Really wanted Deb to give her thoughts but she couldn't make it out that day. She could give a funny perspective of what she saw from the land when the wind picked up!! Thanks for watching!
We’re still working on our pond. It was an existing pond that had been neglected for years. We drained it and cleaned out lots of trash and a million lily pads. We were able to save all the fish and put them in another pond on our property. We had a terrible problem with muskrats damaging the pond walls which caused leaks. We’ve been wanting to try damit and appreciate you sharing your experience with it.
I stumbled onto your channel while researching pond construction info. Love your channel and became a subscriber. I’m building a pond in my remote WV mountain homestead. Your informative delivery method of to-the-point information is perfection. 👍
If you ever have to do it again, run a grid of tall stakes around the perimeter and run some rope across in the section you're working on. The other person could be changing rope tie points while the boat person spreads and pulls the boat across

@@PineyGroveHomestead Thank you! I appreciate the information. We also just use our phone, so this sounds perfect. See you on your next video. Have a wonderful day.
@@PineyGroveHomesteadwork to do as in? I can see if it was Spring fed with constant water flow, which u don't have and your investing Alot of time and materials $$$. I've been looking for land with a pond, I think I've found one, they say it's Spring fed, 😂😂 could be the seller
Will the material seal the gravel bedding around an outlet/overflow pipes? I didn’t build the project or I would’ve installed a clay dam around the pipes. Thanks in advance!
I can vouch for dammit. A pond was dropping 8" a day (no water flow entering). Dammit fixed it. I did several apllications starting at 1 ft deep. Applied to the water then added water to fill it. I did several applications around edge of pond as water level increased. Easier than using a boat or kayak. Cover your self and your hair. My hair swelled to 3 times its volume when i showered. It is ghost busters slime when it gets wet.
@@puravidacrmno. I applied dammit sealer at a rate of 5 gallons per 1600 sq ft of surface water area. Rather than spread over a full pond i started with 1 ft of water in the pond. Applied the dammit then filled the pond some and applied to the new area.i did not need a boat since i was doing the edges as the water lever rose. No clay was used or mentioned.
We had a pond built but it leaks and now is basically a very small 3or4ft deep and maybe 20ft around. It's sad AF. Bentonite is expensive as hell and I bet the damit stuff is expensive as hell too. We have a very clayey ground but the builder buried the trees that they cleared under the pond...
The price of the Damit is in the video but if you have decaying trees under your pond, that's probably not solvable without re-digging it. For your pond, I would suggest a liner as the cheapest solution. Thanks for watching.
I've just dug a pond and it's also loosing water. Do you think there is a case to be said that the pond needs time to seal by its self . Mine is in clay.
Honestly, I don't think so. Maybe if livestock got in there and packed the bottom for a couple of years. Here is what we found at the bottom of our pond: th-cam.com/video/AW0WQgrGVTk/w-d-xo.html
@PineyGroveHomestead Thanks for the message , I'll have a look at the video on my way home. I did the bucket test which held, and a test hole that held. My ground is 100% clay with 18" top soil at the top so all baffling
If anyone questions your mask and suit just tell them to go into their attic and spread insulation without the same equipment. The insulation is not toxic but you need this protection.
I think the clay is a MUCH better option. Very interested in trying this myself. Polymer is another word for microplastics and I would be very cautious about this knowing what we know now about PFAS and other microplastics and their effects on the reproductive system. It would be almost impossible to remove if it comes out that this polymer is dangerous.
Use Bentonite extended release Pellets TR30 ..you can spread them nice and eventually and clean with no slime or mess or fish destroyed even with fish in the water . They are much more controllable . Then spread a thin thin layer of #000 choker Sand and spread it evenly on top of the Bentonite....I'm just a dumb driller Though ;) and I've been trying to help people seal there lakes and ponds up . I know all the Tricks ;)
Looks and sounds like microplastic to me. And the fact that it swells makes it sound even more dangerous for biological systems (eg your blood stream, organs and so on). If it would be just hardened plastic your body could more easily get rid of it and it wouldn’t interfere much with your hormones and so on. As a rule of thumb I would say the softer a rubber or plastic is the worse for our bodies. It is difficult with these ponds. Clay and bentonit sounds like the most natural and ecological solution though as stated in your last video it is difficult to get a 100% water proof solution. Liner is the next option. Here EPDM is usually recommended for longest lasting and least amount of rubber softener although this also gets questionable once temperatures in the pool rise. Not quite sure what a safe water water temperature would be. Especially at the edges those blackish liners could probably get pretty warm. Maybe it helps if you cover them well with stones which would also help against UV lights. I was hoping you would go the full bentonite way 😢

1’ of clay at the bottom of a pond? How is that financially feasible?

😀😀😀😀😀
How long did the slime take to completely go away?
Most of it sinks immediately. It was all sunk down to the bottom in a couple days.
if your pond leaks, only thing that will stop it, line it. otherwise you are throwing all your money away
We're still working the problem!
