I'm wondering why it isn't recommended for small ornamental ponds. I just finished digging a small garden pond which I am hoping will attract frogs, & other critters. It's been dry and looks like it will be dry for some time and I was thinking why not dust the newly dug pond with the product and mist it with water afterwards and then fill the pond. Wouldn't that form the sealing net as long as I kept it hydrated while carefully filling?

we used to sell Damit in a 5ltr size but have recently discontinued as we were finding many people using in small fish and ornamental ponds and many of those were concrete ponds or had liners. While some people reported success, some didn’t and gave us really bad feedback - even though we say the product isn’t designed for concrete or ponds with liners. We do have customers using Damit on small earthen ponds with success but you may find a liner is more suitable. The risk is by applying too much Damit shallow ponds will end up 'soupy' and small ponds often have fountains, aerators or water features and this is also a potential issue if operating in shallow water.
While Damit is not toxic it will expand significantly and in small ponds it can turn the bottom layer to jelly and impact plants and fish - in larger dams and lakes this is not generally a problem as there is a much larger volume of water.

@@shalexindustries thanks for your reply. Since the majority of the soil in my small pond is clay, perhaps I should use bentonite instead as I tend to stay away from all things plastic (liners) these days and prefer a natural bottom.

Once it binds to the soil, does it stay slimy?

Damit will initially appear very sticky and slimy so its best to stay out of the pond for a short time after application. Damit will percolate into the soil and also help to floc out suspended clay and silt particles and this results in a bottom layer that appears just as a normal 'muddy' bottom would. Most customers find there are no visible traces of Damit after the initial settling in period of 2-4 weeks.

Can I use damit to seal a septic tank?

Myra, definitely not - it would block your entire system. Damit is designed for use on earthen ponds only where it can freely percolate into the soil

    Is it permanent

I used this and it Did not work! Also show a while after the rain. Not a few days after.

If Damit is visible a while after application it sounds like it has not freely percolated into the soil and bound to clay and silt particles. Applying where a liner is present or by hand instead of a seed spreader can cause this but if you wanted to reach out to us via the 'contact us' page on our website we'd be happy to review your project and see if we can identify any issues which may be contributing to a poor result.

We like to swim in our pond. Will this eventually mix with the bottom or will it always be like a clear gel on the bottom?

We suggest you avoid disturbing the area for a week or so after application to let the polymer settle and fully activate. It will bind with clay and silt particles and normally stays anchored on the bottom so you will be fine to swim after that and after a month or so there is typically no signs of the polymer. It is important you apply with a seed spreader. Many reviews which refer to 'jelly lumps' or 'frog 'spawn' are from customers who have not applied correctly. Using a scoop or throwing from the banks will often lead to large amounts of 'free' polymer floating for extended period and remaining around the edges. Applying Damit with a seed spreader gives even coverage and as this wets out it sinks as a 'net or slime' which pulls all polymer to the bottom.
