    Nice job trying something new. Great idea to mark where the water was getting through before, to see the progression. And also a nice idea to keep applying as it gets a few feet higher at a time.

    Great update. We just got our 10 pails in last week and will apply it soon....bought the Wizz electric spreader to apply it!! We also are going to put down bentonite on the surface at the same time so the Damit grabs it and takes it to the bottom. We guttered some of our buildings and pipe that rainwater to our pond....maybe that's something you can do as well to keep the pond full.

      Make sure you wear clothes you are ok ruining and if you can avoid it do not get any of the product that is on you wet. It is much easier to dust it off when it’s dry. Once it gets wet you need a pressure washer to get it off your clothes

    Watching this makes me thankful for our clay....I made a 60x140 skating rink 1' deep, with an overflow drain at one end. Put a plug in the drain in the fall, take it out in the spring.Never lose any water with the clay. Pond is the same thing. Dug a 20' hole 1/2 acre size and it just stays full. Thanks for sharing about this product though in case I ever do have problems!

    Great explanation of the polymer sealer. I have a green light from my better half to go ahead with my pond project this summer. I plan to plumb in some drains from our house and garage roofs to supplement the natural wetness of the area the pond will be in. Trying to work with Mother Nature as she has kicked my butt more than one time on this property!!😂👍🏼☔️🌊

    I ve been going through basically the same thing, the main difference between our ponds mine is on top of rock. It’s hard to stop the water flow on top of rock through the damn. I believe I’m gonna have to get a truck load of bentonite and mix it in if I have to do another core on the the back side! Good luck with yours 🙏🏻

    I had a similar issue with less than desirable clay(sandy mix clay). The "DAMIT" pond sealer product was not successful until I paired it with natural clay. I applied the polymer with a seed spreader and immediately scattered "Special Kitty" cat litter on top of the polymer. Bentonite clay not available in my area and too expensive to order so natural clay cat litter was my roll. The cat litter was $5 a bag and even though some suggest clumping litter the non clumping worked perfectly, leak was sealed by next morning.
    Just my 2 cents friend

    Adam
    just a suggestion
    if you got a truck load of clay you could spread a 3 to 4 " layer on the exposed bank of the pond
    so as the water rises you will be less likely to create new leak paths
    just the face of the south side dam.
    even 2" compacted with a roller or tamp might be enough
    i think it will help
    and you wont have to chase leaks with the product

    will this work on Florida sugar sand? I have a small escavation I made to elevate a driveway I want to turn into a pond in central florida, only about 10x10x5, but it's soft white sugar sand. I don't want to install a rubber or fiberglass plastic. Was thinking of just mixing in some portland and then painting it with rubber sealer.

    If you care about eventually retrieving your measuring stick, you should tether a float on it so you can find it after the water level is high.

    What soil composition do you have? I have sandy loam for about 17ft them clay but can't really dig that deep. I do have 6000lbs of sodium bentonite and 12 yards of clay to start a 50x100 foot pond but planning on hauling 100 yards of clay minimum. I have seen a different product similar to this polymer you used but they told me my soil would not benefit from the use as I have way to much sand.

      Make sure to get the powder off of you before you get it wet. Once it gets wet you need a pressure washer to get it off. When it’s dry you can just brush it off

    Just curious why the pond builder isn’t taking care of this problem. Obviously there is a compaction problem or poor soil quality when it was built.

    • @nickmastroianni5557
      @nickmastroianni5557 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. I think the pond builder mixed in too much top soil or organic material or sand in lieu of clay soil. This should never happen if the pond is properly built. Only clay soil should be used. Watched a lot of pond builds by Chris on letsdig18. He is very careful about that.

    In fairness to the reality of how the product does/doesn’t work, you need to remind why it’s needed in the first place (failure to properly compact the soil).

    • @OneEyeCustoms
      @OneEyeCustoms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beating a dead horse will not bring it back to life. I’m pretty sure he is aware it is due to compaction and the rocky soil. All that is past now and this is a possible solution to the pond builders lack of knowledge of pond compaction.
