Ahh Butterfly. The stroke that requires PASSION. I've been training it the past 2 months and it's really getting me into great physical shape. It's so challenging but I love it. Thanks for a great video
I had an accident when I was child and was always scared of water, this channel motivated me to start learning, thanks to your videos I have improved very much in short time, never is too late, I am 44 and I am currently reaching one of my dreams: Swimming! Thank you very much, you make my journey easier :-)
I just love love love doing fly it was my dream stroke when didn't know it I have learnt swimming it by myself and to master it, i come here You are the best coach i have met...
Butterfly was my best stroke competing in swim meets back in the day. Now that I am older I lost the technique, thank you for the video, very helpful for me.
That's the 200 IM for me. The second I finish a race I swear that I'll never swim it again, but 20 minutes later I'm thinking about how I'll improve for the next meet.
I really benefit a lot from your whiteboard lectures. They are so helpful, especially this one since I was never really instructed to do the butterfly. Before watching your video, when I tried it in the water, it was just awkward and I ended up kicking and splashing to the end of the pool. I needed to learn how to do it gracefully. This video helps a lot. I'll try it during my next training session in the pool. Thank you, Fares!
This video was really helpful. I learned butterfly when I was swimming competitively, about 30 years ago. I recently started swimming again at the local pool, and someone made a comment on my technique. This video showed me how outdated my technique really is, and how I can improve. Thank you very much.
When you swim your either a breathstroker or a butterflyer, I usually was a breathstroker but my coach gave me the 100 meters fly so I need to get better at fly now. Your video helped me SO much. Thanks :D😅
This channel has helped me so much in my swimming journey. I have started training for butterfly & here I am again, looking for tips!!! Thanks for all you do :)
I really enjoy your channel not only because of it's incredible amount of good quality information but also because because your pronunciation is very clear and well articulated. Despite you sometimes speak very quickly, I can understand all the speech. It's wonderful for non native English speakers like me.
As someone who was highly competitive in the '90s and just getting back into it now, I felt called out by the S-pull comment. 😂 Seriously though, thank you so much for your videos. They are super clear and really helping me make much-needed updates to my technique!
I used to go to competitions in the same era, early 90's. The S-pull caught me as well, I've learned that way and it is hard to lose it. If I "turn off the brain" a little bit, I'll start doing it!
I've always been scared to attempt the butterfly. I always end up turning it into a half-hearted breaststroke. But since building up strength with open water freestyle, when I get into the pool for the autumn/winter for sure I'm going to start training Fly! Great video.
3.45 Water is 800 time denser than air, but water is not 800 times more resistant than air. Water resistance is not a constant. Resistance is a function of velocity as well as fluid density. The greater the speed the greater the resistance, which is why falling from a great height into water can be as deadly as falling onto concrete. In terms of swimming, the water resistance is also a function of how much of the body's surface is submerged in the water. For example the overall water resistance will be different at different moments in a stroke. The more of the body that is out of the water the less resistance, because there is less friction and drag. Even when fully submerged, the more aquadynamic a shape, the less resistance it experiences. For example a torpedo or a seal or an otter will experience less resistance moving through water than say an armchair or a bicycle or a tree.
Love butterfly soooo much! 50 fly is currently my thing, but im working on the 100 fly. I just added five seconds in my 100 fly today, because the pool was really slow :(
I love butterfly!! And you're probably thinking, this guy is either crazy or lying!! But my personal opinion is butterfly should be the foundation of any swim training program. This could be wrong but for me if you can learn to enjoy butterfly and train it regularly, it seems to up your endurance and technique in all the other strokes.
Just discovered this channel. Very helpful video. I used to swim in my school days, local competions, etc. I've returned last year. Funny part is that when he mentioned the S motion on the pull phase.. a thing of older videos.. lol I'm old then... I learned to swim this way and it is VERY HARD to lose this conditioning.
Hi, sorry I haven’t watched the vids recently. I have 200 butterfly today so I will need this video. I just want to say thank you so much for your videos. I transformed from a slow swimmer, to a very fast one, and I will always be grateful for your effort.
This was a great video! It explained everything amazingly! I have a question however, for breathing, do you need to take a breath every stroke? Or can I do one breath,no breath, breath again? If not,how will it affect the stroke?
Hi there! The best way to swim fast to make sure you don't break your body line and try to eliminate drag. In the case of butterfly, that usually means trying not to breathe every stroke! Pros like Michael Phelps can get away with breathing every stroke, but for most swimmers, it's more efficient to breathe every other stroke :)
i like entering the water with my forehead first, instead of my chin, not for the waving effect, but to rise the legs. it looks that your technique is different.
This is gonna help me a lot i just had junior olympics this weekend and added 5 seconds in 100 long course meter butterfly in finals after I was dropping in everything I can't wait to try this in the water especially since I'm gonna be moving up a age group in a little
Great video. After the 6 month layoff I’ve decided that butterfly is a big part of my comeback. I lost a ton of upper body and core strength. I’ll know I’m back when I can do a 200M Fly.
While i was 7 years old my 50 was 1 minute and 12 seconds but now I'm 12 and after using your techniques i went from 1 minute and 12 seconds to 38 seconds in 4 years
Hmm, the kicks are not the same size, and you actually show this in your animations, and as you swim. The difference is with the breathing kick. You can not engage your core totally since you are inhaling. The breathing kick has higher amplitude with the heels usually coming out of the water, again, look at your animations. As for the chest not moving up and down much, I was blown away by a video of Michael Phelps, there is an excellent one on You Tube about how he trained for it. His arms are extended in front a bit under the water, and his chest is maybe 18 inches under the surface. Yes, I know we are not all like Mike, but I do think there is some thing to be learned from that.
I swim freestyle a lot and fast, but never mastered butterfly. This helped a bit, I am close to getting it nailed. Only issue is breathing part, many times I breath in some water, especially if there are some waves, while swimming freestyle, waves do not bother me at all, even big ones. Any advice how to breath in not to get water in lungs :)
i think there is not much that can be done there, if ur for example not swimming in a pool where waves can happen. I know what u mean. With freely we are more flexible i guess with our movements hence breathing, where with butterfly u have to keep a constant movement.
@@anesethemi5054 somehow during freestyle, I quickly get air out and in, angle is different too.I think I am splashing water or something during butterfly, since my head is even higher, but I drink too much water. More practice I guess :)

Butter fly is all fun and games until you’re running low on energy and you’re only half way done.
50 is my limit. Once my coach had everyone do 100. That should be illegal.
