipple height. Whereas I feel that I am best just below shoulder height. Is there any right / wrong for this?

      Arin Modi I’m probably not qualified for advice, but my coaches say that if your rhythm feels off, you can do some separation drill, then try to swim breaststroke again. Afterwords, your body will try to remember what it was doing before. That’s just my two cents; if your having trouble, you should bing watch breaststroke videos.

    Any tips on doing the kick? My issue is overall coordination but mostly I feel I’m not moving at all in the water. If I stall in the middle of the pool I can’t get any speed with the kick. I think I have the movement down, am I right to assume/try to ‘whip’ my legs back around and that creates the propulsion?

    • @isabelleg9118
      @isabelleg9118 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find that it is the snapping the legs together that creates the propulsion because at that point you are fully extended and ready to glide.

  • @unsexyman

    Do you whip kick before or after you have your arms stretched out? Some people do it at the same time. This part always confuse me.

    • @fksebati
      @fksebati 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is a great question and really depends on a few things. Mostly how strong your kick and pull is and also these factors relative to how good your body position is (how high you are in the water). You should aim to have your hands shoot forward BEFORE your kick is complete so that the most propulsive part of the kick drives your body forward when your hands are in streamline or at least close to it.

    • @unsexyman

    • @FaresKsebati
      @FaresKsebati  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Irene, great question! You don't want to add kicks - you want to take full strokes. While Fares used the numbers 5,4,3,2, you can use totally different numbers: for instance, it might take you 15 strokes of breaststroke to get to the other side, which is completely fine! But then, you want to stretch out your stroke and try to take less strokes the next rep, therefore maximizing your efficiency and your distance per stroke. Hope this helps!

    A technical point: you mentioned that during the "shooting" of your arms forwards you encounter resistance (force over "area") so you said, do this fast to minimize it. Well from pure physics I would say that the fastest you do it the more force you requires or more resistance you encounter. So from that do that "slowly" Of course this will not work " we all know this" but it is the shortening of that time to accomplish a good stream line that give you the benefit. Your thoughts. I am a physicist)

    • @FaresKsebati
      @FaresKsebati  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! This is definitely the slowest part of the stroke, but you want to get to that extended streamline position as quickly as possible, because that outstretch minimizes drag - not the motion that it takes to get into that position. Hope that makes sense :)
